Quick question > Is the iPhone OS designed for multitasking?

For example in my previous Symbian phone, I can run the GPS in the background while typing an sms and have the gmail symbian app checking my mail as well, and I can switch between all 3 apps without closing either.

I can't figure out how to do that with my iPhone though. Like if I have fring running, and I want to go to check my Facebook, it seems like Fring closes and disconnects me from all my IM logins.

Also I need to just say that 1) the battery life is bad, and 2) the position of the speakers is too easy to totally block with one finger when holding the phone in landscape. Otherwise, loving my iPhone so far & no regrets for the price paid.
*
that is apple's policy tentatively (though it might be subjected to changes this upcoming OS 3.0 - again fueling speculations) of not allowing apps to run at the background.

however if your unit is jailbroken, may i suggest this or something relevant.

coincidentally, i'm also trying to provide another alternative to your earlier post because you were positive that's the end (quoting your statement "No issue." thereafter)

hence my post isn't necessarily targeted at you, but merely feeding him with more information.

Don't fret, bro. I read lots of your postings but can't say it's vice versa, due probably to the fact that I am relatively new to the forum. But if you do, you will know that I address issues, not personalities which by the way, is the right thing to do in any situation, not to mention a forum as wide reaching as this 'home stead' of ours.

In parting....a cat can be skinned in many ways but the best is to cause as little pain as possible. Have a good evening.

nahhh... i don't have to be nice aka cause as little pain as possible to anyone here to be honest. i'm pretty much a lifeless person and therefore spend most of my time here.

but i do like to help as much as i can (depending on the character/personality of that person - yes, that's right). i'm not being paid here and therefore i can be selective. hence using my discretion (it could be deviated of course), if i find a person worthy of my help, i will go all out. simple as that.

in parting... some cats deserve to be drowned afterall. you have a good evening too.

to all my sifu's out there...
wanted to ask cos i happen to come across this problem many times..every once in awhile my phone loses connection with the simcard and since i have a pin it gets locked. well now if im out somewhere and dont realise that it has happened i wont be able to rcv calls or sms as i need to put in the pin to unlock the sim.
i wanted to know whats causing this prob and what i can do to minimise it from happening if its unavoidable or if there is a fool proof way?
because i've frustrated quite a number of people with "not answering" my calls and sms.
thanks again!

try to "reset network settings" under general or "forget this network" under your wifi profile i.e. your home

I would recommend upgrading your firmware to 2.2.1. Follow the guide below. It's easy as long you follow the guide closely.

Not sure you have BossPrefs, select Fix User Dir Permission. That will fix the photo issues.

As for your mbp. If you're using the latest iTunes, iTunes may not be able to detect/read fw 1.1.4. You may need to downgrade your iTunes to ver 7.5 or lower i reckon.

Most of use are on the latest fw 2.2.1 or fw 2.2. There's more applications in Fw 2.0- 2.2.1 than Fw 1.1.4. For example:

1) Cydia has upgraded to Cydia 2 and offers lot's of free/purchase applications.

2) Installer 3 (Fw 1.1.4) has moved up to Installer 4 and has gotten worst and buggy.

3) Apps Store (Fw 2.0 - 2.2.1) offers tons and tons of applications for users.

So, upgrade firmware would be a wiser choice.

Cheers

I was actually holding on giving an answer as I wish to know of a better solution but since none of the sifus did, here's what you can do:

When the phone recovers its signal after there's no or weak reception, it locks its SIM just like after a reboot. Solution is to disable the SIM code request security function which means when the phone 'reboots', it will remain on and thus there won't be any missed calls. The downside is that you cannot lock your SIM which some may not like.

i would pray for the day there were apps created for Iphone in Appstore by local Malaysian developers.

Just like the days where we find local developers for PalmOS biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

Support buatan malaysia! thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

suggest software to be developed like:

1) best place to eat
2) wifi finder (for msia)
3) GSC or TGV for local cinemas (plus booking)
4) Bus timetable/LRT/ Kommuter timetable
5) News app to get news from local newspapers

what u guys think?
