Err... cool bro.
I'm not trying to be an ass or a bigoted fool. I was just being the devil's advocate by using the Picasso example. sweat.gif

But I really want to know how do I get from noob to instinctive training?
I certainly understand the the concept and the advantages of instinctive training. And I want to start doing it. But, err... how do I get about it? Or rather, how did you first started doing it?
It's simple, but that doesn't make it easy to jump into with no knowledge. =)

I don't have to balls to go heavy with my squats and deadlifts. Reason being the gym I go to isn't very complete, so no squat rack. I'm currently lifting the barbell for squats off the benchpress 'hook'. Hard enough to get it off and then move away from the bench to get into position, let alone add more weight. And I'm not going much heavier for deadlifts because I'm afraid of forsaking form to lift heavier, resulting in me injuring my back. shakehead.gif

There's always Smith machine squats.

Same here. I had to use the bench press.
I love free weights squats too much... maybe a little too much for my own good.

I'm only 16. =/ If I could go to a proper gym and afford the membership and all, heck, I would. I go to this gym cause it's in a clubhouse, which my family's members of and it's only a 3 minute walk from my house. So, it's definitely convenient.

Ok, that sucks. As bata said, for now the leg press is your best bed. Try to change gyms.

@darklight and bata: The leg press machine is broken for the time being. The cables got wrecked, as in they're off the pulleys and the only way to fix it is to open it up, probably by some idiots fooling around with it. I've complained to the management, so it'll be a while before they do anything. doh.gif

Defo, the overhead squats will do you a lot of good if you can do it well. You just nead to learn how to snatch (go to Malacca!)

I bet everything that could've gone wrong did, with Murphy.

Moving forward from dumbbells, what are the thoughts on Super-setting?

"What Is A Superset?
A superset is the alternating back and forth between two (or more) exercises until the prescribed number of sets is complete, usually with no rest between exercises. There are various types of supersets, however."1.

1. Sourced from Bodybuilding.com

Pros:
Save time?
Challenging?

Cons:
Slow progressions? in terms of poundage
Requires a lot of energy?
Requires a lot of concentration?

Aiyah, just shuddup and squat lah (which I believe you're still squatting despite Murphy's law =).
If your form is good, and you can manage to get the bar out safetly from the bench... just do it, until the mgmt finally repairs the machines.

Increase 1kg at a time lah. That's what I do. I also damn scared... what if I get stuck in the hole, what if I drop the weight, what if fall backwards like humpty-dumpty...
The gym takde 0.5kg plates? No problem, just tie a 500ml bottle of water on each side of the bar --> there, total 1kg increment. This is what I'm doing also. laugh.gif

hmm.gif
Oh yeah, you can replace squats with [Bulgarian] split squats, or the reverse lunges (dumbbells or barbell). Since these are single leg movements, you'll be using lesser weights <-- after all heavy weights with no safety is your major concern, right?

I think you better get a spotter to be safe.

Or maybe you can find a higher place to put the bar first. Might get sound from the people. laugh.gif

I probably will just continue squatting the way I am now, but going heavier will have to wait. blush.gif I've already included lunges in my workouts. I'll try out the Bulgarian split squats and see how they are.
