are u using vista? i think the problem is you have insufficient ram but i might be wrong though but most of the time stutters got something to do with memory or worst case would be your PSU

I'm using Windows XP. I've always been under the impression that in-game gameplay is more resource intensive than the intro scenes or cut scenes, which is why I've not been bothered too much since gameplay is fine. It's just annoying that intros or cut scenes don't play smoothly and I don't know why that happens.

maybe changing your OS to vista will solve the problem but i am just guessing laugh.gif ..does your HDD light blinks a lot during cut scenes? it can even be as simple as defragging your hard drive to solve the problem

nvidia ambient occlusion
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_ambientocclusion_home.html
hmmm, its noticeable for me in l4d and especially cod4, sometimes the soft shadows tend to make players glow in cod4, which is abit of exploit in the game i think.

Change to Vista? Uh, I'd prefer not to, based on some of the stories I've heard. laugh.gif

Anyway, it looks like it was just a vsync issue. After I turned on vsync it solved the problem.

Do video codecs impact on game performance? I though those are for video playback only. Anyway, I'm using CCCP for all my video codec needs.

disadvantages of vista is that during idle it uses alot memory compared to xp, but windows 7 have a fix for that now. anything else vista runs just fine for me.

If your card doesn't feed with enough power, your system will simply crash, either hard crash or crash to Windows. I don't know what you mean by 'wrong' power cable, its nearly impossible to connect a different cable since its keyed to fit one way

Overheat maybe but less likely, I guess its just eats too much memory by then

Well, not to say Vista is better. It is just that Vista is not as bad as some people claim to be. For me there is not much problem using Vista as gaming platform. In term of memory management, Windows 7 uses almost the same amount of RAM during idle with Vista... but application launching speed is faster and smoother in 7.
