and yes it's not DoTA (or similar to an FPS)

From that vid it feels like playing COH in futuristic settings.

if you check out the opinions on V5 you can see what we experience plying beta.....its faster than COH and doesnt make you build anything unlike COH. However you still have to tech up to get better units.
Overall if you like COH multiplyer then this is a good game for u.

It's more like,if you dont like base building and likes to be in the action asap,this is the game for you.

how long will the beta last??

I think lots of DOW players find lacking in DOW2 is that there are too much entrenchment and the map is too small. Players does not seem to be able to run around or have long range vehicle like basilisks. Instead of commanding an army they feel its just commanding a few squads as it was posted by bobo head in the previous thread.

I think till the end of february,before the game is released.

I think CoH player also find this game lacking because lack of supply line etc.I dont play a lot of CoH so,i dont know what is lacking for CoH players.

From a DoW player's point of view,DoW2 offers too little things compare to vanilla DoW.Im not comparing to any mods or any expansion that comes after DoW.The unit list seems smaller when you play,but i think the numbers are almost the same for each race.Also,fast attack units like Land Speeder is absent or long range units like Whirlwind are absent too.It is known that arty spam is annoying in CoH,so,i think removal of arty in DoW2 is a good move.Maps are smaller and it becomes a bit annoyance for DoW player as we are just used to big battles and large maps.It doesnt feel like controlling an army in DoW2 as you only get a handful of squads.Feels more like more like a small skirmish.

I notice most previous Relic games gamers cant really accept DoW2.It just remove too many things,rather than giving it new content.At the same time,doesnt feel like a new game.Just a combination of some of the features of CoH and DoW while some of the best are left out.

After reading an interview between Shacknews and Johnny Elbert,it feels like DoW2 is designed for those who dont like what makes a good,fun RTS in the first place.

This isnt what i want in DoW2.

Anyway,the patch is out.Might as well give it a try.

I went to my usual shop in 1U and they were selling the "pre-order collector kit".

Basically inside there is a dvd with some bonus (havent check on it yet, back in office), the tickets for the life-size space marines statue contest, one postcard with some Tyranids grahic on it. Nothing much (need to check the cd content first).

Need to do full payment when you get this, but at least I am sure to have my copy asap

Might as well get from TSB.I never like buying games from that shop,ori or pirate cause he tend to charge more for ori games.

I stay near Sg Buloh and i still go all the way to SS2 to get my ori games.I trust TSB more.

Sm statue contest ? Let's hope it doesn't require the winner to paint and snap on it by themselves

Yar, Games Corner, I have been there for a long time now and since I am working kinda in 1U (and live in BU) I felt lazy to go to SS2 to reach TSB (which I bought from before). From my experience the price difference isnt that big, at least no jam and no time wasted driving to SS2 since I just pass by the shop everyday

The statue is a LIFE-SIZE statue, cant imagine trying to fit that somewhere in your house (gf would go on a pure rampage )... or even transport it back... but you need to post the coupons to participe so it's kinda "meh"

As a COH player i tell u what its lacking..

-Retreat isnt a life saver.. sometimes is control suicide

-Tank armor regardless where it hit end up as rear hit..

-The lack of Arty based unit

-battlefield is too small even to COH standard..

don't want to participate the contest so I will just wait till it's over and buy

i dono the area as i have never been there b4, but it would be around tar college ^^ btw i have preorder dow2, have faith in the game

*Edit* Made a mistake on who I replied to, cause I was doing something while typing this up
- I think a good example is how TheNameX lost his bloody Alpha Rev that got trap by my entire army and couldnt get away even when he tried to retreat lol

-I think the tank thing is a big game bug, even the dev bullets make the rear hit pop up sometimes. Actualy almost all hard hitting weapons make it pop up lol.

-I agree, the lack of arty makes things very close combat (which I think is what they really want) however the maps aren't big enough to have them anywys.

-Maps, i hope get bigger as the game is on full release. FOr the momment I can't blame them for making maps small cause they want the game to be faster than COH and probably because of the "action" style of the gameplay. Sometimes in COH I didn't like lugging my infantry from my hq all the way back into the mid section again which cause me to choose my retreat action closely.(which is why I play Brits lol). But here you see people kinda spam retreat more often. Cause maps are smaller and units can get there quicker (except the for some nid units...sigh the hive tyrant is the worse case)

My personal opinion after playing it for awhile with everyone.....It's similar to COH but still different.

-Theres still pathing issues with some units (notable to nids)


-Then you have the GFWL with Steam thing is frustrating as hell. (you dc 1 thing you dc from evrything...) Little bit of instability in the game (with 5 other people) and theres a good chance GFWL commites suicide....(like what happen yesterday when we played the 3v3 with Waba, TheNameX and Heaven to note)

-Another problem that I found during mulitplay (especially with 3v3) is sometimes even with smooth local connections....the game has random delays..(Pressing the 'X' to restreat doesnt respond on time)

More or less thats what Ive experience and had to rage over sometimes during gameplay....(Your hive tyrant is dead....ARGHHH!!!!! B**** **** stupid slow piece of ***** )

For the record relic has really f***ed it up so many times for us DOW vet we lost counts.

Anyway a good thing to do with the beta is try to keep ur com in optimized condition. Defrag it, clean up and have plenty of extra hard disk space, run the beta in all low settings and have a non cluttered desktop. It helps.

Else,

If the problem is universal we will know soon from other sources.

Anyone finished downloading the update ??

I have finished the update, had 2 games with Darkfyre, currently Eldar and SM dominate the top 10, meet a few high rank player and lost.

Then GG my DoW2 copy. Downloading since 2pm and it's still need 2 hours to complete @@.

with the new req patch change I often find myself reaching the population cap limit very often...

At least I don't ahve to sit in the base and wait for reinforcements now with req patch

Seems like im floating a lot of reqs now.

The game feels more like vanilla DoW now.Good changes,IMO.

I just need to find somewhere with decent free wifi to try MP again.

Somebody didnt tell me about Dow2 Co op campaign

I am sold

Did someone told u that the Campaign only...and I mean ONLY Focuses on the Space Marines??

Which means there is no Eldar/Orks/Tyranids campaign

You should know one thing.

If you play co-op,you'll be sharing army with your host.Like the host have 5 squads.He control 3,you control 2.

Also,the campaign is very repitative.Start with a landing mission,kill some orks.Then,one more mission,kill more orks to stablised.After that,there is some sort of shield,kill some generators and orks.Lastly,boss fight.The briefing and stuff will have a nice cutscene or some nice fancy looking briefing.

This is what i heard from those who had a hands on in october.Not as bad as DC or SS campaign.They say it's quite a challenge if you play on Primach or Chapter Master difficulty which are the 2 hardest difficulty.

Eldar and Orks campaign are coming,by paid DLC.

I feel that Valve should do DoWII now....

Read my post again.I updated some stuff.

Still,get it if you like the MP,like what you have played so far.

The change of pace might be nice for me.

Why?I dont mind as Valve is rich.DoW2 will be so much polished compare to now. Valve is probably the second company that have the "When it's done" policy.Or something like it.

You'll get the DLC campaign when the expansion comes out.It's bundled in the expansion.Not like you'll never gonna pay it,unless you pay.

Is it just me or it happens to everyone here ?? Play 6 matches 1v1 rank battle today, I met 5 SMs and 1 nids, cant seems to smell the trace of orks anymore. In fact, I only met Imperium which are all noobs (because I won with no sweat, total map control and squad lost is 0) except the last r11 nids which is ok on level, at least still can give some fight. More noobs after patched @@ ??

I got more crash now thanks to the patch in 3v3

SM has always been newbie friendly race, the units are fimiliar and easier to recognize, so easier to get into the game, you can't blame it. tho I have meet a Rank30+ Ork and got crushed by him, it's good since i have learn something from him.

PC GAMER US just had the review of DaW 2.

*SPOILER ALERT*









































86% out of 100%.

It rules with : Great graphics and animation, fast paced tactical gameplay, co-op campaign mode.
It sucks with : Repetitive mission, no tutorials for Ork, Eldar and Tyranid. Certain game element are not explained well


OVERALL: A tactical game which skip the base-building part and jump straight into the action packed, well, action gameplay.

You can join us now why ?? If you have problem downloading the beta and provided you stay in KL, you can take the beta from us. Many of us do that over here.

If you want a game on DoW, you can play with me. You still can play with me even you are on DC (I think), just make sure you are updated to the latest patch.

Sorry,my 2009 resolution : Buy Ori or dont play.

Not point pirating Steam or new Securom cause they dont really work in pirated copy.Especially Steam.

i dont think DoW2 retail is running under steam, more likely LIVE.

DoW2 is running Steam.Check my post in the last few pages of the last V.

Steam and GFWL.

i mean the retail woh~ not the game from steam.
i do know if u buy from steam then it will be under steam + LIVE.
eg: fallout 3 in steam = steam + LIVE
eg: retail fallout 3 = LIVE onli

I think the interview mentioned that it will include Steam in retail as it will be easier for them to patch,for us to redownload etc.

It's a good DRM too.I dont see why they dont want.

I think almost all reviews hate the campaign.

Guess we only got MP.A rather shallow MP.

Donno why the tryanids units cant upgrade for basic melee and range units. Only when you go tier 2 or tier 3 then have upgrades for the units.

So far only tried humans, orks and tryanids. Dont really like the elder.

Kay Bee is a slowpoke town, everything avilable in KL will only be availabled here a week or 2 later. I want to see the IG!

I wouldn't call the MP shallow, but more tactical in some ways than DoW, though seeing how you perform in DoW...
