Frankly, I found the game experience to be quite entertaining but rather repetitive over time.
Naturally, graphics wise it has to be attractive else someone call Inquisitor to check out what Relic is doing.
The only thing that really upsets me after getting my hands on the pre-order today is that of THQ engaging Steam into their game.
Takes forever to update, sometimes doesn't update, requires restart. And all that blasphemy.
And the other thing that irritates me greatly is Games for Windows Live.
I miss the old Dawn of War. Hassle free. Just install, and play SP and MP.
Sigh.
And they wonder why people would rather download a pirated copy.
Game is alright, but all these 3rd party heebusjeebus is definitely a huge turn-off.
If the Emperor knew about this, the Golden Throne would've melted and Horus would have resurrected and grew wings.

I hate both. @@
Gosh, those 2 3rd party programs are really ruining the experience.
Especially Steam. Steam is not an option for you to choose.
At least GfWL you still can choose an offline profile if you just plan to play the game for the fun of it instead of achieving any achievements.
Which, is my case now. Playing for storyline and eye candy.
Quite literally potong-steam when I found out it requires Steam.

Look on the bright side, you maybe lucky enough like me, took only 20 minutes to update Steam and 15 minutes for updating the game.
Set the game to not update itself but Steam just ignored that and carried on.
Bloody he-*...

Strange. For me, I inserted my disc, it installed Steam. Then the Updating Steam window came up. Waited for like 1 hr, restarted, downloaded my own Steam installer from Steam Store, then installed. This time, the updating took 20-30 minutes (at least it was bloody moving instead of being at 0% all the time). When done, inserted my CD-Key, then the game installed from the disc in 10 minutes.
Waited a while for the game to update itself (approximately 12 minutes on my rig), then voila! Play the game.
Never encountered having to download the game.
Got your copy from TSB? Or elsewhere?

Guys, if you read my earlier post, you could try this way. It worked for me after I was frustrated due to waiting. But no guarantees. If it's stuck at 'Updating 0% Complete', cancel it and uninstall Steam from your machine then restart. Now go to Steam Store and download their installer from them. Install Steam again and the update should start running. (Check your Windows Firewall if you're running Vista. Sometimes the Firewall block the program. Add Steam.exe and Steam_service.exe to the programs to be allowed. That's what I did after installing.) As for the patch download which frequently disconnects, I set my download region to U.S. - Northwest. My download for the patch was running at 180kb/s. And my location is P.J., Bandar Utama. I don't know if this will help but for those who are still suffering, you could give it a try? This post has been edited by victor_code47: Feb 21 2009, 03:07 PM

I guess it's for the updating part. As for slow login screen. I used the task manager, shut it down, then switched it on again, then it was fine.

I had that just now. Then I forced Steam to shut down, and switched it back on, then all was alright again. Scanned quite fast.

QUOTE(toothgnasher @ Feb 21 2009, 09:16 PM) I receive error 183 very frequently when getting into missions. anyone face the same problem? I hear you brother. You're not the only one. Every 2 missions after I complete the 2nd mission, at the Orbital Command view, or when the game is loading for the 3rd mission, I get that error. Without fail. Orbital Command or 3 mission after that.

QUOTE(khyron @ Feb 21 2009, 09:29 PM) Mine is worse keep staying at 0% during updating. I guess, you gotta keep trying by aborting and restarting using different regions? So far, for me, i've maintained my region to US - Northwest and the speed is awesome with no disruptions. Strangely. >_>

QUOTE(Crazegamer @ Feb 21 2009, 10:29 PM) How do you change the region? The moment I start steam, it straightaway starts updating... BTW, does anyone know what port Steam uses? Cheese....I think most of us have problems with GFWL or Steam. Hopefully everything else will be smooth sailing after getting over all these nonsense... As mentioned before, for your case, you've to download the client off their website, install it. First installation I did, was using the disc client. Then it took 1 hour with nothing running. So I aborted uninstalled, restarted and then downloaded and installed the client I downloaded off Steam Store. The moment the Updating Steam thingy appeared, the updating took around 20 minutes. I was quite suprised. Maybe it was luck, apparently seeing how so many PJ area people are complaining about Streamyx. Not that I am a great fan of Streamyx, but I am getting 160kb/s on average for almost everything.

I'm on Vista. And honestly, I too was duped. I thought it was to be a normal installation. T__T And strangely my only error which is the 183 thingy, has been only appearing today. Did not get it when I was playing it yesterday. D: D: This post has been edited by victor_code47: Feb 21 2009, 11:39 PM

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I'm stuck at the damned Avatar mission.
Wanted to get the Terminator Armor. But by Khaine's Blood! The Avatar's health keeps replenishing. Very FAST too!
Any suggestions? Plasma doesn't seem to affect it that much as stated. This post has been edited by victor_code47: Feb 22 2009, 06:32 PM

Sorry T__T Forgot. Added on February 22, 2009, 6:33 pmQUOTE(Gormaz @ Feb 22 2009, 04:38 PM) That mission was a pain in the ass yar. He is super strong and he keep calling reinforcements including a prism and a wraithlord. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Personally I kinda "cheesed" it by standing on the upper echelon of the ampitheater. Basically from the bottom of the "arena" where he is standing to the outside there are two level of stairs. He will not go out further than the first bottom level (I think to avoid you kiting him around the map since he is kinda slow). If you stand just at the top of the first level of stairs you can fire on him, he will come to you but go back to the middle as soon as he reaches the top of the first level of stairs, then come back to you, middle etc. It's "weak" method and I wasnt so happy about it but that damn thing is just really too powerfu (and I wanted the terminator amourĀ ). Actually him alone would have been very tough but still doable I think, but him + seer council + fire prism + wraithlord + the banshees/guardians adds it's just too much. You still have to be very careful of his abilities though, and you still have to deal with the adds. Imo some of the bosses are just a bit too hard because mainly of the adds. And yar, I tried the mission both with a missile launcher and a plama cannon and I did not really see a difference. Edit: Put spoiler tags, sorry >_< » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Ok. I tried doing that. Haha, tiring, but works, although it takes a really really long time. And his ranged fire attacks always takes out either the entire squad or some. T__T Plasma Cannon and Missile Launcher like antbite to the Avatar nia. Added on February 22, 2009, 6:42 pmSlow download for goodies from THQ? Odd, it took me around 10 minutes. Ok, not really fast, but fortunately not hours too. Spolier for storyline and universe discussion: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I wonder what secrets were there that made Captain Davian Thule so burdened. My theory would be that 'The Unknown Primarch' is one of the 'Chapter Records Expunged' Chapters in the Space Marines records (or from the artbook Index Astartes - pricey artbook). And that after Thule read it, he was burdened because Primarch Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists mentioned before to one of the other Primarchs or was it Malcador the Sigillite, that he wondered what did his other 2 brothers did that they deserve such punishment.
So perhaps The Blood Raven's Primarch committed an act that they thought was the best for The Imperium and the Emperor, but the Emperor couldn't forgive him/her for that. (Similiar to The Thousand Sons case perhaps? When Magnus tried to warn the Emperor of Horus' Betrayal by using a Warp based message.)
Gabriel Angelos of the 5th Company told the Force Commander that the Secrets of Cyrene will die with him. Maybe both facts are linked together? That there were records of similiar magnitude, held by a few of the governors of Cyrene who plotted against the Emperor himself (taken from Loading Screen) and when Gabriel found out, he ordered the Exterminatus himself (as mentioned in Dawn of War). This too can be linked to also the fact that Governor Vandis of Meridian was hoarding Blood Raven's Chapter artifacts and relics and perhaps was in league or plotting on his own against the Blood Ravens and the Imperium. This probably has some connection with the records on Kronus. Thus Gabriel and Thule have a burden in common.
Though Governor Vandis was probably under the influence of the Eldar because they wanted to save Craftworld Ulthwe. But there is a possibility there, no? There is also a possibility that perhaps certain factions and individtuals in the Inquisition knows of what actually transpired and are actually trying to sabotage the Blood Ravens Chapter by planting Chapter Records in the Governor's Secret Store (the Governor could be an Inquisitor agent). Best example of Inquisition sabotage in Space Marine Chapters : Celestial Lions Chapter in the 2nd War of Armageddon. Gave them bad intel and caused the chapter to suffer greatly. Or perhaps the Inquisition fears that the Blood Ravens may turn into a Thousand Sons chapter due to their high amount of Psykers/Librarians, thus giving them all the more reason to sabotage the chapter. Last but not least, the Battlebarge Omnis Arcanum (All Secret), fortress-monastery of the Blood Ravens have plenty of information and data. Perhaps there are information that damns certain elements of the Inquisition to cause them to worry and fear that the secret might be revealed.
There is also the possibility of the Cabal (mentioned in the novel The Horus Heresy : Legion) trying to help alter the course of the universe to save it from Chaos. Either by manipulating the Blood Ravens like they did with Alpharius/Omegon of the Alpha Legion, or by purposefully exposing them to so much danger that their chapter will be extinct. Probably for fear that Chaos might use the Blood Ravens chapter as a gateway?
Same theory goes for the Eldar.
Naturally, not forgetting the Deceiver. He could be behind all this. Just for fun like he always did.
Now, what remains is that perhaps all those documents contain information that tells of their Primarch and the history of the Chapter.
Seeing that Thule is slightly confused and traumatized due to his transfer from flesh to Dreadnought, perhaps somethings we'll never know.
Kudos to Games Workshop for fueling so many possibilities. That's the reason why I fell in love W40K universe in the first place. =D
Now, comments and discussions anyone? =D
A little too many theories here for gamers. Sorry, but I can't help it. I'm a Warhammer 40,000 loremaster addict. So since this is a DoW thread. Thought i'd spread a little of the love. Hope Waba doesn't mind. This post has been edited by victor_code47: Feb 22 2009, 10:07 PM
