the 8mm model (8.8mm actually) is at display, on the concourse level at the old wing...the roadshow outside the old wing showcase normal panny TVs only...its being showcased as a prototype model...tho the sales person claim its available in Japan liao...but dunno whether they will bring to M'sia market cos they estimate the price to be in the region of RM80K or so...

2009 series has got about 23 models...only 2-3 models were at the display, that's what i meant...one 50in & 42 in HD ready model, then 2-3 LCD tv models...sorry, i was only looking forward to the full HD PY850 replacement, so the rest didn interest me...

it seems V series is the replacement model for the PY850...on panny m'sia website, it says coming soon...along with the Z & G series...but i think its definitely worth the wait..

i heard from the sales person of panasonic, the currently available new models, (HD ready models) are made in S'pore..and they came off S'pore...but full HD models maybe coming from Japan...that's why the launch is longer..but that being said, even in the US, they are expecting the release to be in June or July (summer)...so guys, pls be patient.

btw, PY850 & all current HDTVs by panny no longer released already...unless its old stock kept by distributors...

pricing on the new full HD models is also available on the net liao...the 50in V series shud be in the region of RM13k-RM15k...similar to the current PY850 models...fair i guess...with all added features...

Panasonic knows their main revenue is from the HD Ready models as it is the only ones with reasonable pricing. I don't think they will be concentrating on their Full HD models. Even the PY850, I bet only a handful few were sold in Malaysia.

Nowadays, plasma manufacturers know, its volume as opposed to quality that will make them survive. They all can see how Pioneer went "bust". At the end of the day, they realise, they are running a business.

Panasonic I bet realise that Malaysians are far more concerned about pricing as opposed to pixels and quality.

All this 8.8mm and 150 inch plasma all don't even bother, people are not interested in spending that amount of money.

Today I got back from the Panasonic roadshow. The 8.8mm plasma was incredible. Its super slim, the color and black level is awesome and the viewing angle is very good. But if it release in Malaysia at RM80K, it will be too pricey for alot of people.

The new X model, has double the contrast againts the PV80 series. From 15,000 to 30,000. The new model seems to be brighter as well, I thought I was looking at the LCD model sometimes.....

But the new x model, I'm not that fond of their color, its seems washed out. Hopefully if calibrated it will not look like that.

I'm Waiting for their full HD model to release.... biggrin.gif

I think you will probably be waiting for some time. No one makes plasma at 42in with 1366X768. There are only a handful of PDP manufacturers at the moment. The screen size is based on yields and margins. They cannot make a 42in 1366X768 plasma display with good yields thats why at that size it is either 1024X768 or 1920X1080. If the 1366X768 is what u need , then i suggest u either get a 50in plasma or a LCD that has that resolution.

the price is my own estimation, cos in US, the RSP is around RM12K after conversion to RM...and previously, the PY850 listed at RM13,999 or something like that, so i feel, the PY850 replacement, which is the V series, shud also be priced similarly...

In an economic downturn, it would be fun to see who will buy a RM13K TV. Gone are those days where people will spend RM10K on a TV. Its like now, nobody buy RM10K notebooks. But once upon a time, people used to buy RM10K notebooks. A few manufacturers come out with RM8K notebooks but nobody buys cause everybody knows, you can get a good notebook for RM2K to RM3K

Other than a few TV and HD Enthusiast, the mass buyers will never spend more than RM5K or RM6K. And panasonic Malaysia should know, only with mass buying can you have economies of scale and margin.

It would be a joke to try to sell a RM13K TV in the current economic climate. Even BMW and Mercedes are seeing really slow sales!
