it is safe, but won't provide you the visual satisfaction blush.gif
err.. what do you mean by safe? u afraid that the china product will blow out of the sudden?
*
actually, my neighbour told me his experience once...it was a <1yrs old 'H' brand LCD from Cina...he was watching Astro on it on one fine sunday morning when he tot he could relax...when suddenly boommm!!! the TV actually exploded...even his TV bench was charred a little...he called the company/manufacturer...and without asking too much questions they sent a tech to replace some component and the TV works again...it seems like the tech knows what was wrong immediately, as if it's happened many times before cos the tech was very cool in telling my neighbour its nothing serious and nothing to worry about...

after the repair, he keeps the tv in a box and got himself a new japanese brand lcd.. tongue.gif

(...From The Star...)
Panasonic to unveil giant plasma TV
By RACHAEL KAM

PANASONIC Malaysia Sdn Bhd plans to launch the world’s largest plasma television (TV), at 150 inches, in Malaysia next week at its Panasonic Revolution 09 Roadshow.
dun think they will unveil the latest 2009 series of HD TV's there right?? i think the promo will be their last push to sell off the 07/08 TVs....damnn...just when i'm bout to buy the PY850...now got new series pulak...if June is when the new Panny plasmas will be here..then dun mind waiting...newer gen TV always better than older right??

btw, there's only a few models of Panny Plasma TVs in Malaysia...the 09 guide lists a lot of different series, u reckon all of those series will be available here in Malaysia? or just like now, they'll only have a few series to offer poor malaysians?

Yep, should be at the pana road show in KL.
*
i just came from the roadshow...no, the 2009 series are not available at the roadshow..only 2-3 new models, all HD ready models, including one 50in, 42in & a Full HD 37in LCD...and of course the 150" and 50" 8.8mm slim prototype..

apparently the 2009 series will only be available in few months time...may, june, july...

btw, no pricing available on any of the display models oso..i think they really rush this roadshow and the main purpose is actually to display the world's 1st and out of 6 150" plasma...

No 8 mm at all. And none of the staff knew abt it. I guess it is too pricey for the msian market
*
the 8mm model (8.8mm actually) is at display, on the concourse level at the old wing...the roadshow outside the old wing showcase normal panny TVs only...its being showcased as a prototype model...tho the sales person claim its available in Japan liao...but dunno whether they will bring to M'sia market cos they estimate the price to be in the region of RM80K or so...

2009 series has got about 23 models...only 2-3 models were at the display, that's what i meant...one 50in & 42 in HD ready model, then 2-3 LCD tv models...sorry, i was only looking forward to the full HD PY850 replacement, so the rest didn interest me...

it seems V series is the replacement model for the PY850...on panny m'sia website, it says coming soon...along with the Z & G series...but i think its definitely worth the wait..

i heard from the sales person of panasonic, the currently available new models, (HD ready models) are made in S'pore..and they came off S'pore...but full HD models maybe coming from Japan...that's why the launch is longer..but that being said, even in the US, they are expecting the release to be in June or July (summer)...so guys, pls be patient.

btw, PY850 & all current HDTVs by panny no longer released already...unless its old stock kept by distributors...

pricing on the new full HD models is also available on the net liao...the 50in V series shud be in the region of RM13k-RM15k...similar to the current PY850 models...fair i guess...with all added features...

which panny website? not the local panasonic website i dont see any V series - only x, s, and g
and rm13 to rm15k - is this a USD price converted to RM (again did you see this at local panasonic site?)
*
the price is my own estimation, cos in US, the RSP is around RM12K after conversion to RM...and previously, the PY850 listed at RM13,999 or something like that, so i feel, the PY850 replacement, which is the V series, shud also be priced similarly...

That is exactly why samsung is the leader in LCD TV with Sony in 2nd and LG in 3rd place....and where is pana? sweat.gif

Don't get me wrong...i'm not saying that pana is making bad TV.  Just saying that they don't really innovates...

this is from the The Star Business today:

PETALING JAYA: Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which yesterday introduced three series of Viera plasma and liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions, expects to maintain its dominant position in the domestic flat TV segment.

Managing director Tony Endoh said Panasonic had experienced steady growth in the segment over the past two years and expected this to continue despite the economic turmoil.

For the larger screen size of 50-inch and above, Viera has captured the top position with 43% market share and is far ahead of other brands.

In the plasma TV category, Viera is maintaining the absolute No. 1 position with a market share of 57%, as reported by GfK (a market research firm) in January,” he added.

Endoh said this at the launch of Panasonic’s latest G, S and X series, which come with screen sizes ranging from 32 to 50 inches.

Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte Ltd regional sales and marketing director Hiroyoshi Suga said although the company was now a leader in the flat TV segment, it aimed to capture more share in the 37-inch and above market.

He added that Panasonic had achieved 25% market share in five countries in Asia-Pacific for the 37-inch and above segment.

According to GfK’s data, Panasonic’s Viera has emerged as the No. 1 brand since May 2008 in the 37-inch and above for total flat panel TV.

“The penetration rate of flat panel TV in household is still very low in Malaysia with just 13.8% in 2008. However, once it hit 10%, the rate curve increased exponentially.

“This year, the rate is forecast to increase to 24.1%, mainly through the replacement market from CRT (cathode-ray tube) TV to flat panel TV,” Endoh said.

He said despite the economic slowdown, the company would spend on advertising and promotion activities for its Viera products.

“Panasonic spends a lot of money for marketing activities but our competitors are not sleeping either. We will be very flexible in that sense,” he said.

Panasonic spent about RM6mil to market its Viera products last year.

He added that its target market for the new TV series was “people who have a colour TV”.

The group, which celebrates its 33rd anniversary in Malaysia this year, will embark on roadshows and joint promotions nationwide.

In conjunction with the launch, Panasonic is showcasing the world’s largest 150-inch plasma and the ultra-slim 8.8mm 50-inch Neo Plasma TVs at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre until Sunday.

yea, so that's where Panasonic is...

i nvr trust LGs & Samsung products..not TV, not fridge, not Air-Con not anything...its not that their product is not good, but if a brand is offering a TV at RM15k, and LG or Samsung can do the same at RM10k, u hv to wonder how & why...

look at Pioneer Kuro range...do u get any of those SD card or USB slot crap?? those are gadgets...meant to attract big crowds...

Self proclaim champion lah.  whistling.gif

57% market share for 50" and above, but 50" and above makes up only a small percentage of the overall flat TV market lah.  Its the 40" and below that is selling like hot cakes and pana is not doing well here.

I won't say if Samsung or LG brand is good or bad, but they are turning heads and gaining market share worldwide.  Just check out any review sites and you'll see Samsung LCD dominatings the reviews.  Just because you don't trust their product don't make them bad lah.
*
dun get me wrong bro...am not saying LG or Samsung produce bad quality stuffs...nothing like that...its just that, Panny is also very strong in the HDTV segment...and i think its becos of their plasmas that Plasma TV actually still in existent..cos if depend on Kuro, close shop since they selling a TV for the price of a 2nd hand car in Malaysia...

i believe Panny really takes their Plasma TV development seriously, even more so now that Pioneer tapau their PDP production...so, dun la say that Panny heading nowhere...

even with LCD segments, they trying their best to capture the 37in and above segment, that shows their commitment...altho i like panny plasma tv, for LCD, for me Sharp is still number 1...Sony...well, i have a brand issue with Sony, so no matter how good their LCD is also i wont be interested whistling.gif

anyways...no one single brand or product will ever satisfy everybody...some like sammy, some like LG, some like me, like panny & sharp...and HATE Sony products...but even that, everything has its pros & cons..one need to look at its overall performance, value for money, its support, & whether it suits ur liking & preference...

btw, my Sharp LCD blew that day after heavy rain & lightning...dad forgot to unplug the power socket..the response by Sharp? less than 6hrs after i make the phone call...the charges? none.. cos the tech guy very nice and accept my unfilled warranty card thumbup.gif otherwise RM600...so Sharp support... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Price of Pioneer 508 dropped to RM9,500.00 for brand new set because of stock clearance. Worth it or not? Was paying that much for a 43 inch set only 2 years ago! Its for the 1365 x 768 native resolution model. The 50 inch full 1080p version is too expensive for me. Demo set going for RM14,999.

Any comments?

i just got an email reply from Panny M'sia asking them about the launch of V & Z series - too much of speculations...i wanna know if i shud wait rclxub.gif

anyways, email one was received at 4.36pm and it says:

"We thank you for your enquiry. However, we regret to inform that the quoted V & Z series of Plasma model is not available in Malaysia. Do visit our website: www.panasonic.com.my/viera for our latest range of Panasonic products. Thank you."

then, second email came 6mins later at 4.42pm and now the same person from first email says:

"Kindly be informed that we do not have any information on mentioned V & Z series of Plasma model. However, please take note that we will advertise in our website and mass media related information of our Panasonic products prior to the launching.

Kindly visit our website www.panasonic.com.my for detailed information on our products that are available in Malaysia market."

so, i'm more rclxub.gif than ever!!!! will they or will they not launch the V&Z series in Malaysia...simple questions, but rclxub.gif reply notworthy.gif

i also asked them why wouldn't they make the V&Z series available in M'sia...but no words on those...hhrrrmm...

Think that's same panel with A65 with redesigned bezels.
Don't think Panasonic gonna launch V series. It's 50" above, target market is elite group. Gonna cost a bomb...
Panasonic have more 'value for money' G & S series.
Z & V gives more aesthetic value and THX certified panel and x264 playback via SD.
Looking at it, G & S series is more sensible for general Malaysia market.

IIRC bro HTkaki can offer this price. Check with him  smile.gif

but G & S series no 24p cinema playback worr...that cannot be a good thing right? a step back from the previous PY850...might as well go for the older model??

OK guys, update on my IR issue. The Panasonic service guy came to my house at 5pm. And i showed him the IR on the screen. He told me that I am the very first guy to report this in Malaysia. Therefore, it is a big incident.

So, he took a couple of pictures and saved the pictures that I took yesterday also and jot down a brief report of my viewing habits that he will be sending to Japan. At the same time, he activated a screen wash feature from the service menu, which features an extremely bright white bar scrolling from left to right to clear the IR and he told me to leave it on for a couple of hours. According to him, it will either improve it or completely clear it and I was told to call him tomorrow morning and let him know of the improvements from this screen wash feature.

Meanwhile, he will go and consult the management regarding this to see whether or not the warranty is valid in this case coz IR within 4 months of normal usage is a very rare case and unacceptable scenario. All in all, Panny is really doing everything to keep pv80 purchasers happy. Extremely good and fast service I would say.

Anyway, will further update you guys on my findings.

Added on April 23, 2009, 5:26 pm

Oh yeah, I was adviced to be cautious with logos that have bright white wordings from the Panasonic service guy too. For now, I would advise astro users to use the Zoom1 aspect ratio when you encounter any logos in channel programs that pose a threat of IR.
*
hi, can u post a picture of the IR problem? just curious to see how 'bad' is it..good to know no one else have this problem, cos it shows newer gen PDP really give less IR problems..

i dun think anyone can tell u the answer to that, but i'm pretty convienced ur not gonna get ur answer...everyone's preference is different...likewise, its up to ur own eyes & wallet to determine which is the best LCD.

sony seems to hv the incredible 200Hz motionflow tech which is really expensive, but personally, Sony's not to my liking.

samsung's LED tv is superb, but again, ur gonna have to break ur piggy bank to get it.

Aquos would be my preferred choice.
