Added on June 6, 2009, 4:32 amSo I suppose, HDD life expectation should be around 10000Hrs of operation right? I thought should be 50000Hrs... hmm.gif

well, they usually dont say how many hours la...
they just usually say abt 3-5 years la...coz many factors can affect ur hdd wan. like heat, fragmented hdd and rough handling.
so like usually its 3-5 years la...but it can spoil anytime aso because of factory defects or anything. we wouldnt know. the harddisk that you just bought might be an old one where someone sent it back for warranty.

Erm I always kept the harddisk below 40'c... but then my front fan vibrates like earthshaker sweat.gif Now I had my front fan fixed with rubber to damp the vibrations icon_idea.gif PSU also I-Cute brand, which I not sure it is really cute anyway tongue.gif come to think about it, my harddisk sure does goes through quite a hard time instead of hard Dix-ing tongue.gif Oh yeah I pretty sure that my hard disk was bought as new smile.gif

Know what? Right now I am using a god-knows-how-old Seagate hard disk, given by my friend. Model ST34321A Medalist 4321, IDE type, and hell yeah, you guessed it! Its only 4Gb! Now I had to downgrade to XP instead of vista tongue.gif but still, this hard disk surprisingly still rocks though... No bad sector what-so-ever. Seems like I'd prefer old harddisk nod.gif and just yesterday another fresh-from-junkyard hard disk comes in. A Quantum Bigfoot TX4! Given by my brother-in-law, and u guessed again! Its 4Gb only too! Wow my computer is officially ancient tongue.gif Now I had to survive with 8Gbs of total hard disk space, (I think I can) while my 160Gb hard disk being RMA-ed sweat.gif

My seagate too died after 6 months. Thats my second replacement. The last time was due to bad sectors. This time i think it was bricked. Anyway, if u try searching th net i think u can find ways to unbrick your hard disk but its quite technical and risky (voids your warranty). I am trying a something else.. hehe will post here if it works.. Maybe a few weeks time.. i dun really like going to forums but since there r people who hav the same problems.. Hope i can help in future wink.gif

urs also from the 7200.11 batch? I read that 1.5TB version doesn't have this problem right? I'm thinking of getting the 1.5TB version to store my backup

My HDD froze like others. But my bad luck I can send the HDD to RMA as I am in bangladesh and the customs are stupid. I made successfull communications with seagate and they confirmed it that its the firmware problem and they agreed to send free pickup and delivery but my bangladesh customs stoped it. Now i want to update the firmware by myself.

THE HDD IS NOT DETECTED BY THE BIOS, IN THIS SITUATION HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE AND FROM WHERE TO GET THE FIRMWARE

A tip to getting your HDD back with all your data untouched shall your Seagate 7200.11 brick:

1. Log on to Seagate's website.
2. Create a support case.
3. A support representative will contact you to confirm that your HDD is facing firmware issue.
4. Once confirmed, Seagate will arrange for UPS pickup to be delivered to Singapore for firmware upgrade.
5. After 10-20 working days, you'll receive your HDD at your doorstep with upgraded firmware and all your data in store.

No more worries about sending your HDD back to local service centres or sending your HDD for Data Recovery services.

Cheers!

@dark.angel
you cant update the firmware when it cannot be detected in BIOS already. It's too late. Its now bricked already.
if u wan ur data den hav to send for data recovery la. giv me a call - 0 1 2 3 4 5 99 52.
i do data recovery btw.

@mxploit
as far i know when i last read at the seagate website, they only offer free data recovery for those in the US only.
any updates?

Lol!!

I've been using the ST350032 with PN: 98X154-303 and firmware SD15 for the last 1 1/2 years and didn't noticed that I was running on a timebomb HDD..

Ok, I went to http://support.seagate.com/warranty and after filling up everything which resulted my drive is still under warranty untill 2013 (wow!) and under the Options (See Details Below) tab, it states:

"Exchange
Please return directly to Seagate"

Should I return it now, or wait till it dies??? biggrin.gif HDD been running fine and no bios fail detection whatsover...
