Guys help! I'm using the 1 tera ST31000340AS version and the problem cropping out a week ago when i notice slight lag when i'm watching movies on it. This drive is not master and it just for data. I can boot up and it works fine for a few minutes then it became hard to access and sometimes fail. I've updated to SD1A and the problem is still the same. Any suggestion?

Seriously does the SD1A firmware works? Cuz when i experiencing BSY i quickly flash it from SD15 to SD1A. But the problem still there. Its fine when i started and after 5 mins or so it became laggy and finnally can't even go in my folders. Its a slave drive fyi.
Another thing i read somewhere that SD2B version is out but i can't find it anywhere in the net. Does anyway have any idea regarding the SD2B firmware?

Symptons after an uncertain number of booting up your HDD will not be detected by BIOS (and possibly all your other SATA/PATA devices, even non-Seagate ones), or your BIOS reports it having 0GB capacity. Your data is still intact, however, something in the firmware is telling the BIOS that it is busy.

exactly what happened on my ST3750330AS that served as ext hdd, undetectable in BIOS within one week usage...
400GB data gone in just seconds of reboot... rclxms.gif

Has anyone tried the gradius solution in mfsn forum? What's with the cable that used? Some use parallel port and some use serial? Which one is suppose to be used?

Very high chance of the HD dying soon. Most of the 340 series (4 platters) die when problem starts unless the problem is the one which the SD1A firmware fixes. If you buy Seagate get those ending with 33x.... those are 3 platter per HD ones and so far no problems (or negligible). The firmware for these are CCH something.... shits... I have one in my PC but I couldn't rem the details.

Generally the Seagate firmwares fixes specific problems with the HDD. Problem is there seems to be many different problems associated with the 340 HDDs and tts y the SD1A firmware will not work on ALL of the HDDs with problems. Maybe you can contact the forumer and see if he can help you to rma.

Checked my 2x 1Tb and 1 x 1.5Tb. Seagate said it's okay. Hopefully it's okay.

My ST31000340NS just died (SN05 firmware). It was running on RAID0 (x3) on a Mac Pro. The other 2 disks of the same model survived but as expected there are no survivors when it comes to data.

Now I have to re-edit some videos from scratch as I don't have a full backup.

Damn it.

Just to remind, the correct procedure to flash:

(1) Burn ISO to a disc.
(2) Unplug non-related HDD drives from ur system and leave only the target drive and the CD/DVD drive which needs to boot up the CD.
(3) Set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD
(4) CD boots up, read the text, press F10.
(5) Press A,B,C depends on which model.
(6) Press any key to shutdown the PC.
(7) Now, this step i see most people didn't do. The 'CYCLE POWER' thingy.
- switch off ur main power switch.
- unplug the PC power.
- Press and HOLD the power button for 10 seconds.
(8) Plug in ur power supply.
(9) Power on main switch.

I believe the reason for step (7) is to clear off some static electric still remains in the mobo/hdd or something like that. Better safe than sorry.

Not sure about other cases but my 'already affected' hdd cannot even be flashed. In fact it would stop the system from booting properly.
