You have to scold him whenever he scratch his hair cuz some might not get used to it or it will became habit. Like mine last time also like to scratch whenever I tied her hair up, now no more scratching but she likes to push her head on her bed or my bed and then in a minute she'll became a ghost dog with all her face cover by her own hair hahaha
what u can do is, try to tie his hair when u saw he was nearly sleeping/tired. You let him play until he was tired then u try to tie his hair that time. This is because when he was soooooooo tired, he will just let u do his hair and wont really move alot, after sometimes he might get used to let u tie his hair =]

Thanks so much for the advice! Yeah i guess she's just not used to it! I did scold her when she scratches at the rubber band, but after that she's smart enough to do so only when i'm not around rclxub.gif Maybe i'm doing it wrong! Haha! Gotta ask the groomer to teach me now to tie then! notworthy.gif

Hi everyone, I hope to get some help from you experienced Maltese owners here smile.gif

I just placed a booking fee for a Maltese pup that's only 3 weeks old. There were 3 pups to choose from - one pure white, one white with very light brown on its head and ears, and one white with obvious light brown on the head, ears and patches on the body.

Of course, the one with most brown was the lowest priced one and thus I booked it. Now I'm just wondering about the possibility that the brown fur will turn white as it grows old? Or should I pay more to change to the puppy with whiter fur?

The puppies come with MKA cert so I doubt they're mixed...

Thanks for all your help! laugh.gif

daisypooh: Thanks for sharing! I saw some pics of your touffy... his brown is much lighter than the one I booked... and it still doesn't change to white? sad.gif Anyway after reading what you said I called the breeder to change to the pup with lighter brown patches... the breeder said it's not 100% guarantee it'll all turn white but previous similar pups he sold did sweat.gif

saingau: Collecting the puppy when it's 6 weeks old. I actually asked the breeder if I could leave it with its mum till 7 or 8 weeks, but he said cannot...

Overall I'm abit worried about the pup altho it looked healthy but this breeder breeds many kinds of dogs all staying together. I wish I could get one from a more reputable breeder but their price is usually way too high sad.gif

From the malteses I see before, some brown patches will turn white, some wont. One of my maltese, can see his fur turn from light brown to white and a few months later, its brown again. I find the patches cute though. tongue.gif

May i ask how much u paid for this pup? Reputable breeders usually charge reasonable price for pet quality unless u are referring to show quality dog. Better get a little more expensive healthy dog than unknown breeders who breeds various breeds. Just my opinion. smile.gif

Hi guys just wanted to ask a quick question as this is my first time having a dog. My Maltese is coming to 3 months old. During the night we keep him in a cage inside the house with a fan on. No aircon. Is that alright? The fan isn't blown directly, however. Just wanted to be sure the temperature's alright especially he's still quite young. Oh we do have a towel inside just in case he wants to cuddle in it or something. Any comments or advices pls? Thanx in advance.

I wonder why people always think that maltese = must be fully white and those with some brown patches is not acceptable or whatever reason u could think of sweat.gif

As far as I know, puppy who had either light or very visible dark patches on their fur means the parents pigmentation is too strong that some of the pup might be affected and I don't see anything wrong with that wink.gif and yes, some might turn to white while some might not and I'm proudly announce here that autumn is a pure maltese thou she still has her brown patches and honestly, she looks awesome with that look smile.gif

for those who has not met my girl, here are some pics to refer to

Her 1st day at home,

u can see she still have those patches around her body and basically me n my mom thinks she looks cute with those un-balanced patches lol thou I've been told that the fur 'might' turn to white when she turn adult as her father's also has some patches which turns white later on. No offense to anyone. I just wanted to show my girl's pic as I think some ppl still confuse and think that maltese should have fully white fur and I do know some puppies still have their patches when they turn adult like autumn & touffy. So I guess, it doesnt matter if ur pup have those brown patches as long as u get it from reputable breeder unless if u really want fully white maltese biggrin.gif

btw, who u get ur pup from?

Even at 8weeks it's still too early to take it imo.

Ethical breeders usually will sell at 5-6mths.
