i dun own a maltese but my family has a basset hound.... we spayed her.... the surgery was in the morning but by evening, we could bring her home already and just let the wound heal....

if there are other dogs in your house, do quarantine your dog as you wouldn't want other dogs to rip open the wound before it heals.... after the would heals, she is her usual self already.... rclxms.gif

also, many responsible dog owners would recommend you to spay/neuter your dogs regardless of breed to prevent unwanted pregnancy.... this surgery wouldn't change your dog's attitude towards you any bit.... rclxm9.gif

benefits of spaying/neutering
1. females wouldn't come on heat, leaking blood and attracting males....
2. males wouldn't go bonkers when they smell a female on heat....
3. they stop marking teritories
4. some say their lifespan increases (but i'm not sure of this though)
5. males are less aggressive

hope this helps, cheers! biggrin.gif

Where did you spay? How was the vet's handling/experience?
*
we did it at the Taman Megah vet.... they were quite ok with the service.... usually when our dogs need any medical attention, we would go to that clinic....

applying for dog license depends on your location hence your municipal council....
and different municipal councils have different set of rules on how you gonna obtain your license....

my female basset was spayed too.... as what happened to ur girl, on the day she was just lying down on our laps, resting.... only on that day we spoil her by leaving her food bowl there and allow her to eat anytime she wants, just as long as she eats.... she was walking around the next day already although needed few more days before she was running around....
try not to wet the wound untill it heals though, and if have other dogs at home, seperate her in case they decide to tear the wound apart....
the wound should heal on its own without much fuss, so if you notice anything weird, should check it out....
fur would grow back and scar is not visible.... like my dog she has markings, it didnt affect her markings, still grew back the same.... smile.gif

hope your girl recovers soon.... smile.gif

welcome to the maltese thread.... smile.gif

from my reading, its best to spay/neuter before their 1st cycle or around 6 mths of age.... but if you decide to do it after they reach adulthood also can 1....

the maltese is male la xD
anyway, I dun think spaying before 1st heat is recommended? I mean I read before that some says spaying after they finish their 1st heat is actually recommended because the 1st cycle is actually gives the hormone to grow so spaying after that is actually better than before the heat. as for neutering the male, should be about 8 months plus?
peak_wei88 : I bring them to Ruby's Resort, cherating, kuantan there. It's the only resort that allows pets and its my 2nd time there last week smile.gif

I normally bring my girl to Desa Park, went to BU park once as well but based on my experiences, u will see more dogs n diff breeds on desa park compare to BU park xD
*
lol.... but many articles i've read actually recommend to neuter/spay before they mature.... example i quote from this website

http://www.cesarsway.com/askthevet/basicad...-neuter-or-spay

this is also a good article to read, it lists out and gives a brief explanation of the benefits of spaying/neutering you pet....

if you read the first link i gave u, the author did mentioned at the beginning that different vets have different experiences.... was your vet speaking out of experience? and were you comfortable with your vet? coz this is 1 of the factor you need to consider when choosing vets as well....

when exactly to neuter ur pup is all up to you as the owner to decide, whether you are more comfortable with the concept of early neutering or more comfortable with the concept of late neutering.... what 3rd party people like us, the internet and your vet can do is to give you advice and information.... you can actually google more information about neutering before making a decision if you are still unsure....

i'm sure ur pup believes that you will choose in his best interest.... do update us about ur pup and also post some pictures.... biggrin.gif

yup they do.... normally during the changing teeth process, their mouth (gums) will be itchy, always wanna bite stuffs.... and for some, if uncomfortable, will have tear stains.... after that they will have their adult teeth already....
