Yep...true enuf....the notes are sufficient for sem 1....no time to read thru those thick and heavy , worse than paper weight books....

Added on May 3, 2009, 6:51 pmAnyway fen88 mind share with us something bout u? like what u took for pre -U, Ur results , why u choose biomedical science? Why choose IMU? Or maybe there are other options that u are considering now?? What would u like to do after u graduate etc,etc,etc.....Juz wanna know more bout ur views.... Talk anything u want and try elaborate more.....
*
Ya, just straight to ur question. smile.gif
I took STPM.why choice biomed?
hmm...part of it because i realise my weekness, i'm quite week in calculation,
but i like memorize and imagine the article i read. That is prove by truth oso,coz i get better result for PA and BIO in STPM, (A and B+ respectively)
I have make up my mind to study in IMU already, just got a feeling here is the right place, haha~

other option? receive pharmacy course offer by msu before, but i dun like chemistry, ha,my father said that i'll regret in future ,
but i don think so ,i prefer to do something i interest in, at least i like .Then ,receive offer by pidc(penang international dental college),it is a twin program, (2 year in India +3 year in Malaysia, min cgpa requirement 3.0) .if i'm a boy i definately will go for it,but there is a lot of problem to go that far ,if something bad happen to me,i'm alone there, without family, without relative...
after graduate?hard to said anything .might change my mind after 3 year~ tongue.gif

Added on May 4, 2009, 12:59 pmcybersetan ,i have something not clear about the research topic,
after we choice a research topic, then we need to do research on that topic in real live (like get some information from industry by ourself,do experiment in lab etc.)or we just need to find information about the topic (through internet or other sourse)?
on other word,we need to do research ourselves on that topic ,or juz gather the information from exist article?
oh~spss??! i'm the worst ,i think,never hear it before...what can i do ?attend tuition class?hais......^^

from my experience so far.. i guess i can say that biomeds are more focused on the diagnostic and research in the medical field where as doctors are more to the clinical practice and treatment of a patient..

for those who are still confused bout the course, maybe u can look at it this way.. the first 1 years of the course is usually to teach all the basic stuff bout the human body system (physiology and biochemistry), human infections (microbiology and parasitology) and the important skills needed to analyse and make diagnostic (analytical biochemistry, biostatistics and lab techniques). in the 2nd year, we are inrtoduced to the major fields in biomedical science and it is at this time where we start to think bout which field we would want to venture to for our advance courses in our final year.. as in UM, the major fields that are offered for the final year are physiology, pharmacology, diagnostic virology, medical virology, applied immunology, anatomic pathology, haematology, clinical chemistry, nuclear medicine, analytical chemistry, diagnostic and medical microbiology. we would be able to choose a few fields which we would want to specialise in, of course related to our research project which is carried out simultaneously in our 3rd year.

so all these are just for the study aspect of the course.. job-wise, it could be a whole different story altogether.. common jobs in malaysia would be being a tutor while pursuing your masters, sales rep for a pharmaceutical company, an RA for research projects carried out by lecturers or a lab tech in hospitals dealing with patient diagnosis.

Oh.......cheh....n_n = x_x

Anyway fen88 after u come to IMU , beware of statistics module, u got the chance of learning on how to use the spss software...sadly, i got no idea on how to use it because I forgot EVERYTHING already...summore the lecturer who teach this is juz another boring and dull old uncle....., but u got the chance to use it on sem 1. That statistics crap is kinda confusing , so better be careful and make sure u know what are u doing.....

Anywayz, they said it's easy to pass though...LOL..and luckily I passed too.....LMAO ROFL...but I got no idea of what is it already......T_T.

Wah.....it's getting more and more creepier....

SPSS??? oh my goodness! I;m gonna be dead now....that software is a total headache! I learnt that on my sem 1 but it was a total disaster!!!

Goodness..getting kinda worried now...anyway, how u know on how to handle the software??
*
Get the software first, there are some that have instruction videos included along with the software pack.
How to handle the software? practice on the problems given in the videos... I spent a few weeks trying properly understand how to use spss by myself.

Yes, you will have to do the research project in real life on your own with your supervisor checking every aspect of your research. Generally, a research project that involves laboratory work is known in my Uni as "Wet lab" research and that which doesn't involve laboratory work is known as "Dry lab" research.

"Dry lab" research is the one which will require a lot of data analysis and knowing how to properly use SPSS is vital in this type of research. In this kind of research, you will be required to gather information for your research project from various reliable sources (interviews, questionnaires, evidence from related journals, books, etc) and analyze it.

You will be doing A LOT of traveling for various reasons such as information gathering (National Library, Journals from other Universities' library, conducting interviews, etc) and seeking formal permission from government agencies in order to obtain specific data from hospitals, etc, etc, etc

"Wet lab" research, you will spend most of your time in the laboratory doing a specific research experiment under your supervisor's guidance. Here you will need to be very thorough with the experiment procedures, you will need to compare various methods used by other researchers' in the past by reading their research papers. In this type of research, you will also need to be able to use SPSS in order to analyze the results from your research experiment.

I dont know what else to tell you guys.. Research project is very time-consuming (writing the thesis is another time consuming work)

Hello!i'll take bio medical science this year in IMU (2009)
i heard that last year only 30 student intake.Althought it was new couse just started last year, but i have confident it 'll become popular .The reason is:
1)the university transfer credit to (otago university in new zealand) and also UK.IN THAT CASE ,we get foreign certificate.
2)if u have interest in bio ,u can furthet study .or ,u can use the bio med degree as graduate to enter medcine(accepted in IMU)BUT U MUST GET SECONG UPPER CLASS(3.5 and above in exam)
3)there is always more competative in private university, because resit exam is very expensive,1semester cost13k.total 6 semsester.beside that,we have more chance to polish our english.

that is what i think ,anyone agreed with me? biggrin.gif
*
This is what I got from ur previous biomed thread...wanna ask u:

1. the credit transfer they confrim already?? if they have planned it, how many sems u study local and how many sems u go overseas??
Also to go overseas, what's the cgpa??

2. What's the number of students intake for this year?? Actually the no of students in biomed was 41 on sem 1 but now 32 on sem 2...

3. well there is competition, but i think local public is more competitive. if u fail, u still have to resit....LOL
