ok2, was the Chemistry paper THAT killing? i mean, chemistry is not really my forte among my science subjects in school..
and by taking ausmat, will it be easier/as easy to enter IMU/Monash *provided hopefully, that i achieved/exceeded the min req* ?
Not hard, you just need to practice a lot. But I think coming from Malaysian school, they're used to memorizing things so when it comes to application, they just couldnt do it

. For some, it's a language issue. MUFY course is really short, around 16 weeks per semester, 8 weeks if you're on accelerated program. If you did high school chemistry in Arabic or Korean or in my case, Bahasa Melayu

, the hill is a tad steeper

No difference between "easiness to enter" between Ausmat and MUFY. But if someday you're interested to do your course somewhere else cheaper (say, Taylor's or MAHSA

), taking Ausmat makes more sense.

are these MUFY students local students or students that are residing in australia?
Local and international students in Sunway

Was there any prior notice of the expected tougher Chemistry paper? Such a critical subject for critical courses and kill the hopes of so many students. From med to biomed, what a drastic change unless aiming for graduate entry. Similar to the early years of the med program in AIMST, 600 to 700 foundation students aiming for 100 odd places. Would be interesting to know what happen to these biomed graduates. Understand that biomed is not a flourishing industry, a "forced" acceptance. Would have been better to have opt for the popular courses after failing to get into med - how many can do such a turnaround but to hang around some medical related course!
I think it lies on their attitude. You have to realize that MUFY is promoted an 'easier route' to Monash, so those who signed up for MUFY arent studious. Previously, a lot of internal marks were based on topic tests and quizzes. Now they changed the syllabus to include presentation and reports. One of my coursemate ended up taking double degree in Biomed and Biotech

The ones who have done A levels were Singaporeans. I think about 3 or 4 Malaysians got in via the standard MUFY program. All of them did the program in Taylor's College Melbourne. From this year onwards, however, MUFY is run by Monash College.
Added on February 24, 2012, 1:30 pmI don't think the chemistry paper became "tougher". Questions would have been based on the syllabus covered.
Weird. What's the reason for taking MUFY after A Levels?

Agreed. Most students are taking MUFU far too for granted.
Ditto that

Quote from Syd G:
".........most became casualty of the killer Chemistry paper (even after repeating), so they end up doing biomed instead. "
What was it if not being tougher? Taken for granted. Monash would surely be fuming......there goes the potential medic and pharm students.
Not tougher. It's a mystery to us too. When I took Chemistry A, there were about 30 repeaters for the subject.
The only thing I can pin it on is the quality of teachers
