What was it if not being tougher? Taken for granted. Monash would surely be fuming......there goes the potential medic and pharm students.

ok2, was the Chemistry paper THAT killing? i mean, chemistry is not really my forte among my science subjects in school..
and by taking ausmat, will it be easier/as easy to enter IMU/Monash *provided hopefully,  that i achieved/exceeded the min req* ?
*
Not hard, you just need to practice a lot. But I think coming from Malaysian school, they're used to memorizing things so when it comes to application, they just couldnt do it biggrin.gif . For some, it's a language issue. MUFY course is really short, around 16 weeks per semester, 8 weeks if you're on accelerated program. If you did high school chemistry in Arabic or Korean or in my case, Bahasa Melayu tongue.gif, the hill is a tad steeper wink.gif

No difference between "easiness to enter" between Ausmat and MUFY. But if someday you're interested to do your course somewhere else cheaper (say, Taylor's or MAHSA tongue.gif), taking Ausmat makes more sense.

QUOTE(ABMKA @ Feb 24 2012, 11:17 AM)
are these MUFY students local students or students that are residing in australia?
*
Local and international students in Sunway

QUOTE(cckkpr @ Feb 24 2012, 11:32 AM)
Was there any prior notice of the expected tougher Chemistry paper? Such a critical subject for critical courses and kill the hopes of so many students. From med to biomed, what a drastic change unless aiming for graduate entry. Similar to the early years of the med program in AIMST, 600 to 700 foundation students aiming for 100 odd places. Would be interesting to know what happen to these biomed graduates. Understand that biomed is not a flourishing industry, a "forced" acceptance. Would have been better to have opt for the popular courses after failing to get into med - how many can do such a turnaround but to hang around some medical related course!

I think it lies on their attitude. You have to realize that MUFY is promoted an 'easier route' to Monash, so those who signed up for MUFY arent studious. Previously, a lot of internal marks were based on topic tests and quizzes. Now they changed the syllabus to include presentation and reports. One of my coursemate ended up taking double degree in Biomed and Biotech sweat.gif sweat.gif

QUOTE(podrunner @ Feb 24 2012, 01:25 PM)
The ones who have done A levels were Singaporeans. I think about 3 or 4 Malaysians got in via the standard MUFY program. All of them did the program in Taylor's College Melbourne. From this year onwards, however, MUFY is run by Monash College.

I don't think the chemistry paper became "tougher". Questions would have been based on the syllabus covered.
*
Weird. What's the reason for taking MUFY after A Levels?

QUOTE(zstan @ Feb 24 2012, 04:21 PM)
Agreed. Most students are taking MUFU far too for granted.

Ditto that smile.gif

Not tougher. It's a mystery to us too. When I took Chemistry A, there were about 30 repeaters for the subject. hmm.gif

The only thing I can pin it on is the quality of teachers wink.gif

local australians residents(citizens and pr's) are not allowed to do foundations......well, they can i think if they want, but the unis will probably throw their applications out....

by default, they do year 12....alternative pathways in some private schools are ib and a levels....

exceptions are made for aussie residents residing outside australia....

Apparently, they took MUFY after not succeeding to get into mbbs using A levels results. About 5 or 6 got into mbbs Clayton via this pathway.

it is not uncommon for people to try repeat a pre-u to attempt admission into a critical course....for sporeans, mufy would be an obvious choice....and they should find it relatively easy after the spore a levels (note that the marking standards of the spore a level is different from those of the uk boards, it is stricter, but not as strict as hk)....

Does that mean that hk A better than sg A n then boleh A. Does the unis look it in that manner or no diff. If no diff, why we get a handicap?

If hk A* is 98 n abv n ours is 90 n abv, isn't that a handicap? Something like Bumi privilege.

I'd assume so, considering their academic background. They should be able to bag some subject awards in the process as well smile.gif

alritey...... *slowly processing info* thank you thank you.
emmm, but the intake into the MBBS programme at the MOnash sunway campus is only in feb right?
if i were to take a-levels (an recommendation from my dad coz its widely recognised) i won't make it for the intake right?
and earlier, Syd G mentioned that MUFY results can be used to enter IMU but when i checked out their website, MUFY was not on the list of entry requirements. if i were not able to enter MBBS in Monash *if i didn't meet the requirements* can i or can i not use it to apply to IMU?

You should be able to use MUFY to apply to IMU. I know of a couple of MUFY students who were accepted into IMU. Give them a call to get first hand information.

You're planning to do MBBS local or partner medical school (PMS) ?

MUFY is under 'Australian University Foundation Programmes'. 80% average smile.gif

Btw there's nothing wrong with taking A-Levels for 1 1/2 year and wait another 1/2 year to do MBBS. One should not rush into medical school, it can be overwhelming at times biggrin.gif
