Yeah I got mine plugged into AC 24/7 and I rarely turn my laptop off. Batt is still good so far and this laptop is over a year old.

weird.. other people would swear that the batt will die if plugged into the main 24/7..

i think its depends on how the battery/circuit are manufactured/formulated/designed ... good design=battery lasts longer vs poor design = battery last shorter

thats y i think many if not all would not want to warranty battery longer than necessary

Don't forget, the batteries don't get charged if the notebook is plugged in 24/7.
It's a myth that the battery will keep charging if plugged in. All consumer devices with lithium-ion batteries have proper protection and charging circuitry. Because any lithium-ion cobalt battery that is overcharged or overdischarged can turn into a bomb when it experiences thermal runaway.

The only enemy to the batteries are heat.

it works just like a rechargeable batt.. once the batt cant retained its power, it's time to change.

yeah apparently the macbook battery doesnt exactly charge even thou its plugged into the ac 24/7.
urm read it somewhere, so i dont knw to what degree this statement is true. but the adapter is not connected directly to the battery. thats why when you flip the mac the other way around, the adapter is at one end and the battery is at the other. there is a chip that only lets the battery charge when its not full. when it is, the power go directly to where its needed and not to the battery first like any other device is designed to.

yeah but keep in mind that i read this of sumwhere and im not to sure of how true this is.hahha think the sifus over here will prove the statement after i post this up. nod.gif

yeah no power is used. similar to charging your phone:
if the phone battery is empty and you charge it, you can feel that the charger becomes hot. but when its full and you leave it plugged and on, you will notice that after awhile the charger is not hot nemore.
same concept. nod.gif

Lemme shed more light on Li-ion/Li-polymer batteries.

BTW I'm new in this thread.

Our macbook's use Li-polymer, which is basically the same as Li-ion but is not round therefore you can have more capacity per volume(if cells are cubic in nature). Li-ion's are basically round cells and therefore have less capacity per volume.

Li-ion's have 3 enemies. Heat, time and (strangely) capacity.
Hotter = die faster
Longer = die faster
The more charge it has = die faster (to a point only)

Storing @ 30ºC for 1 year, your battery will lose it's capacity faster than @10ºC for 1 year if both are at equal charge.
Storing @ 100% charge for 1 year, your battery will lose it's capacity faster than @50% charge for 1 year if both are at equal temperature.
And of course, storing for 1 year, your battery will lose it's capacity faster than storing for 6 months if both are at equal temperature.

Li-ion seems happiest @ 40% charge, low temperatures.
Also, li-ion seems to not like cycling 0%>100%>0%

Oh well...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong anywhere.

Oh ya. Forgot my battery. Just ran a cycle a week ago I think.
Ori capacity: 5020 mAh
Current capacity: 94%(4731 mAh)
Loadcycles: 261
Age of Mac: 21 months
Pretty good I'd say.
