It is not advisable to alter the shoulders. Firstly it is very difficult. I can say 90% of tailors would not want to do it. If they do it would probably cost more than a cheap suit or 50% of the cost of your current suit. Now i have asked a few non prestige tailors and even clothing alterators. They charge in a region of RM150-300 for shoulders. And no guarantee of the outcome. So you can't go b****in at them if the suit does not improve that what you brought in. The best suggestion? Sell the suit.

Quick style question:

Planning on making a Nehru-collar suit for my wedding. What style of vents are appropriate for a wedding suit? Ventless, single or double? I personally like double vents because the square ass-flap looks neater than the single hospital-gown-bare-my-bum-when-I-walk vent.
But are there any particular requirements or traditions I should be aware of or do I just go ahead with whatever I personally prefer?

Also, does anyone know where I can find dress shirts off the rack that are v-collared like the one in the sample picture? Or at best, a nehru-collar dress shirt? I don't reeeeally want to custom make a dress shirt as well.

The shirt you can buy at departmental stores. Its called mandarin collar or band collar. But if you need unique designs, then you have to get them at tailored. But before you get the shirt of dept stores, you could check out Sg Wang and also Domanchi in Mid Valley to see if these unique band collared shirts are available. Anyway i think your idea is somewhat like this.

3 collar variations and double vent for sure. Makes your job so easy as there are photo reference. Or go to his tailor Lords and ask for Tun Mahathir's suit. wink.gif

Binwani's stuff. RM30/m right?

Added on March 23, 2010, 5:05 pmThe problem with these cheap poly blend from Binwani's is that they age remarkably quickly. I had two trousers made from them, and after 2 washes in the washing machine they look and feel terrible.

theyre good choice for some reasons----reasonably priced fabrics are needed if 1)youre experimenting a newfound tailor; 2)youre experimenting a new cut / dsign apporoach; 3)you just want an everyday clothes for hard daywork purposes; 4)youre cheap-----im cheap,,

Our Father in heaven, I have sinned (yet again). The cloth merchant tempted me, and I was powerless, oh Father.

The haberdasher came next. I fell into his temptation without so much as a squeal.

it depends

Added on March 29, 2010, 6:23 pmLet it here be known that nobody should buy MOP buttons online. Out of maybe 10 buttons only one exhibits the sort of iridescense that makes MOP worth the trouble. When I was at the haberdashers, I took my time picking the most remarkable ones -- the ones that seem to be on fire. The not-so-good MOPs are very bland and bleh.

Also, someone from this forum actually went to Hwa Seng in Singapore to pick horn buttons. It's gratifying to know I'm not the only one obsessive about these things.

Added on March 29, 2010, 10:43 pmWell I tried buying lining from theliningcompany.co.uk and looks like they are no longer interested in sending to Malaysia. £24.95 for shipping 10 horn buttons. Also they seem to have run out of ermazine. What a pity.
