I recently bought a ready-to-wear Valentino Rudy jacket suit and i find that it needs slight alterations on the shoulder. It's a bit too broad for me. Is it possible for me to :-
1. Alter the shoulder size
2. Cut down the size of the jacket to a fitting size
3. Get pants that match close to the colour/material of the jacket suit.
Can all these be done by a tailor and what is the price range?

Since so many of you buy Dunhill mohair cloth, I am thinking of founding the Society Of Dunhill Original Mohair Enthusiasts (SODOME). Members may call themselves sodomists. Alternatively, sodomites. Anyone who has bought a length of Dunhill mohair cloth is automatically a member.

In other news, I have met silencer at ALT this afternoon. I was expecting the worst, that ALT would give him his house cut. But the basted suit was instead a very faithful rendition of my cut, and there was even horsehair in the lapels. There was a very definite waist suppression of the sort that nips in, a mild slant to the pockets, and the trousers are short (just touching the shoe). The back is sterile. Armholes are high, but still not as high as I would like them. Buttoning point is atypically low ... I wonder why. The Dunhill cloth is respectable but not exactly remarkable. The second fitting will be in a few days' time.

I'm pretty confident I needn't attend further fittings by anyone else. ALT really does know what to do if you tell him you want my cut.

edit: I think it will be a remarkable suit.

Thanks to kotmj for your kindness for spending time on giving advise for further improvement of the fitting, and from the first impression, i could see that the suit is "THE ONE" as a result of a great thinker and a great tailor. It fits according to my body shape without any feel of restraining the body movement..and most importantly, it looks great.......would commission the second 3 pieces suit....in 3 WEEKS TIME..

There was one thing I forgot. On Wednesday, try to make the movement of holding a steering wheel. The movement should feel somewhat restricted, but perfectly possible and without straining the seam at the back too much.

It was personally interesting for me to have met you. A pleasant way to spend a morning.

Hi fellas,

I have two suits which I got of the rack that require alterations. Any shops(preferably in Klang or Shah Alam) that can be recommended to alter the shoulders part? The shoulders are a bit too low for me, slightly oversized. And how much can I expect to be charged for the alteration?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Is it a fashion trend to buy oversized jackets and then scramble to find an alterations tailor? Why not just buy the right sized jacket in the first place?

Come on man. He just needs an answer and if you don't happen to know, you could keep your 2 cents to yourself.

Thx hypoxia. Just to explain I got those from Dubai for an official function I had to attend on short notice. I returned early next morning so I didnt get the chance to change it. Yes I would have loved to have got one that suits me to a t but under the circumstances unfortunately that didn't turn out for me.

good tailors are hard to find (especially in malaysia).. i don't think anyone here has any good word about any tailors particularly in Klang or Shah Alam.. but you could probably head to Bespoked in 1U, kotmj and lanatir swears by them..

upon this observation, it can be deduced that pinned threads don't do their job hmm.gif

i think a more detailed FAQ is needed. also, the forum itself doesn't lend very much to detailed searching especially since the threads are humongously long.

To be frank, I have doubt that a good tailor is willing to do the alteration for the shoulder suit, as it will definitely ruin the whole cut structure, and most important thing is a GOOD tailor is more concern on the guality outcome of his works rather than the perks.....just my 2 cent....

Thanks for the feedback fellas. If anyone who has done it before can advice on its price range would be much appreciated.

Btw, since the question I have raised has been asked many times before, can it be put up on the first page of this thread for convenience of reference? It'd be good for those new to this thread I think.
