Count me in.

Let's get a thread on our subforum and have it pinned to inform the rest about the exact time, venue and... activities.

This is unexpected. Let me think about the ramifications first before I say anything.

i think you all should make it a point to go properly dressed (informal/business with business suit or blazer, tie, PS at least) to ALT. oh ya and ppl like fusion and jind can pray for rain and wear their trenchcoats.

No worries, Kotmj. I know the meet was mainly to assist Silencer, and probably having too many people tagging along to the tailoring shop might not be a good idea. My intention was mainly to see how you assist him with the tailoring directions, so that I will not be too clueless the next time around I go over to ALT. No worries if either of you are uncomfortable with the presence of too many people, for I fully understand that one does not want to be Exhibit A during the fitting which is meant to be a personal experience.

Only with the go ahead by both you and Silencer will I make my trip there tomorrow, if not, do have fun. =)

i've actually got my eye on this alfred dunhill navy kid mohair fabric from, yes british fabrics, but confusingly enough from the picture it looks more like gray, and he wouldn't want to take additional pictures of the material..

Does look like charcoal to me, could be due to the flash, exposure and messed up white balance of his camera.

Guys, I don’t think it’s a good idea so many of us meet at his shop tomorrow.

My primary task at the fitting tomorrow is to make AL develop positive associations with people who find their way to him through this forum.

Five suit enthusiasts gawking at a basted suit during a fitting ought to unsettle any tailor.

“But what,” you ask, “of my Saturday morning entertainment?”

How should I know? Bring your tube of lube to some other meet!

These are jobbers. They buy all sorts of 2nd quality, end of run, unsaleable fabrics and sell them cheap. That particular cloth looks to be the right hue of navy, but it's only mohair, not kid mohair or summer kid mohair and it's not specified what kind of wool it's mixed with. I wouldn't buy it myself.

@kotmj
do you think this fabric will be lighter or darker in real life based on your online fabric purchasing experience?

yeah the shade of navy looks right to what i'm looking for.. aha i see.. so kid mohair compared with mohair is supposed to be much more cooling? im really interested in the dunhill but im afraid the navy might be too dark.. hmmm..

Since so many of you buy Dunhill mohair cloth, I am thinking of founding the Society Of Dunhill Original Mohair Enthusiasts (SODOME). Members may call themselves sodomists. Alternatively, sodomites. Anyone who has bought a length of Dunhill mohair cloth is automatically a member.

In other news, I have met silencer at ALT this afternoon. I was expecting the worst, that ALT would give him his house cut. But the basted suit was instead a very faithful rendition of my cut, and there was even horsehair in the lapels. There was a very definite waist suppression of the sort that nips in, a mild slant to the pockets, and the trousers are short (just touching the shoe). The back is sterile. Armholes are high, but still not as high as I would like them. Buttoning point is atypically low ... I wonder why. The Dunhill cloth is respectable but not exactly remarkable. The second fitting will be in a few days' time.

I'm pretty confident I needn't attend further fittings by anyone else. ALT really does know what to do if you tell him you want my cut.

edit: I think it will be a remarkable suit.
