Yawn.

Went to MBT today. Too bad he is not accepting any jobs at the moment. I shall find him again after the new year.

MBT gave me half canvass construction for jackets with hand-made buttonholes. Well, he quoted me quite a high price this time. I was given a soporific economics lecture today after he declined my commission. "Don't be impatient, young man!" he said to me before I left. That navy wool is back to serve me as my blanket.

I'll be sure to dry-clean it.

MBT mentioned that the cost of workmanship differs considerably from different materials. I still don't get it.

For polyester, it would be around RM300 above. Anything wool, RM600 above. That is double the price. He mentioned different materials were used in the collar/lapels and so on.

I can't see. They're mostly hidden inside a closet.

What is wrong with my avatar?

Eh? I had a light slate suit made from him before. He charges RM500+ two years ago.

Here are the deets for my next one.

-Fkin high gorge(I don't care if it sits higher than my neck)
-Fkin light shoulder padding(5mm is the most I can tolerate)
-Notch lapels
-Hacking pockets
-Double vented

Sad to say, MBT doesn't believe in roped shoulders. Just the materials playing optical tricks he said.

MBT is a master in double vents. Now that you've mentioned it, my previous suit was cut with an overlap of 2inch.

Added on January 11, 2010, 11:15 pmI'm thinking of a batik lining. Hmm

I'm quite the contrary.

I'll be checking out MysteryArrogantBespokeTailor(MABT) next week since MBT turned me down yesterday. MABT happens to be the same firm that made my grandfather's suit with great buttonholes umpteen years ago. The shop has the loveliest facade in town : wood trimmings, glass windows, handsome mannequins on display, air-conditioned. The store is operated by few siblings if not mistaken. In fact I was there a year ago and was greeted with bad customer service from one of them. I will try out his brothers this time.

Added on January 12, 2010, 2:33 pmI've just purchased a bunch of el cheapo grey buttons for less than RM4. It has a very nice shine to it. Nothing flashy. Yes I'm that cheap.

No. I also plan to use it as a sportcoat.

Added on January 12, 2010, 8:46 pmI think I'll just stick to a pink lining. Nothing extra.

What's wrong with the color pink? It makes me happy.

QUOTE(moveslowly @ Jan 13 2010, 05:16 AM)
I remember some friend told me that they got some of their supplies from zegna. Can someone verify that?

Anyway, Dear Experts, I am looking for a shawl lapel tux for my upcoming ball. I have yet decided on the lapel, shawl was merely an intuitive preference; I would also like to consider peaked lapel, but most of the cuttings I've came across look weird or rather awkward. Other questions I have in mind include prices, rent/buy, and the best place to get.

I'm law student, currently my academic results are somewhat first of my class. Do the lapels represent any personalities or styles? If they do, I would like to be in a lower profile wink.gif Most importantly, I am not rich, I came from a middle-class family. So I wondered renting would be a better choice?

Please advise.

So flawed. How does your academic standing relate to your dressing? Let alone the damn lapel. Smart people are somewhat the worst dressers I've seen. Maybe there are exceptions. Unless you get rid of this thinking, you won't be able to master good dressing skills. A peak lapel tux will never go out of style. Stick to it. Don't even think of perfect fit and Savile Row cuts on a rented tux. The odds are one in a million.

If I were to own a single tux for the rest of my life, it will be a peak lapel for sure. That shawl lapel tux in QoS is cool however since you already find it to be merely intuitive, I'd advice against it. If you have to ask, then it's not for you. Moreover, if you only attend black tie events once a year at most, just forget the shawl. A perfect fitting single breasted, peaked, 1 button tux can serve you well for many years to come.

I've just remember what MABT told me two years ago. He mentioned that 4 meters of cloth is required for a 2 piece suit. There must be something wrong with him. I currently have 4 yards. For a 3 piece suit.

I hate you. Now I feel very tempted for a navy double breasted blazer. Navy suit or a DB jacket? Only pick one.

Those are??

I hardly see swappable buttons around. Even harder for MBT to create those buttonholes for this feature. I might drive him up the wall.

Nice. It would be perfect if the buttons came from a dictator's coat.
