What should I wear for prom?

I need a makeover, what should I wear?

How do I mix and match these clothes?

Here we can discuss openly about anything related to clothes/style/fashion such as how to buy a suit, what colour socks to wear, what people think of a particular type of shirt, what they think of a certain brand, what kind of shoes to buy, where to place a tie bar, and tailor recommendations.

Ask your general questions here if you do not feel the need to open a topic, and we will answer them..

--

This thread is dedicated to men who care about the way they dress, about the way they look, and about making the best impression of themselves; in hopes to build up a community of style conscious group where everyone will be able to comfortably talk about clothes without any embarrassment. Of course the ladies are also welcome to join in the discussion as they are the main point why men dress up in the first place =)

Way to go first post.

I will go first in recommending my tailor: Sire's Tailoring, which is just a few shops beside Maybank @ Cheras Business Centre.

The old man tailors for Mahathir and some Sultans. Great guy, very charismatic and entertaining man.

He made my suit. However, don't get fabric from him, you're better off at Binwani's! wink.gif

hmmm when u mean tailor do u mean for alteration purposes or for getting suits done?
as far as i know, mahathir does his suits in Lord's Tailor, im not sure to what extent this information
is true, or he probably gets his suits done from afew tailors.

for me...usually i get those rugged type of clothes...i dont think office wear will be the topic here as they are quite stereotyped already...
jeans is a must for me...
earth colored shirts...brown,grey,white,black,dark green,dark blue...etc
i usually refrain to go for somethin bright like red or yellow, but ill get them for chinese new year...
high collar jackets...kinda like turtlenecks with zip is my fav:lol:
usually for clothes & jackets ill juz go for somethin i like that can be found at the smaller malls or juz small clothes shop...it somehow retains my own sense of originality...tailored are ways too disturbing for me doh.gif

Well those are mostly used during the winter when it's cold. Wearing them here doh.gif is the same as being a walking sauna heater, no?

This is what I think before I wear one, but after wearing it, actually it is quite comfortable and you won't feel hot at all, maybe you you are a guy, so never wear before and don't know how it feel. But one thing need to take note, a good quality one will make you feel comfortable, a bad quality one will make you feel uncomfortable. For male wearing it is towards fashion, I think this is one of the reason kua, but base on the result I got from internet, they also because of "health" or during sport.

I am a girl XD

I know what they are but there's special pantyhose (long johns) for guys which are meant to be worn during the winter to keep them warm, those are the ones usually sold in the US and Europe countries. It will be totally weird if they wear ladies pantyhose laugh.gif

Those guy pantyhose you're talking about is more commonly called long johns, sometimes we call it leggings too. Whatever it is, it is to be worn to keep warm during winter and since you're supposed to be wearing them under your pants, there is no use wearing them in Malaysia. If you want to buy it here, you can find then at any winter clothing store.

Comfilon and Aktivskin are two major brands targetted for the male customers now.

And they are selling like hot cake in USA and Germany, Netherlands, Italy and UK

Also try Levee WoMan. This is made for both genders. If your hubby doesn't like it, then it's yours to wear.
smile.gif

Gerbe from France makes hosiery for men as well now. They are a bit more expensive but higher quality.

Men in pantyhose may be still a bit "eeeck" to the locals in Malaysia, fashion trends takes a long time to trickle from Europe & USA to get to Msia. I think most of us are still very conservative and traditional. Anything that crosses the gender lines tends to be frowned upon.

But there are brave souls out there, coming out of the closet... with websites like Emancipate,Geraden's blog and Eugene T.S. Wong ....

As men around the world are becoming more and more metrosexual (even started using mascara and makeup), the gender lines are being blurred. Although it is slow, surely sooner or later things like men in pantyhose is possible. It is only a matter of time while the older generation is being replaced by the new generation. With that said, young japanese people are already bold enough to cross the gender border with styles like Visual Kei and korean guys being rumoured to go under the plastic surgeon's knife to make face look more feminine. biggrin.gif

General sartorial questions can be asked here instead of needing to open a new thread..

What should I wear for prom?

I need a makeover, what should I wear?

How do I mix and match these clothes?

the more appropriate question you should ask is what to wear instead of brands to wear.. elaborate on what you wrote and let us know what have you been wearing all along? are you a t-shirt guy? jeans guy? or even better post up a picture of the way you currently dress and let us know you think is the issue that is making you look "not-so-grown-up".. from there we can give advice from a much better perspective..

my current ensemble consists of striped polo tees and green pants. There's the occasional hoodie or two but kinda getting bored of them. I want something that makes me stand out during causual friday in the office w/o looking too overly dressed. I have nothing much against the polo tees but they make me feel like some uncle golfer.

Brand wise, I cant afford topman or fcuk yet which is why I'm kinda asking if there are cheaper alternatives to them.

I do not go well with jeans. I have weird, disappropriationate thighs which will stick out whenever I wear jeans so I always go for khakis. Picture wise maybe I'll wait until friday to take a pic of myself and give everyone an idea what I look like.

as you mentioned you want a casual yet professional look.. try adding a v-neck sweater like this to your daily wear.. if you want to look a little more dressy, a tie is always a good option.. opt for a slim dark tie for a start.. but yeah do take a picture this friday and show us..

The first long sleeve shirt looks like a hoodie. You can get this kind of long sleeve non graphics print everywhere. But the hoodie style is kind of hard for this slim fit one. Most of the ones i saw are related to hip hop.

The second picture is a biker/ bomber jacket. Its a seasonal thing. Have saw before in ZARA. Cost more than RM400 in leather/ PU.

White would probably make homophobics cringe...I would say light earth tones, besides they go well with most colours...maybe black??? Depends on the pink though... hmm.gif

I just watched Confessions of a shopaholic and I'm like WTF.

2 standard tommy hillfiger polos - black and lapis blue
and 1 75ml calvin klien crave!!!!!!!

now if i have like RM400
shud i, go cuffz and buy 3 cuffed shirts - altho i have some in my closet STILL NOT WORN.
or
get a casual blazer from m&s - although i find it very difficult to wear a casual blazer - no occasion maybe? tongue.gif
or

what do u shoppaholic guys suggest i do with that RM400

how can i put it to good use in perspective of a guy that loves clothes

Added on July 16, 2009, 11:03 pmmy apologies for such a boring thread. but sometimes it just bothers me to wonder what shud i get. because sometimes when i have the money, i feel like spending it.

I have been following their current sales. The last I checked (yesterday), suits, jackets and pants are mostly on 30% discount. Shirts are at 30% off for the 1st & 2nd piece and 50% for 3 pieces.

If I am not mistaken, the company that owns the name Pierre Cardin in Malaysia actually bought the license from Pierre Cardin (the French designer).
Also, the licensee of Pierre Cardin footwear in Malaysia is ABC Footwear Sdn. Bhd. ([url=http://abcfootwear.net]http://abcfootwear.net[/url)] which manufactures the shoes in its Malaysian factory, thus explaining the low price.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. smile.gif

I remember seeing such similar headbands in Guardian / Watsons and also at the ladies / toiletry department in hypermarkets.

What's strange about finding headbands together with other toiletry products and other ladies' beauty accessories such as hairbands, nail buffer, hairclips and whatnot in the toiletry department of hypermarkets? unsure.gif That's how the stuffs are organized in my neighbourhood's Carrefour.

A google for the term "jersey headbands" revealed:

That is a feature on button-down collar shirts to hold the collar down (so they don't flap, curl or tilt around) instead of using collar stays. Note that this feature makes the shirt less formal.

Mate, if you're talking about designer brands like Calvin Klein, of course they're expensive.

Any specific type of pants you are looking for? If you're talking about jeans only, RM200 could get you jeans from Zara, Topman, Pull & Bear, Esprit, etc. Have a look around in the mall. smile.gif
Personally, I go for Zara and Topman since their cuttings fit me nicely. Different people might have different experience though.

Before that, what is your material of choice (cotton, linen, denim, etc), styling (jeans styling,chino,dress/formal) and cutting (straight, skinny, slim, boot) and most importantly your budget?

"The Group, which is listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia, is involved in manufacturing, marketing, retailing and distribution of high-fashion branded leatherwear, footwear, men's apparel and accessories.

In addition to its flagship fashion label of BONIA, the Group also behind the successful brands such as SEMBONIA and CARLO RINO and holds license for international labels, distributorship and dealership of leading brands such as ROBERTA DI CAMERINO, SANTA BARBARA POLO & RACQUET CLUB, AUSTIN REED, VALENTINO RUDY, CARVEN and SAVILE ROW."

i keep hearing you guys mentioning about valentino, but valentino is a really exclusive brand and compared to H.P (hush puppies?), so im assuming its a different valentino that you're referring to.. your question is to general and should have not been asked at all.. go try both on and see which is more comfortable yourself..

LoL

yes yes Valentino is a deisgner but the 1 in malaysia is definitely a fake 1

Theres even Emmer Zegna! For formal and casual wear! i think i saw it in Sunway Pyramid!

Diesel jeans in the States cost like rm 1k and above but the diesel in malaysia... no comment

haha i think that is about it! Heading to pavilion in 2 hours time! biggrin.gif

a really fitting athletic cut shirt can do that. it fits around your chest and tapers down the waist.

the shirt itself has to be really trim to your body.. but then again it will never be truly tucked in perfectly.. with day-to-day movement, there is bound to be a little bunch..

i avoid wearing white socks (especially the high ones) with jeans.. many ppl choose to do so but i find the look too "high school-ish".. for me if im wearing skinny jeans, i choose to go sockless or use ankle socks.. if im wearing my regular fit jeans, then i wear low cut socks, probably grey/navy in color..

I went to a warehouse sale in amcorp mall not long ago, and they had topman shirt (labeled blackened but i know it's topman since i own the same piece) with oddly a guess jeans label stitched.

That was uber weird.

Guys, is there a rule against wearing a cap (trucker or army style/castro cap) with a casual short sleeve or a casual long sleeve (sleeves folded up) ? How about wearing a cap with a long sleeve t shirt ?

Maybe its just me but I never seemed to wear those above combination before.

Quick question, especially for Jind who probably has every single issue of GQ magazine. I read one recently at my hair salon, and it showed the shades of blue colour that the formal shirts offer. There was one which looked like a semi translucent blue which was (if I remember correctly) voted the sexiest blue colour. Ice blue is what I have in mind. Should be in one of the magazines in this year. Is it possible you recall it, and if so, have post what sort of blue it is, and what brand it was associated with?

user posted image

Edit: I just included an image to show the sort of blue colour I was talking about. That looks quite close to what I was talking about, but still not quite so (should be a lighter shade of blue), even after googling as much as possible to come up with the exact match.

hmmm i really cant recall anything like that.. anyway there are so many types of different blue.. every manufacturer will not produce the exact blue which you saw from another shirt.. it really doesn't matter what is the exact shade of blue, don't confuse yourself this way.. as long as you know whether its a light/medium/dark shade then its fine and go for that..

Yea, exactly, and that's why I wanted to ask if you knew of that particular brand with that particular colour. Frankly speaking, I'm not a big fan of solid coloured shirt, but that just blew my mind away when I saw it, but unfortunately I can't for my life recall it. It's ok, thanks for replying and trying. I might just go back there at some point of time and dig through their rack.

to be honest, that shirt is a little tacky.

you can certainly pair it with a pair of jeans (preferably dark), but imo it will not go well with sneakers. best to have shoes.

the problem with that shirt for me is that it is too burberry.. it is like walking around with a dress shirt with the LV print all over.. looks tacky, if you get what i mean.. but i dont see any issue matching with sneakers..

when it comes to matching shoes, it mostly depends on your pants.. i usually go for a shoe which is slim and less bulky if im wearing skinny jeans, i leave my nike air force 1 out when im wearing skinnies.. if im wearing going for regular cut jeans, than bulkier shoes will match better, otherwise if i wear a slimmer shoe, it will look out of balance..

hey guys,

Need some fashion tips here. Having high school prom ball this week. Should I sport a formal suit with shirt and tie OR pull off a smart casual, that is, formal suit with shirt only?

I have a Bonia white short-sleeve shirt, Sub long-sleeve black shirt with vertical stripes of white and red, a formal black Padini suit.

hmmm dressing mature doesn't necessarily mean dressing old..

try on dark brown shoes for a change (wingtips maybe?).. they blend nicely with dark blue jeans..

round neck tee, dress shirt or polo-t..

you don't want a v-neck tee under your v-neck cardigan..

well, if your cardigan is striped then you may want to go for a plain shirt.. and vice versa..

try avoid wearing both pieces (cardigan and shirt) which have bold stripes together..

to be safe, cardigan should be darker than shirt.. i like matching colors like light pink and purple, light green and navy, light yellow and maroon.. light blue and dark red, etc etc.. the dark colored cardigan will give a pop to your outfit..

this is a superb look, pale green shirt and maroon cardigan:

user posted image

the stripe shirt is busy enough, therefore the cardigan is plain..

this is the kind of look i'd avoid:

user posted image

the blue checkered shirt by its own is great, but paired up with this striking yellow makes it too much..

Hey guys , which colour should i choose for my new sneakers?

A full white fred perry or a brown one with yellowish brownish laces.

Which is much better for matching?

hmmm i guess you could go with a light color polo-t with loafers/sneakers for a casual look..

alternatively you could pair up with a dress shirt, and brown oxfords/wingtips..

Hi guys,

any idea what kind of materials to look for in a slim fit pure white shirt?..
This is because most white shirts are quite transparent. Transparent in the sense that nips are showing.. sweat.gif

Or is it any brand which sells a white shirts with thicker fabrics?..

I have yet to find a place with nice and affordable sportscoats.
As for the colour, plain coloured ones are much easier to match, like black, grey, khaki or navy.

try lacoste. they have italian fit/slim fit. if you are in luck, there will be on sales too. last check normal retail price was about SGD 109 to 129 per piece.

or fred perry, made in japan version. if you check online website from us/uk, they always refer it as limited edition. cost slightly more, about SGD159 to SGD 209. asian fit, s size = xs uk/us size.

Hollywood glamour theme probably refers to what you normally see on the red carpet: usually black colour suit or tuxedo with a nice sheen on the fabric, a white dress shirt and a black tie. You can choose to accessorize with some unique items to give you some Hollywood celebrity quirkiness - like some funky pocket square, funny tie pin, a colourful watch or tie with unique prints. Well, up to you - you know how whacked up certain celebrities are dressed when strolling on the red carpet.

i am not saying japan version would be better but the cutting is more suitable for small size asian like me. in europe/us, japan version is more expensive and a lot of ppl are looking for it.

there are a few places in singapore where you can find fred perry. my fav is isetan, orchard as they store japan version fred perry. there is a boutique in ion orchard, cineleisure orchard and a fred perry counter in tangs, orchard.

other than that, there is a fred perry laurel at ann siang road (somewhere near china town) but the pricing is higher.

they position fred perry laurel as the premium product. as a matter of fact, the price is still considered 'alright'. wait till you see those special/limited edition or collaboration eg Fred Perry x CDG, Fred Perry x Raf Simons.

yes, the made in japan (MIJ) fred perry is around the price that i provided but if you are in luck, you may get some discount.

I've yet to see any cheap checkered sweaters as well but if there're any, my guess that it'd be from the likes of Topman or H&M. biggrin.gif

Or maybe from korean or some niche Japanese labels since checks are quite popular among punk and goth cultures.

I have one Fred Perry shirt (made in England).

I don't think its anything special. Better or equally good shirts can be obtained at British India. I would never pay retail price for that shirt.

I guessed you pay more for the fact that they used combed cotton.

Any info on the price range?

Don't want to pay much on tie... as long as the quality is okay and the price is not too high.

it stated that the opening will be towards the end of month. my personal suggestion is to go there during the singapore great sales, commencing from end of may/early june till july. you may get some discount during that season.

also, try to take a flight to singapore rather than by coach/car. you can even claim back the VAT at the airport. nowadays the flight ticket is getting more and more affordable it sometimes even cheaper than taking a coach.

I'll take note that...It'll be great to go there during the sales season.

I agree with you on traveling to Singapore by air. Nowadays, the low cost offers by flight companies especially Airasia have given opportunities for us to travel to Singapore easily.

i just discovered that taking a sewing lesson is cheap in kl,,,,we just got to pay exactly of how much the labour price of the clothes we're making

e.g,,,,the avg labour price for a dress shirt is rm70, so we pay rm70 to learn how sew it fr scratch to finish result,,,,
if we feel to repeat lesson just pay another rm70 and start making another shirt-----there's no time frame,,,its up to us---

Help! I need assistance from the sifus in sartorial elegance in finding out where i can get a black bow tie that is not clipped on.

My shopping expedition yesterday to the shopping malls and departmental stores resulted in tons of cheap looking clipped on bow ties which seem to lack that ol' skool class.

I'm looking for a nice cumberband as well. Any help on this would be appreciated!

Different people has different perception on suitability. If you ask me, personally I would rather wear a fabric or felt trilby indoors and wear the straw one outdoors instead.
But then again, if you really want to follow proper hat etiquette, it will be a serious pain as there are quite a lot of them - like the need to take off your hat in certain public places and also when you greet a lady. A handful of gents still follow those rules these days.

My advice is, as long as it looks good and you feel comfortable, by all means go ahead.

Of course! Go to their Pavilion outlet. The customisable models are their trademark, never-on-discount handsewn moccasin-toe boat shoe and their traditional 3-eye handsewn shoe with a tough rubber lug outsole (combat boot style sole).

user posted image

You can select a multitude of colours for the tongue, collar, sides and back. In addition you can add detail - monogram on tongue and collar, colour of stitching, laces, handsewn thread, hardware, midsole and outsole.

The additional charge is about RM100 and you'll need to wait for 2-3 weeks for your shoe to arrive from the Dominican Republic. The 3-eye my friend has is going strong after 6 years. thumbup.gif My brother's using the steel-toed safety version (only available at their Kuching outlet), and he says they are very comfy.

I'm not sure if BTS's FOS will be worth your time since the outlet is very small if compared to the likes of 1U's and Pyramid's. There are only very few stocks in the former's outlet.

I think the one at Lot 10 does but I am not able to confirm it definitively( There was some promotion for customized shoes there some while back ) The ones in Singapore does.

The funny thing is different branches provide different customization . The one in Raffles City does customization for the moccasins whereas the one in Vivo City does boots?

The last time I check prices were not too expensive . The moccasins were around $300 to $400 SIN & takes 6 to 8 weeks.

If you are referring to starch sprays such as Easy On (pictured below) for starching shirts, I have seen them at hypermarkets such as Carrefour in the laundry section together with detergents and bleaches.

casual leather belt....not fabric...what I heard is that for shortening they usually open up the stiches at the buckle area....cut off the excess and stich the belt back to the buckle...wonder who knows how to do that here....

Hey guys, is jeans shorts yay or nay? It's been a long time since I've chasing up the fashion. Hope you guys can give me some tips.

Oh yeah, I've saw one white shorts too. Thinking of getting the white one or the denim one. The white one would go well with shirts and glam look. The denim for that rugged look! Or should I get both? Hmm..

Go with the white shorts instead for more versatility.

No denim shorts. White shorts are very versatile but be careful where you sit, and how you eat. Avoid splashy food.

Hi all. I am from KL, but working in Indonesia now. I have actually registered in this forum in July 2008 and i forgot about it completely.

I have never been a fashion or stylo person, as my job never required me to dress up in any way. I wear coveralls all the time.

Now things have changed a little and i need to be wearing more appropriately for the office.

however, i am a long time shoe, watch and leather wear fan. i love most things leather. just never paid attention to clothes. all my jeans have always been Levi's, nothing fancy. I used to have a couple of LV wallets, but now just down to 1. LVs were cheap for me in the UK those days.

recently got some shoes for day to day office wear.

Since I am in Indonesia now, can anybody advise me on the places to shop for clothes and shoes?

hey guys

am wondering if there is any way to pull off the dandy style in malaysia. currently just going with checkered tee overalls, inner shirt and shorts.

i see some people wear tight short pants (that resemble working pants but the short version) and it looks...rather gay than dandy. Wonder if you guys have any input?

PLAID OVERALLS??

What are you? A poultry farmer? A lumberjack?

Added on September 1, 2010, 8:56 pmOkay you probably meant a plaid shirt over a t-shirt.

Yes, do that. Better if it's a white crew neck. But shorts? Doubt that'd work. Wear some dark jeans or chinos.

Why the inner shirt? Do you sweat alot? or do you leave ur shirt unbuttoned/half-buttoned?

I have those "gay" pants ur talking about. It might work for others, but it might not work for you, so it depends on the well-shapeness of ur behind. Overall I think shorts can work, but go 'sockless'.

Also, the design of your checks is important. There are lots of ugly checks out there. What checks are good is another post..

Safari pants? That's like cargo pants and its not dandy, its leaning towards sloppy. Get a pair of shorts that fits you well (just nice to hide what you want to hide) and hidden pockets, non-patched (Google patch pockets if unsure).

I don't know what a Malaysian dandy should look like..

Hey guys I have some general questions to ask here:

- I tried Levis 501, waist 30 and its too tight for me but while I tried another one which is 522 model slim straight, I could fit on it and still have some space as well.. what confuses me here is the measurement in cm tag in both the pair features the same measurement which is 76cm/80+(forgot the exact)
What is wrong here?

- Second question.. what is the difference between a levis slim straight and normal slim fit cuttings?

Thanks!

1. Different cutting (or brand) may have different true measurements. That's why I don't buy jeans online anymore.

2. I don't really know for sure. Slim straight means the cutting is slim, but the legs are straight. People usually go for tapered fit (the leg opening is slimmer than the thighs) because their thighs are usually bigger than their legs.

The best thing to do is, try them on, if you like them, buy them.

Hey guys, I have a newbie question. How do you actually fold your jeans up? I've tried folding it manually today and some pattern folding but I realise it won't hold and it bulges abit. Is it okay to use the iron? smile.gif

Kindly elaborate on your usage of 'metrosexual'. As far as I know, the term is coined to describe men who show strong concern for their appearances, as with some forumers who you can find in our facial and skincare threads. Their brands preferences can be very varied.

Unless of course you were referring to 'homosexuals'? I remember window-shopping with one of the forumers here and he told me that Philosophy-Men's clothings look gay.

Although the brand's style is not my cup of tea, I have to disagree with that statement since it was a matter of personal taste and it is understandable that Philosophy-Men's eclectic clothings do not appeal to most people due to the elaborate eye-catching details. But then again, a few of the plain ones look fine.

I saw some nice Puma & Adidas shoes but notice they have very narrow sole in the middle, similiar to driving shoes but the tag says Casual, would like to know will these sole be more difficult to walk, or less comfortable than the normal wide soles?

Ascot or cravat depending on which type you are referring to.

Make sure you look for self-tied ones. Ebay is a great place to start hunting - I managed to get a few vintage silk and cotton ascots for around RM50 each.

I'd prefer getting one locally. Importing would be my last resort.

So I'm in need of a pair of black dress shoes, but have absolutely no idea what to get. I'm a university student, hoping to be able to get some job interviews in the near future. Need a rough idea of what sort of style/brand.

Budget is 100USD. Although hopefully I can skimp even more and get it <60USD mellow.gif

Are those called oxfords? I'm pretty confused when it comes down to the classifications.

I've got a pair of brown ones, but I only have a black suit, so yeah laugh.gif BTW, can they touch water at all? I noticed that my brown one discolours upon contact with water.

Yes, those are cap-toe oxfords. And you definitely need a black pair for interviews.

You really can't skimp on this. $100 will not get you a good first pair.

Try asking in the "Shoes for (real) men" thread.

Even half decent ones (Loake, Cheaney, etc) will set you back around RM700.

Go to the outlets (like Allen Edmonds), get measured up (try them on), then try to look for bargains on ebay. Don't worry about slightly beat up shoes. They look better anyway. Just give it a good spit shine and it'll work for the moment.

Thanks a lot! Will look into it. How much below retail are used shoes usually sold for?

Heh, managed to find one very similar to the one Cheenoo posted last page - Allen Edmonds Park Avenue. Seems like the only difference is the lace.

I bought a pair of used Johnston and Murphy cordovan brogues for about $10 (excluding postage). Retail in Malaysia could be around RM800. But they are just J&Ms, not exactly Allen Edmonds. AEs go for around $100? Not too sure. Retail is $325 so you do the math.

The brogues were quite beat up, but they look great for casual purposes so I'm not complaining.

One thing about Allen Edmonds is they offer recrafting services where you pay a small sum for them to restore your shoes. Pay $120 and your shoes will look almost brand new.

1. Giordano, Uniqlo, Hang Ten, F.O.S, Brands Outlet, Tesco, Carrefour. They are not that hard to find - you seriously need to look around more.

2. Try Carrefour or Tesco. Not that easy to find but for a good reason because chest pockets on tees are rather gauche.

why would you show your belt?
IMO just make sure your tee isnt too long dragging behind your ass then should be ok

I tried google about it and got a mixed responses. Some people said is fine and some people have the same concern with you.

Maybe I will try it out later and see the result. If doesn't turn out well will go for a normal dress shirt.

What makes you think what you wear matters? An untucked shirt with jeans and converse? This is the non-dress, the most anonymous way to dress possible and 50% of the males in any shopping mall would be dressed like this (the other 50% will be in a Tshirt or polo).

Stupid.

Sounds like a disaster.

Admit it, you want to wear your new blazer but you are afraid people might ridicule you for being "too formal". So you want to try to dress it down with the t-shirt. Right? Am I right?

Instead of going for something totally casual like a t-shirt (which totally doesn't go with slacks and/or jacket), you can dress it down using cloth material and colour.
Like instead of a dress shirt, go for a oxford cloth button down.
Instead of a pair of trousers, go for coloured chinos.

The material of the blazer is also important. Since it's from Topman, I'm guessing polyester blend?

By the way, the black slacks is fine (you are talking about those polyester "smart" trousers right?) if you are selling insurance or MLM.

What's the point of the logo on the t-shirt if you are wearing a sweater over it anyway? What kind of sweater are you talking about?
By the way, when you wanna do layering, it's best to layer with plain items. No graphics, only patterns if you must.

Erm, its actually a red themed dinner, but instead of wearing normal red dress shirts and tie, I am thinking of wearing a (quite tight) red tshirt instead with a blazer. Budget problem and dont wanna waste too much $ on this since I already have the red tshirt and topman blazers.
About the black slacks, how about I change it to khakis colour long pants or jeans, I'm not sure how it's called (Levi's that type). Will it look too unformal for a dinner? Cause the theme is formal, but I don't think a lot of the participant will wear too formal like those going to prom.

For example, like this link below,

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/inde...ategoryID=55332

why is it "t-shirt (which totally doesn't go with slacks and/or jacket)"? just asking for opinion.

even if u want to wear a tshirt, a v-neck one would be better. no graphics of course

it's always better to be overdressed rather than under-dressed, my friend. take off the tie and unbutton the top button of the dress shirt if u dont want to look too formal. ever thought about red socks? biggrin.gif

Red gingham shirt, red stripe shirt, red tie...
The possibilities are endless.

Or shock all your friends and show up in burgundy trousers. biggrin.gif

PS: It just doesn't. You can wear t-shirts with shorts, chinos, jeans... but trousers? Blazers? Just no.

it is perfectly fine to wear a t-shirt under a blazer if you work in the porn or prostitution industry. heck, just wear a blazer with nothing underneath it but some thick gold chains.

I have a pair of grey suede moccasins (boat shoes). I don't have a good sense of fashion.

Been wondering what kind of pants that I can match with these shoes.

Dark blue jeans? (I think will look good)
Dark brown chinos/khakis?

Anyone can help? Thx

u could try looking for those items at our local pharmacy eg. Guardian or Watson.
Most compression shirts are for sports purposes but it just hugs your body, it doesn't compress the flabs.
Most golf shop sells 'em. Brands like Mizuno and Skins are the most common ones.

hey guys, I was just wondering what should shoes should I buy to match a black checkered shirt or a blue checkered shirt? it's for something casual, like going to malls. Prefer something cheap tho, will black sneakers do the job? black Converse.

then what about the pants? I'm pretty fat, 6'2 on 90kg sad.gif I would love to get a pair of dark denims from Levi. I'm quite fat, so yeah..don't plan to wear tapered, skinny or slims. So I'm planning to get either bootcut or loose, I do love bootcut a lot wub.gif

what do you think about that? does it match nicely?

6'2" at 90kg doesn't sound that fat to me. If you're getting converse, consider Jack Purcells. They are a lot more comfortable than the regular chuck taylors. I'm a bit sceptical that bootcut is the best look for you. Tried tapered before? tapered trousers looks good on most people, unless you're really obese. tapering doesn't mean it has to be tight, just means that the trousers follow the shape of your legs. Nobody's legs are straight cut anyway (same diameter from thigh to ankle).

Not really noticeable, but you still can see lumps of fat around my body tongue.gif

I'm looking for a dark jeans plus sneakers with white soles. So yeah, I think I'm going for the Jack Purcell canvas..hey, it's damn cheap too.
Okay, will try tapered jeans.

Thanks for the advice!

What is the best strategy to make purchase from overseas? I'm particularly interested to buy from http://www.revolveclothing.com

It provides free shipment but without in-transit tracking.
http://www.revolveclothing.com/InfoShipping.jsp

Is free shipping recommended or should I pay instead?

Does anyone know the difference between USPS Priority Mail International and USPS Global Express Mail other than faster delivery?
I suppose it does not have tracking too?

Please share your experience here!

Just go for the next belt hole, it doesn't look good like that. A long term solution will be to punch an additional hole.

That cardigan, looks like you didn't adjust it after wearing.

I guess I'm still weak at picking and choosing the right garments to suit me well. I always end up being a fashion crime, I think? I have a 34' waist, not so fair skin (i'm a mix chinese and malay), straight hair. Talking about hair, I always feel in-confident with my hairstyle, so guys please help me. Thank you.
