not a big fan on Tag, although I know it's very popular here - but this one looks beautiful.
actually, owning a Tag was my dream back in college - it was my brand of choice, but I never got around to owning one.

Before i fall for Tag ( guess mostly influence by the advertisement/Media) i was thinking of Oris BC4 or designer brand "Armani".
I did try to wear Omega Speedmaster/Seamaster planet ocean but it doesn't really suits me. It may due to the design similar to "swatch" (no offense, is just my opinion) or the colour tone are too mild for my liking.

I know Omega is a reputation brand and good resale value but i didn't fit me well. (Although cost slightly higher than Tag DD approx rm15k)
Guess i still like to own a ML Chrono it looks gorgeous on the display...ohh my, i realize getting luxury watches is a very exp hobby...

Btw last but not least, a wrist pic of mine to finish this post biggrin.gif

for me if I am spending above US$300 I would like a swiss/Jap/Russian made with their own movement.
those brand u mentioned, I rather spend on MK2 or what.

was looking at some of the post on Christopher Ward watches, their 7750 is decorated with blue screws

in his sentence, he said "it's just like owning another citizen. wise choice would be to save up more money and get a proper swiss watch, right?"
why is it not a wise choice to save up more money and get a proper japanese watch? Grand Seiko? Seiko Spring Drive? Seiko Spirit (>$300)

i don't see how a swiss watch is more "proper" than a japanese watch. japanese watches don't get enough respect. technically every Citizen and Seiko piece is in-house movement. lol.

i didn't say japanese watches can't be proper ones. i own a timex, a casio, a seiko and a citizen. i would like to add a swiss to my collection. i was looking at helios and helson, which use miyota, a citizen's movement. so indirectly, it's like owning another citizen. since i already own three japanese watches, i'd like to own a swiss watch with eta movement.

sure i'd like to own a grand seiko or a spring drive, maybe in future

now I understand what you meant. i apologize for taking your post out of context. you could get a german watch with swiss movement, stowa maybe? you get the goodness of a swiss movement and german finish, not to mention it is an independent watchmaker.

majority of the watch companies are owned by the 3 luxury brands.. Swatch, LVMH and Richemont. and as much heritage, history and pedigree the brands may have, we wouldn't know how much of it has been eroded by corporations whose sole purpose is profits.

depends on what its "worth" to you. to me its just a toy watch. mass marketed for the consumption of the masses. ODM is like Proton, Rolex is like Ferrari and Patek is Bugatti.

a funny quote i came across.. Rolex is the Rolex of watches.

no prob jason. i have now enough money to get an american watch with swiss movement, but i think i'll save more money till i have enough to give me more options be it german or swiss.

independent watchmaker eh? a friend advised me otherwise. find a brand that has an AD here; easier when it comes to warranty issue and spare parts. do u have experience getting a watch u bought online and not available here in malaysia serviced or repaired here?

by the way, anybody knows where to get a maratac strap here in KL/selangor?

ODM, too fancy for my taste.

correction: halios uses seiko's 6R15, not citizen's miyota

Fortis Square, might be slightly above your budget though.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=87436

Steinhart, a young and smaller brand, within your budget.

having local ADs and service centre is a plus, but that also depends on the quality and level of service. keep in mind just because they have a service centre here doesn't mean it will warrant good service. its just more convenient, but may not render the service you expect. i've read of horrible service experience by Tag Heuer. the Stowa for example, uses a common ETA2824 workhouse, and any knowledgeable watch repairmen would be able to service it.
