there are affordable watches in swiss movement. by that I meant around US$200 - US$400 range.
just need to know where to look.
eg
http://www.watchseller.com/watun500.html
www.pmwf.com
http://www.bernhardtwatch.com/officerswatch.html
brands such as entry level watches from hamilton, ESQ, Zodiac, Golana Swiss, Tissot would fit the above budget. oops.. lets not forget Swatch!

this is the watch i got my gf. seems to last about 8 hours as well. she seems to have lost the manual so there's nothing i can read. haven't tried to read up online yet; will do so when i get some free time.

but yeah, seems to last about 8 hours only. most mornings, she has to wind them up.

oops.. I forget about Choisi (see below link), and swiss army.
http://www.ocean7watchco.com/cs1/index.php...&category_id=17

BTW: in 2007 swiss voted to tighten the regulation on what it takes to be branded swiss made. today is at least 50% made in swiss, new regulation would be 80%. thank go it will not happen anytime soon.. it took 20yrs for Switzerland to arrive at this current rules. According to what I learnt, fastest it would take 8yrs for this to go into effect. when that happen.. U would see prices go up much higher.

hmmm...interesting development....., which of the value for money brands (the tissots, oris, hamilton, etc) will fulfil the 80% criteria then?

my guess it all of them, if they wanna continue putting swiss made on their watches!
Oops those looking at quartz its 60%.. company such as hamiltion, oris who outsource their case/leather overseas to the far east today.. I would expect a significant increase in prices when that happen.

I got me this

got this off a website:

Case - Black, ion-plated stainless steel, Ø 44 mm
Bezel - Rotatable, with minute markers
Dial - Black two-layer dial with cross pattern and luminous hands, non-reflecting mineral glass and sapphire coating, water resistance 10 ATM - Roman Movement -
Quartz Functions - Hour, minute, small-second, date display; Chronograph: stop-second, 60-minute, 12-hour display
Bracelet - Black, ion-plated stainless steel bracelet
Clasp - Butterfly clasp in black, ion-plated stainless steel

This watch, completely immersed in black, is absolutely eye-catching. The IP coating in matt black perfectly complements the design of the THOMAS SABO Watches Collection. The sword-shaped stop second hand is based on the jewellery collection.

It's thomas sabo. was teman-ing GF looking for jewellery, then saw the watch. It's not known for its watches, but at least not many people will wear it. Sales person also told me that only one piece per shop in malaysia. hope she not lying!! wub.gif
