"We are not competing against Sony or Microsoft. We are battling the indifference of people who have no interest in video games. And while a $250 sticker makes the Wii more of an impulse buy than even an iPod" - Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata

Nintendo Wii do make first good impression to the general public 1st time... its cheap, simple. fun, family-oriented console....spread word of mouth saying wii is next gen fun gaming...  no wonder they sold a lot n making profits due to innovative wiimote....

six years ago, nintendo was in trouble... now they are back on top...n prove the experts wrong...

Yep,
it surprised me also.
I thought Nintendo will go SEGA way end of this generation,
Wii will be like DreamCast.

But well.... i should not have listened to experts.

those experts warned nintendo that they might lose their business, direct competition against sony and microsoft... i mean coming up with a machine that has spec equally or better than ps3 and xbox360... gfx wise i guess...

they choose something else, innovative and something catchy... started with DS, then gone to create Wii...

hey... it works and they make lots of profits...

Seeing how sega was out of console business...

I bought my wii 1/2 year ago.
My wife never appeal to gaming until she pick up tennis, play it a lot and get bored of it. I never into sport games, so i get all the gems on wii, dont like SMG, never into action rpg so no for Zelda, even metroid bored me, i am not sure why. However, i had a great time with RE4 and Disaster Day of crisis recently. Not to mention the best ever nice looking FPS on the wii COD:WaW.

Last few weeks, i pick up Animal crossing, and my wife tell me to start growing up. I was sad, i never like the game, is too kiddy imho, but i wanted to try the so called the most anticipating game for the wii.

Later i pick up the new tales of symphonia, and my wife walk out from the bedroom and ask me why am i getting back to ps2 games? Well obviously is the graphic which made her think so, then again i was sad. The rpg really didnt appeal to me, but again, i really wanted to try the so call best rpg on the wii?

Lastly, i piss myself with all the sport games i can get from the wii (well ah hem ver of course). More than 1/2 of it are kinda stupid, the waggling are unbearable. The other are tiring, and some are left best to only play with buddies, r else, is boring.

I find that i surf the nintendo site or fansite most frequent to look up for upcoming games, news and etc. Sometimes, i think i should be playing games than surfing net, sometimes i feel lazy to start my wii as well. I scroll all my wii games, and i cant made up my mind which to play, not because is lot of them, but most of it just doesnt appeal to me.

That particular day, i decided to made a change, after playing over at my friends house on the ps3. I was jaw dropping, eye popping, i admit, i am a freaking graphic whore somehow, but the realistic graphic just sell me.

The same week, i finally get my ps3. Enjoy every sec of it. Lot of games i really wanted to play on it. Surviving horror fan here. And also like action games, fps, etc. I rarely go into the net now to update my self with any gaming news anymore, i just play games. Whenever i got time, i play my ps3.

My wife would actually sat down and watch me play, which never happen in the past, as the realistic graphic capture her attention a lot than waggling feast. A little annoying now as she would give lot of comment, but it does add much spices to our little small family. Hope to get LBP for her soon, once financially available.

So in nutshell, wii is great but more like a buddies games, you got lot of friends coming for a party, wii is absolutely a great console, but i doubt if my wii is going to start collecting dust now. One anticipating games now for wii for me is Monster huter tri, and that is.

Anyhow, find the true entertainment now and am happy with it.
Good luck to other out there. smile.gif

Yes, there are many ppl that is disappointed with Wii,
But majority of the Game-consumers this generation, are just like me - love the Wii, and no, Wii is not JUST a party machines to us.
There are already 40 Million people bought Wii,
and Wii continue to sell like MAD, 800,000 Wiis was sold on Black Friday week alone!

Don't tell me there 40 million party-animals, I don't see so many party goes on,
and don't tell me with all the millions SMG, Smash Bro, Mario Kart, Zelda.... that was sold,
and people STILL argued that Wii are collecting dusk, maybe the Wii that those complaining people owned are collecting dusk,
MOST Wii DON'T!
Look at the amount of games sold, look at the games chart, look at new games that comes,
It is obvious that most Wii don't collect dusk.
That Wii-collect-dusk argument just doesn't add up to me.

PS3, 360 and Wii are now "this gen".

Why is it so?
Why Wii is not this gen?
It is the "graphic argument" you dwell on?

I guess it boils down to time, as when the thread began, maybe these people missed it. But they, I have to say, didnt post extremely shallow points there, one was pointing out the obvious about next gen graphics and one was sharing his family story. Valid arguments I would say, but then again, we have different opinions. Personally for me, at this time, there is no need for me to get the Wii. Well, until Capcom finishes Monster Hunter 3, then Iwata is getting my money.

although many deny it, the age-old formula is still proved true..... exclusive rules, third-party ones mind you not no-brainers first/second-party titles which will nvr get ported. even on a platform which relies more on first-party than third-party like the wii.... thumbup.gif

Hahah then sorry for the family story.. not intentional but just to share something i went through...

And to neogeocdz, relax... no need to be so stress out. Everyone will had their own favourite console, but mostly, favourite games. THe games on the Wii might not appeal to some people, but they sold so well because the wii simply apply to the nintendo fans, the non gamers and also the casuals. Is a fantastic console i must admit if only the graphic and 3rd party dev support was better.

After all, its all come down to taste and preferance. I might get bored with ps3 too maybe in future, so who know? Is up to either sony, microsoft and nintendo to push their software to made their hardware interesting.

Numbers are not everything, its simply mean that everyone are buying it, either they play it or not is another issue. All matter is how the dev response and continue bringing fun games to us as user or player.

Nevermind the last or this or next generation, is the motion or HD generation now. Either way, go with whatever suit. smile.gif

Yes... smile.gif I admit that i stress out a bit. Looking at some uneducated posts makes me stress out. Ok ok, i relax... relax... relax... peace.... shalom... shanti....

Yes u r right. It all depend on personal taste, and i really don't see the point when ppl started to ridicules other's choices, using rude and mean words.

@snipersnake

I agree with u on Monster Hunter 3.
I don't agree with the "not shallow" agreement. I don't think someone that used words like "Wee Wee" (means penis in Australia & NZ), "kindergarden" or "ur console last gen", have any serious depth and reasons in them. Besides trying to --- Ridicule.

Give me a break.

I beg to differ, numbers do means a lot to gamers.

For example, to X360 owner who likes to play or wishes to play Final Fantasy 13 drool.gif do you think if X360 is selling badly in US of A, Square would even THINK of porting it to X360? Most of the gamers have no money and they cannot just buy PS3 for the sake of playing that game. See, by selling shedloads is does pays off to be X360 owner.

Another example, Monster Hunter 3. Why do you think it is coming out on Wii? Because Wii sales obliterate everyone else.

All this example are only applicable to Single Owner console. If you are rich and can own all three then sales figure does not matter. But for the other 95% of gamers who owns only 1 console at 1 time, then it means a lot to them.

Edited. Grammar and spelling

well honestly speaking from my side, I don't want to see nintendo go down. We freaking grew up with the games on their consoles! How sad would it be to see mario die off?

Sure he could go like sonic, but look at the hedgehog now. He even grew fur into some kinda freak, having affairs with every other console like some cheap whore.

Well i understand you perfectly well.
Sorry to mislead in the number part.
What i really meant is that numbers are not always the determining factors. Sure the number lead you to made the next decision on where to station your hardware. Like what you said about the FF13 on the X360, i always think Square are trying to maximize their profit, that is why they decided to bring it to the x360 as well. Just put it as an example, I am a supplier and my client, contractor A is tendering a job to an owner. When tendering, there might be contract A, B and C. If i only support contractor A and ignore contractor B and C, I might miss had lower my chances to get the job if happen that contractor B and C get the job. If i supported all of them, is going to be a win win situation. Same thing apply here, is Square choose to only support PS3, they might only get portion of profit but if square supported both, they can maximize the profit. So for me (humble opinion), think that no matter how much volume of x360 owner wanted FF13, porting seem to be the best choice, on the dev stand of view.

I was pretty sad with MH3 being ported to wii, when they suppose to announce it for ps3, is think its look pretty awesome in ps3, with the better networking system. However, for this, like you mentioned, number did play an important rules here. Capcom see the potential and go with it, but as in how good is going to sell, we will gonna wait and see. For once i tot DIsaster :DoC is going to sell well, but i guess not, further my believes that matured games doesnt really appeal to wii owner.

If not because Nintendo we would not be where we are as gamers.

1. They single handedly saved the gaming industry after the fall of the mighty Atari.

2. Because of them the Playstation came into existance. To sum it up, Ninty and Sony goes on joint venture to create an add on for SNES, Ninty pulled out of the deal and Sony continues with the disbanded project.

There are many ifs and buts the the above scenario like if not for Ninty someone else would start back the gaming industry. The fact that matters is Ninty does it and no one else.

I'm not a programmer but I would like to think there would be a cost attached to porting a game specifically created from ground up to a different console with a different program. Case in hand reprogram FF13 so that it would plays on X360.

Now this number is for example only. Let say it cost USD 5 mill to do this porting to X360. Square still have to calculate how many potential x360 customers that would buy the game. IF x360 only sells 5mill instead of 20mill, then the latter figure have more chances of being ported.

Edited, so if the cost outweight potential returns then it have no chance. Higher Sales means higher potential returns.

So which means number still means a lot to this developer.

One question, if the figure were to be reversed, PS3 sold more than X360, would Square have even touched X360? No.
