QUOTE(PaiGeWonG @ Dec 10 2008, 10:41 AM) QUOTE(ajis @ Dec 10 2008, 10:47 AM) QUOTE No big surprise. At E3 2008, Nintendo confirmed (very vaguely) that the Mario and Zelda teams had reassembled, but offered no further details. But when we sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto this week, he elaborated on situation, absolutely confirmed that a new Wii Zelda is underway, and suggested that it will see some fundamental changes. "The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away," Miyamoto said. "And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version." At GDC 2007, Eiji Aonuma gave a presentation on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At that time, he showed a brief snippet of an experimentation the Zelda team conducted -- it was Twilight Princess running in the first-person view. We asked Miyamoto if such a fundamental change could await players of Wii's next Zelda adventure. "I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas." http://wii.ign.com/articles/890/890200p1.html |

Nintendo is not only a soft spot to me, it is an important part of my childhood. So many fun and happy moment with friends and family were spent around the jumping plumber called Mario, or the green hero Link.
Mario is an icon for many gamers childhood, so I don't think it is wrong to demand some respect for an important cultural icon. To see someone labeling your childhood hero as "Wee Wee", "Kindergarden", "oh so last gen", is an insults. Nintendo as a company I must say not only survived on innovation, but the loyalty of Nintendo fans that they've created along the years. Nintendo fans are not some fanatics fanboys, but people that remember their childhood fondly, and that continue to have fun with DS & Wii. I think people that enter gaming in PS1 era will not have a soft spot for Nintendo. During PS1 era, even Sonic is not speeding on Saturn. Did we not respect their Ace Combat, Rayman, Snake? Did we said their games are utter bullshit? No we didn't, in fact I enjoy these games as well. So personally think this Wii bashing should stop, for goodness sake. So many fun and happy moment with friends and family were spent around the jumping plumber called Mario, or the green hero Link. Ahh.. this would explain why i feel slightly dissapointed with nintendo, i grow up with PS1, PS2 and now PS3 + Wii. Mario is an icon for many gamers childhood, so I don't think it is wrong to demand some respect for an important cultural icon. Edited for Grammar & Spelling I get wii first because its appeal to my wife at first, and i think the motion stuffs are pretty cool. Never hate or dislike the wii, i think is a potential console, just hope there will be more mature type of game. QUOTE(bluffy83 @ Dec 10 2008, 11:21 AM) Come on neogeocdz, just admit it. Dont have money to buy PS3 right? Err.... i think i bought my wii much expensive than the ps3 but that's 1/2 year ago thou. But i think a standard modded wii now cost around RM1200 with 1 additional controller (you will need it, that what wii are made of, offline multiplayer), as compare to a 40g PS3 nowadays around RM1300 max. So its not much different. I think neogeocdz was a great fan of nintendo, and he know what he enjoy in his gaming experience, and that all its matter to any gamers out there. Agrees with Corez and Gundam. Don't make wild accusations out of people without proper confirmation.
Neogeo fanboys FTW! Horrible OT. I'm still waiting for Zelda Wii to really come out. The ported one feels cramped in a SDTV. And didn't draw me in completely. |

seems Sega is giving Nintendo Wii a hand... a lot of new releases next year
last time it was rivalry, now its different story... In the past, Nintendo is all abt quality games... they still have those rigorous standards.. imho... today they still are ... |

Some people argue that Gamers are too emotionally engaged to their consoles. I would think it is rather natural, because Gaming is such a powerful hobby that get u involved emotionally.
Allow me to further my reasoning. Lets say you owned SNES during childhood, grown up on Mario Zelda & Street Fighters 2. These games not only engaged u for hours and hours, they also are something that u shares with cousins and classmates. It is a source of joy, when u scored an A on English, your daddy get u a Super Mario 3 as a rewards. Perhaps you have take it for granted when your grandma let you played your Mario 3 on TV, while she sacrifice her favourite TV shows. Years passed. You graduated, left your childhood classmates, cousins got married, neighbors migrated, your daddy mommy grew old, perhaps your grandma has since passed away. What is left of your childhood? Yes, that friend named Mario. Mario is still kicking Bowser's butt and saving princess Peach, continue to entertain perhaps your very own kid on Wii & DS. You know, when u see that Italian plumber jumping on Wii, you felt nostalgic, happy and entertained. It is very obvious that Mario games have always been beacon of video game entertainment, but besides being a good videogame, do u know why u love Mario? Because you are grateful, when u r still a little boy, ur daddy used the little money he earned and get u a SNES & Mario. Just to make u happy and entertained. He is now old, and he always wants the best for u, u felt grateful. Because you miss your grandma that have since passed away. Your grandma rather see you happy playing Mario, than let herself indulge in that TV show. She is now not around, and u always felt awkward during festive season without her. Because you remember your childhood classmates, the neighbour that has since migrated. You guys shared your SNES cartridges, and discuss ways to beat that Rockman final boss. They are bunch of fun guys, compare to the horrible colleagues you have now. So everytime u see Mario, Nintendo, Zelda.... u felt nostalgic and grateful, and u r glad coz your childhood hero is still kicking butt. When these bunch of people that called themselves "HD hardcore gamers", "Next Gen Gamers", "Defenders of TRUE games" came in and insults Nintendo, it is rather natural that people like me felt outrage. So for goodness sake, Stop all the insults. |

neogeocdz, calm down....
i do understand u abt us growing up in the era of Nintendo/Sega/Atari... those retro-years.. nostalgia These ppl u are talking abt, they probably not born yet... or not gamers at that specific time... so their insults are just thin air... also they prob don't know where nintendo is heading now... in business sense... glad that they still stay strong... |

I guess i been through the same senario as you do, i still remember playing mario and double dragon, also lot other 2D platform games like you do perhaps, and had lot of fun from it, serve as pretty good childhood memories. Not to say we cant stay as fun as our childhood memories served, but somehow, at least for me, i wanted something more than just mario. Somehow, i cant stand 2D platform at all, not even a moment, which probably answer why I dislike mario paper, although i think is a pretty good RPG. But with the growth of tech, somehow, it drawn me to demand for much realistic looking games, much matured, etc. Maybe is the growth of the technologies, or maybe people just changed, fan or no fan for me, is not relevant, cause i just want to play games, I can be fan for nintendo 15 years ago? But as long as their games still favor my taste and up to today tech growth and is fun to play, they will always get the support. Again just my 2cent |

Great post.
You really brought me back a lots of good childhood memories. Although I play Xbox360 more than my Wii now but I still preferred Wii to play those fun and great games all the time ie Mario, Zelda |

Again just my 2cent Let say you support a football club, currently they are winning trophies and everything else, suddenly they are not winning and going through a slump (like Liverpool who have not win the championship during the last 19 years). According to your analogy above, you and many others will desert your club and support the current winning team AMT like Man Utd. For Neogeo and myself, we will still support our football club which are going through the crisis because through they belong to a special place in our heart. Am I wrong to use this for example? |
