I thought you were going for the FZ28? It's a pretty decent camera

Yeah. I might very well have my mind set on the FZ28 already. Thanks for the advice. Whats a recommended price range? Is there any recommended shops?

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately as you know the LX3 does not have the zooming capabilities and the price is still too high for what it has to offer. But thats just me.
Anyone got a second opinion?
*
Price is still too high for what it has to offer? You should really get a hands-on of it. I don't think so many people will buy it (look at the LX3 thread in this forum) if it isn't on par with its price.

Thanks for the fast response. Between alpha 350 and canon 450 and 40D nikon
Which one should I go for.
I've made my mind for alpha 350. Any recommendation?
Which is more user friendly and cheaper when it comes to buying lense+must be good
Thanks  laugh.gif

I think you should go for the 40D. Or if you can, 50D.

Also you left out one choice - Nikon D80. A very desirable brand/model too.

a350 is hard when it comes to buying lenses. PQ.. you'll have to make the decision on that yourself because no one camera is best in all aspects. There are some that wins in MOST of the points though.

Nikon D60. Best value. Used set though..

If you want you might try to get a used 1000D set too.

In my opinion, it's going to be a hassle when you want to get lenses for a Sony.

The Nikon D40 is outdated, therefore I feel not worth the money you're paying.
Well, if you've made your mind up about getting the a350, by all means get it! smile.gif

With your budget I don't think you can get a new Nikon D60. So you might as well go for a new Sony A200.
The A200 is a very decent camera. With in-body stabilization, you get image stabilization for every lens that you use. smile.gif

PQ for the Canon is desirably better, but if you want style and average PQ, go for the Sony.

Canon or Nikon. EOS-1000D or the D60.

Both are recommended for your stated price range.

Nikon is more expensive because of many factors, most we do not know of. But Nikon DSLRs in general perform very well.

All DSLRs are expensive, and Nikon is quite moderately priced already. Same goes for Canon. These two are the recommended brands for each price range and they don't fail to amaze even with their entry-level cameras.

The same answer applies to this question. Why are Nike or Adidas products more expensive than other brands? It's not because their products are better, it might or might not be better than other brands. It's because Nikon is already an established brand in the market. Therefore their brand alone commands a higher price. You're actually paying for the brand when you purchase a Nikon or Canon camera.

There is no "best" brand in the market. Each brand has its own pros and cons. Canon and Nikon for example, have excellent reputation in their image quality, while Sony, Pentax and Olympus have in-body stabilization. Not that I'm not implying that Sony or Pentax or Olympus' image quality is bad.

For your budget, there are a few DSLRs in the current market, I'll mention a few that I know the price.
Canon 1000D - RM1.9k
Nikon D60 - RM1.8k
Sony A200 - RM1.5k
Sony A350 - RM1.9k

With their respective kit lens smile.gif
Actually you can get these prices at most camera shops. I'm only making a rough estimate. The prices shouldn't stray too far from the prices I quoted.
You just gotta ask around and find the shop that offers you the best deal smile.gif

The statement that lenses for Sony DSLRs is pure rubbish.
It's true that Sony's range of lenses is smaller than Canon or Nikon's, but Sony does still have a decent range, more than enough for beginners like us.

It isn't rubbish. When you want to upgrade to a full-frame DSLR you'll feel the pain because the a900 won't even go near the 1D/1Ds Mark III.

On the other hand, Canon EF lenses are used for every kind of body, whether cropped or not. Full-frame can use it and APS-C sensors can use it too.

Base your statements on a foundation before criticizing.

Sony also has their own lens lineup. Contrary to what you think that Sony is a newbie to the DSLR market, Sony has actually bought over Konica Minolta, and Sony DSLRs can be fitted with Konica Minolta lenses. This being said, it's good to note that Konica Minolta was already in the SLR market since 1985. And that's also 2 years before Canon introduced its EF mount system.
Along with Canon's EF-S lenses, Sony has it's DT lenses too for digital SLRs.
What I am basing my statements on are pure logic and facts, and from what I've been seeing, you've been rejecting anything that isn't a Canon or a Nikon.

I agree with joyy the facet that cause Sony actually bought over Konica Minolta cause i read it before some where. I think it just matter of time that Sony can catch up with the big name. Yet, in my opinion as Sony DSLR product line started to get to gain popularity same level with the big name, the price usually MIGHT tend to go up. For e.g. its laptop, it always expensive than equivalent brand such as Toshiba; BTW, this always happen due to branding which equal to today Canon and Nikon.

Anyway, what happen to Olympus? Why no1 talking abt it? it also in that imaging industry quite long time; establish since October 12, 1919(from Wikipedia). But it seem that Olympus is also new in DSLR?

I also thinking of getting a entry-level DSLR so I want to know all my available choice before I make my decision.

Although Olympus has been making cameras since 1919, it didn't start making autofocus SLR cameras until it launched the Four Thirds System, which was around 2003. So in this sense, Olympus is pretty new in the DSLR market.
Olympus does have some pretty decent entry level models, namely the E-420 and the E-520.
Since we're looking at entry level models, Pentax is a good brand too. Their entry level models include the K200D and the K100d.
