Import tax will be imposed if the value exceeds RM500, and how does gst work? Do you have any prove to back up this claim?

At present, imported goods are subject to import duty and sales tax unless exempted. Under GST, imported goods will still be subject to import duty but sales tax will be replaced with GST. As to whether the imported goods will be cheaper or more expensive will depend on a number of factors besides the GST rate.

Since import duty and sales tax will be imposed when value declaration is over RM500 currently, does it mean this also works on gst too? As long as your parcel from oversea doesn't tax by import duty and you don't have to pay gst as well?

As far as I experienced before, Computer Component or like my Laptop which I purchased overseas and shipped through DHL, I wasn't being charged but that was years ago. How about with the coming GST?

Since there isn't any import tax nor sales tax, probably no GST taxable as well?

these two docs should be very useful...

GST GUIDE ON IMPORT
http://gst.customs.gov.my/en/rg/SiteAssets..._pdf/Import.pdf

GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (RELIEF) ORDER 2014
http://www.gst.com.my/pdf/GOODS%20AND%20SE...RDER%202014.pdf

according to the GST GUIDE ON IMPORT

"Generally, all imported goods into Malaysia are subject to GST. However, certain goods imported by any person or class of persons are given relief from payment of GST upon importation under the Goods and Services
Tax (Relief) Order 20XX."

If you check the GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (RELIEF) ORDER 2014

Before 1 April 2015:
Any shipment above RM500 (include freight and insurance), will kena import duty and sales tax (if any). For computer stuffs, previously 0% duty and 0% sales tax, therefore no tax on computers regardless of the price.

After 1 April 2015:
Any shipment above RM500 (include freight and insurance), will kena import duty and GST (almost confirm kena). For computer stuffs, 0% duty and 6% GST, therefore price of computer stuffs will increase 6%.

As long as below RM500 (cost of goods + shipping + insurance), you don't get taxed.

if that rm475 includes shipping cost, etc, then yes, you're "safe".

From my experience your item will most probably be taxed if its a bulky item.

Small item(value exceed RM500) hardly get taxed as that doesnt attract them to take a look on the item itself.
