Noticed that there was alot of questions and no answers, i myself was tempted to ask a question heh, but decided to try and solve it.

http://tariff.customs.gov.my/
(go to this site and search your hs code)

How to get HS code?
http://www.foreign-trade.com/reference/hscode.htm
(look for your category and then can liao)

For people who want to know how to ship in stuff without tax, ask your shipper to ship in as electronic calculator (847010) or cash registers (847050) 0% import tax 0% sales duty =D Assuming they dont open your package lah.
*
What if they really do? We would get penalized right

Import tax will be imposed if the value exceeds RM500, and how does gst work? Do you have any prove to back up this claim?
*
http://www.treasury.gov.my/index.php?optio...id=2493&lang=en

At present, imported goods are subject to import duty and sales tax unless exempted. Under GST, imported goods will still be subject to import duty but sales tax will be replaced with GST. As to whether the imported goods will be cheaper or more expensive will depend on a number of factors besides the GST rate.

I applied epermit and got it within 2 business days. Could've gotten it in just one business day but I think the one who was responsible for my epermit was too lazy (I called them multiple times)

Hi all. Wanna ask, if buy toys (action figures) oversea and kena kastam tahan coz exceed RM 500, do I pay only 6% GST or 6% GST + 10% tax for toys?

I've been asking around and different ppl told different thing.
*
Do refer to this website. http://tariff.customs.gov.my/

If you search with the keyword "toys", you will find tariff code with the header 8504 and 9503 (I am not sure which one is action figures categorized under exactly, but should be either one). No import duty for those. So 6% GST should be imposed if you declared it correctly

hi people out there, wanna ask, if i import Dell Alienware Alpha (pc desktop console) from USA by the help of my fren. When it reaches Malaysia, will there be any duty or tax or gst imposed? how to calculate that?

In fact I already Google a lot and still can't get a correct answer. I am totally new and really intend to import this device from USA.

In terms of international shipping, what courier service company is recommended? Secure, safe and budget wise. Thanks.
*
Most of the computer parts do not have custom duty imposed (only GST) so I suppose full set desktops are the same.

Source: http://tariff.customs.gov.my/ header 8471 - Comprising in the same housing at least a central processing unit and an input and output unit, whether or not combined

You will want to consider DHL/FEDEX to ship it over, based on my past purchase DHL has been really swift in both custom clearance and delivery. Not to mention its superb phone support which caters to your request accordingly. Do note that DHL will charge additional RM50 handling for custom clearance and the freight charge is higher.

so u mean on top of the gst charged by our local custom, dhl or even fedex will most probably charge me additional rm50 for them. which is another rm50 add in?  shakehead.gif

how about computer hardware parts like ram, ssd? also just 6% of gst?
*
Yeah they call it custom clearing fee, or something like that. GST 6% + additional RM50. I don't know if FedEx has it imposed or not

It depends too. If you appointed yourself for custom clearance, or you refused to pay them, they wouldn't clear it for you

It will be taxed @ 6% GST. Don't forget to add on freight+insurance charges to the cost.

I want to buy smart phone from China less than rm500. Do I need to pay custom tax?
*
For phones you won't be taxed but you will be asked to provide SIRIM permit for custom clearance instead

I'm sorry but how do we calculate the charges? sweat.gif
*
If everything is declared correctly, you will be taxed at [Cost of item + Freight (shipping) charges + Insurance (sometimes insurance is included in the shipping charges already)] x 0.06 for GST.

QUOTE(LouisLord @ Dec 27 2015, 07:32 PM)
Huh, sirim permit? How? Before or after received my item?
*
They will ask you for SIRIM permit once the shipment arrives at custom and pending for clearance. You may however, apply SIRIM permit in advance, and provide them (the freight company) with whatever documents to proceed for custom clearance.

I'm talking about the usual procedure required in accordance to the law, if you know jack sparow you may be able to bypass SIRIM whistling.gif

Hi, i am buying 2nd hand children picture books (about 22 books) each 500g-1kg from various sellers at Amazon. Sending back to Malaysia via Comgateway's DHL. Total books price USD88(RM390) excluding shipping. Plus shipping will be over RM500. Will i get taxed or need to pay GST? Your kind help is very much appreciated!
*
Don't know bout tax on second hand books; on the other hand 22 books each weighing 500-1kg will cost you a bill shock on CGW shipping fees! shocking.gif

What about if it is just a regular watch? No gps or Bluetooth. Only pay gst? Who and where will it be collected?
*
Yes only pay GST. No import duty for regular watch smile.gif You appointed courier company would usually pay GST on behalf and charge you the amount they paid + service charge, unless you have chosen other option for custom clearance
