Is there a significant difference between TN panel and S-IPS panel? hmm.gif
*
LCD Panel Technology Type and Characteristics
===============================
TN film (Twisted Nematic)
- low manufacturing/retail costs
- restrictive viewing angles
- fast pixel response times
- dead pixels display white. Stuck pixels display RGB colors
- lower contrast levels means blacks are not as dark as VA based panels
- lower color reproduction

IPS (In Plane Switching)
- improved viewing angles over TN
- very good color reproduction
- slower pixel response times than TN
- dead pixels display black
- lower contrast levels means blacks are not as dark as VA based panels

Super-IPS (S-IPS)
- same as IPS except ...
- likely best color reproduction of all TFT
- less expensive to produce than IPS
- improved pixel response

VA (Vertical Alignment) Technologies
========================
MVA (Multidomain Vertical Alignment)
- compromise between TN and IPS technologies
- superior color reproduction over TN but not as good as IPS
- very good viewing angles but less than IPS
- higher contrast than TN or S-IPS means very good blacks
- dead pixels are black
- slower pixel response than TN or IPS
- details can be lost when directly viewing dark areas

Premium-MVA (P-MVA)
- same as MVA except ...
- "overdrive" technology increases pixel response but still slower than TN
- may have slightly degraded color reproduction due to "overdrive" process

PVA (Patterned VA)
- same as MVA except ...
- larger viewing angles
- higher contrast levels means darkest blacks

Super-PVA (S-PVA)
- same as PVA except ...
- “Magic Speed” (the Samsung equivalent to Overdrive) improves pixel response
- slightly improved color reproduction
- slightly improved viewing angles

Purchasing Considerations
=================
TN Gamers
Considered a "gamers" panel due to it's fast pixel response times which reduces trailing images know as "ghosting". However, this advantage has been reduced by new technologies to accelerate pixel response times in other panel types. Colors and contrast tend to be weak and blacks are not truly dark. Viewing angles are significantly limited. However, monitors based on this technology tend to be inexpensive.

IPS / S-IPS Graphics Work or Web Browsing
Considered to have the best color reproduction of all panel types, these panels are well suited for graphics work or web browsing. Pixel response time is also good but slower than the TN "gamers" panel. Contast and blacks are also less dark than VA panels but viewing angles are excellent.

* Note : Most of the LCD TVs are fall into this category with a lower resolution. cool2.gif

MVA / P-MVA / PVA / S-PVA Compromise for All-Around Use
These panels are a compromise between the fast pixel response times of the TN panel and the excellent color reproduction of the IPS panels. Contrast and blacks are best of all the panel types. Viewing angles are similar but slightly inferior to IPS.

Hope these help. Thanks. icon_rolleyes.gif

hhhmm...eh if ur LCD is already over 3 years and rosak liao , its possible to sent to PC shop for repair ? T.T

Not worthy to repair dude, my suggestion, go for new one. brows.gif
But depends on which part 'rosak'... if it's severe, then go for new one. If it's minor, ok lor to repair...

i m currently using 226BW , but i dun really like it coz the colour nt really good and well.. for me as long as the price <RM800 still considerable how is the 24" from Dell? the colour brightness and quality?
i very unhappy with my currently 226BW.. its start turning yellowish after 1 years ...
*
24" dell = S2409W? There's so many S2409W user here, u can read their review and opinion, and u can compare since u use 226BW.
Back to personal matters la, of coz I'll say Dell lo, since it's 24" laugh.gif bigger and cheaper.... Quality not that much difference.

I prefer ultra sharp 20", because the panel is better than ordinary TN panel
IIRC, 2009WFP using S-IPS panel.  smile.gif

2009WFP is TN but 2007FP is IPS

I wonder why this LCD is more expensive than S2409W? hmm.gif
I see that the brightness is 250 cd/m2; while S2409W is 300. Others almost the same? some more, it doesn't have HDMI..

Green eh? Why more expensive? Like this, not everyone can buy, then cannot go green la... laugh.gif

It is using LED as the backlighting compared to CCFL used in other LCD. LEDs Used lower power.

i think if after 3 years.. it is quite worth it already.. just use ur LCD "heavily"...

600 / 3 yrs = RM200 / year

200 / 365 days = RM0.5 / day

so u just spend 50cents per day to own the monitor.. it is cheaper than a piece of roti canai or a cup of teh tarik..  sweat.gif

so if can use more than 3 yrs.. i already very satisfy  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
some LCD are meant to last according to hours. not days. let's say 50000 hours. if one day u use 8 hours. so one year u use 2920 hours. so the lcd can last for around 17.123 years aporximately. but sometimes u use more than 8 hours. example 12 hours but sometimes u use less than 8 hours. in the end depends on ur usage.

Added on February 27, 2009, 11:15 amthis is for the acer monitor. but some company rarely display the total hours for a lcd to last. some maybe 10000 hours or 5000 hours. lol. we might not know the actual lifespan of the lcd.

I asked Dell's guy, they said because of the 'environmental friendly', G2410 is more expensive... So much for that factor tongue.gif

One thing I don't get an answer for, why S2409W doesn't stated its Dynamic COntrast Ratio? Dell doesn't answer me either; saying, "I'll give feedback to the team"

because dynamic contrast is just a marketting gimmick, they can put whatever numbers they want and there is no real way to measure it. samsung especially likes to come up ridiculous numbers, i guess with this new dell monitor they want to send the message "See we can make up numbers too." to samsung.

I am waiting for a non-TN 22"-24" FullHD LCD monitor.... being used to a MVA panel (VX2025wm), I dun think I can bear the problem of having a narrow viewing angle.

Hello, I had a problem with my lcd, when I turned it on, the power led blinking, but there's no display, I'm sure of its my LCD problem as i tested my CPU on friend's LCD and it works, so what could probably be the problem? I'm using Samsung 932BW
