hi im currently using 16gb us set using gevey sim. Whenever turn to airplane mode, it seems cant detect back the line when turn back to off airplane mode. Everytime it needs to restart only can get back the maxis signal. And by the way, i did test to change the carrier logo too and its seems cant while my other fren iphone which is S'pore set can change the carrier logo same step i have done. The airplane mode also works well whenever turn on n off, the signal can detect back.
Added on November 19, 2008, 11:11 pmIf there anyone knows way to change the carrier logo for Maxis using US set? This post has been edited by guoshyang: Nov 19 2008, 11:11 PM |

Hi,
Don't know if you guys discussed this yet. But I was wondering if anyone got any news about unlocking iPhone 3G from U.S? Any news from the dev team? |

Any news from the dev team? QUOTE Update warning! Now for something a bit more serious, we’ve explained about the pros and cons of applying Apple’s updates in the past and we’ve warned against the immediate installation of these updates without knowing what they do to your device. This is indeed true of the iPhone 3G’s upcoming 2.2 release. Installing ‘2.2’ straight away on the iPhone 3G using the iTunes auto-updater could affect your chances of any software unlock in the near future (should one be found and released), so when you see an update in iTunes await our instructions first! |

So basically what the dev team is saying;
"Don't update the firmware is Apple come up with new fw. Just wait for further instructions from the dev team" I'm still waiting. Wanna use iPhone in M'sia. I'm already using iPhone here in U.S. Waiting to unlock, hopefully. |

I'm using a sim adapter. So far no problems with Edge and telco signal unless I turn on/off Airplane mode. There are different versions of sim adapters available just avoid getting the older versions.
I don't think its good to comment about people who bought US sets. I most certainly was aware about the consequences when I bought it. I just had to test it for myself and found that only Airplane mode is not working. I bought the phone real cheap and I can live without 1 function, save about RM1.2k and wait for Dev team to find a way to unlock the phone. "FOR ME", the iPhone is not a gadget worth paying anything more than RM2k for. No bluetooth, lousy video recording, no flash on browser, can't change battery, no video call, no MMS, lousy camera and a few more other stuff. Yet is fun, sleek, stylish and a nice tool to show off with. |

I don't know if I'm speaking on behalf of those who opted to get full unlocked sets, but personally, it is about those who WHINED when their US sets coupled with whatever sim-adapter brands fails on them, and then cry like babies complaining in the forum. I have no problems with users like you who KNOWS what you are getting into, at the very least if glitches and problems do happen on your unit, you know that was part and parcel of using a US set with sim adapter, isn't it? I don't think its good to comment about people who bought US sets. I most certainly was aware about the consequences when I bought it. Come on, you paid cheaper for your iPhones and expect it to work identically as those who had to save up and buy fully unlocked ones for their peace of mind? So there IS a reason why folks here grew tired of those with US sets + sim adapters, but for users like you, I personally have no issues with. It is those who expect perfection when they did not pay for it, that I have problems with. Cheers! |

Alright cool. So let me get this straight. Reading the 2 posts after mine, can I assume that this place isn't the right place for people with locked 3G phones to get help?

Reading the 2 posts after mine, can I assume that this place isn't the right place for people with locked 3G phones to get help? Majority of 3G iPhone owners in this forum owns an unlocked 3G iPhone. Is not that we don't wanna help. Is difficult for us to help troubleshoot problems faced by lock 3G iPhones users as we don't own a locked 3G unit. So, is tough to help and only those who use these locked units will have the understanding of how to work out the glitches/problems faced.
