This thread is US 3G so its locked to ATT.
You will get unsupported sim warning.

I have US 3g, still cannot unlock for now.

3g owners, when new firmware comes out, u have 2 choices

1. update via itunes which means your modem firmware also gets updated
2. wait for pwnagetool and create a custom firmware so u maintain your old modem firmware.

whats the point of maintaining your old modem firmware ?
the iphone dev team is currently only looking for exploits for the first version of the modem firmware which is 1.45.00
so, if u ter-upgrade like me to 1.48.00, u might have to wait longer than expected to unlock IF there is one because it will be based on the original FW 2.0 modem firmware.

just to clear things up since people keep missing it
btw, restore, everything goes back to factory setting. So, if i were you and JB, always remember to install bosspref and disable apple's app killswitch

Iphone 3G 16GB - US Model. - Im currently using the model with a turbo sim.

The iphone been jailbreak using quikpwnd. and im using turbo sim fro network unlocker.

So far the phone serve me well. im not sure how long will it be. But as for 3G reception issue
and also other like call drop i do experience it since the 1st model of 2G 8GB model.
The network is up and down via maxis with iphone.

When ever i cant detect the 3G or Edge or GPRS, i just restart it and it will detect it again.
As far im concern - the 3G network signal dropping is still the problem face by other official
Carrier Unlock user..

All i can say - just pray for the dev team to come up soft lock for iphone 3G US Model.

Thanks for the info. Hence now that I had reset the phone, it had gone back to factory settings. Is there now anyway to activate the phone? I do have the Turbo sim, but the iTune can;t seem to recognise my SIM (attacehd with the turbosim).

itunes will say "Unknown number"
thats normal cause you are using turbo sim to trick the phone system.
to activate, run quickpwn

So the 3G call dropping & weak signal strength issue happens with other cell phones too? Meaning if I use N95, I might also experience fluctuating 3G network signals. unsure.gif

So you're saying it might not purely because of iPhone 3G but the the carrier's network problem. unsure.gif

Activate what?

quickpwn is to jailbreak the phone so I can install apps 7 customize my iPhone's homepage right? unsure.gif

i think it is not the right place for u to ask price for unlocked version of iphone 3G since this is US version thread. Go to garagesale/handphoneandrelatedaccessories and search for iphone. Then u can compare the price over there. Gud luck for your search.

Issue solved after placing an AT & T Sim card to activate the phone. After activation, then only you can use your existing Sim with Adapter.

Anyways, with all the hassle, had bought another set from HK. Immediate use after own SIM installed and activated. ....

congratulations then.

however, less fortunate individuals with AT & T units have yet to find the correct recipe of SIM card adapters to match their providers. hence it results in frequent network lost, call failures and not to mention, failed mobile internet browsing.

No lar... my fren bought the AT & T set from me, he don't mind the Gevey Sim adapter cause it is cheaper... sold at RM2300 only (bought at RM2600 including the adapter).

Then I bought myself the HK unlocked set at RM2900(HKD6200). Works like a charm so far.... No regret spending for the unlocked set.

To add to rjmm2's statement, I do agree. After reading all these threads bout Sim adapters having issues, I must say the Gevey adapter should be the best so far as I too was using it without any issues. Only my hand gatal went to reset the phone, hence needing to use a AT & T sim card to re-activate it (first time only). Thanks to my visiting fren from US, good timing.

Anyway, I am enjoying my iPhone very much now.... great gadget.

I'll be going over to US soon and is thinking of getting an Iphone. Is it better to get an unlocked set (without contract attached to AT&T) ? How much would it be? Can I use it with Maxis sim card?

i'll break it down for u ya..
unless u r planning 2 migrate 2 usa, it is not advisable to get an iphone frm usa or any locked set..
it cud be cheap..but u wud hv 2 compromise on lots of tings...
my advice, go 2 usa, hv fun..enjoy ur holiday, n get it frm spore or frm certain ppl in gs

Actually, I do agree that it is better to get an official unlock iPhone if possible or budget permits. Less hassle.

All iPhone from US are locked and do not believe AT & T provides unlocking services.

precisely. at the rate the problem that a locked 3G unit mounts, i reckon it will even be better to get the first gen iphone. at least you get to utilise the mobile internet service etc
