care to share whats on your wrist?

well U should say generally RM10K watches uses ETA base movement. Some brands do a little more, maybe add a module, change the design a little or finishing the movement etc. depending on the watch U get even ETA do come in several grades. that dude regulating the watch play an impt role too. COSC certified watches such as Rolex, those movement are certified b4 assembling it in a watch! Cock up dude putting it together may make a small mistake and U are getting a watch that is not running in COSC spec. Dec Issue watch time just featured a very expensive watch that just happen to fall in this Category. even if u send it in, U wouldn't know if your watch is running within COSC spec.

better watch case does not mean the material it is made in, just read from a different forum a gal's Rolex rusted! Rolex claims they use better steel and still can rust from her sweat! thats just insane! sweat more corrosive than sea water! anyway, the rust found is confirm by Rolex authorize service centre.

the extra $$ spend maybe the finishing of the case. ppl say pouring molten steel into a mold isn't as good as crafting it out of a solid steel block. whats the diff I don't know the physics of it. finishing of the links or the quality of the leather. all said and done, most of the $$ are indeed paid into other area of the biz, advertising for an example.

I do have a few humble swiss made watch (antique and contemporary) to simply put it tongue.gif

Do agree on the point of additional module and finishing on the ETA but that will be very minimal cost (with minimal improvement or aesthetic enhancement) compared to the inflated cost if you notice most of the time.

Scientifically stainless can rust though much more durable than other steel, so it's true that Rolex (or any stainless steel watch) can rust especially at the backcase. Sometimes you wouldn't notice until one fine day when you open the backcase and the rust is hidden in the thread area.

well the lady's rolex rusted on the bezel, and its not a vintage watch just around 3yrs old.

I meant which watch did U sent in for service?

retail prices are retail prices. how many ppl buy at retail today. know your source and U get watches at huge discounts over retails. buy from AD, U need to pay the cost of the warranty too. when AD can offer steep discounts to grey market deals U know the base price watch manufacturer sold to retail shops isnt that high. Not in this industry so not sure the relationship how those $$ work out.

finishing of the movement in swiss, where cost of labour is high.. adding of additional module.. some are inhouse.. R&D cost do add up. over inflated cost. No sure why to tell. CEO, VP etc all want big pay checks, marketing often cost alot of $$$. although whats goes inside maybe small compared to these.
as for aesthetic enhancement such as blue screws they are very costly to make. from what I read the yield is around 10%. so tons of rejects and waste.

I really like the look of the Seiko Discus. Very unique. Looks like an Angular Momentum watch I once saw. smile.gif

You will lose a lot of money if you sell it back through second hand watch dealer. Maybe you could fetch a little bit higher through personal sales. i.e. Ebay, Lowyat Net, Lelong if you found a willing buyer.

Whether you like it or not, only Rolex (and maybe few other big manafucturers) hold its value, at least in South East Asia market is concern.

Short answer : No.

Long answer : Watches depreciate once it leaves the watch boutique. Some by 70%. Others less. Even Rolex depreciates in value over time, whether you like it or not. With watches, you will have to factor in the holding cost and inflation. Holding cost pretty much includes overhauls, maintenance (every 3-5 years), oiling etc. The inflation rate however is more abstract. Remember the 80s where things were a lot cheaper and RM500 seems like a lot of money. That's inflation. IF the Rolex Datejust that you bought during the 80s cost you RM5000 ringgit then, the actual cost of that thing is close to RM15,000 now (at the 'official' inflation rate of 5%. In reality it is more like 8% per annum). Which coincidentally is the official selling (MSRP) price of a Datejust in Steel.

What you get however is the satisfaction from wearing the watch for 20 odd years. smile.gif

hi guys, anyone into Panerai watches?
I'm quite an Omega fan but just recently find Panerai quite interesting...

i own Omega Seamaster 300m Quartz (mid-size) & Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (Big size)

my next consideration would be Panerai Base Logo (PAM00000)
what do you guys think?

Panerai's are ok. But do be aware that they are using heavily modified Unitas and ETA movements. Personally, I won't pay Rolex prices for a non-manufacture timepiece. But that's just me...

Very true friedricetheman, but is all down to own preference. They do have their own in-house movement, but it cost a bomb. whistling.gif

ora-ito, 000 is nice and with a logo on the dial. Get it by all means if you like it thumbup.gif
