QUOTE(fruitie @ Apr 26 2009, 06:20 AM)
Just out of curiosity, I don't rare cats but there are a few stray cats loitering around the backyard of my house... So, there is one female cat, I call her "Gemuk" due to her big fatty size. laugh.gif Oh my, she can get pregnant all year long, as if right after one labour, she will go mating again. sweat.gif

OK, so one time this Gemuk gave birth to three kittens, usually she chooses my house to be her "labour zone". sweat.gif The weird thing is she only took care for 1 of her kittens and left the other two survived on their own. sweat.gif doh.gif

So these two little kittens were just 1-2 days old, she didn't feed them with milk and etc. but only cared for another one kitten. She always brought the kitten whenever she went but not these two. rclxub.gif These two poor kittens were seen crawling slowly out from the "zone", as if looking for their mum to feed them milk. When I noticed about this, it was too late already, they were exposed to the sun for a long time and I believe they died because of hunger and thirst. cry.gif

Then we had no choice but to dispose these two kittens away, strangely this Gemuk didn't care at all, she didn't show any sign of looking for her kids.

I thought by natural, she should love her kids right? What is this man? She only took care 1 out of 3 and left the other two died? mad.gif

Can someone explain to me, what kind of phenomena is this? Oh ya, after every labour she always takes care of all her kids except for that time.
*
First of all, just to let you know, a female cat can go ON HEAT and Pregnant 24hours after labor. Amazing and weird right eheheh, they sure do have a faster hormone to mate again.

Secondly, if a mother knew she have unhealthy kitten, she will reject them. this is normal. a mother know who is healthy, who is gonna die. So she will love the healthy one only and reject the unhealthy one. it happens all the time. so nothing to worry. and she loves all her kittens, but then, she lost hopes to the unhealthy one, so she leave them die by them self.

last time my case, the vet let me look the skin under the microscope, and i can see moving things.

also checking for ringworm, vet will ultra blue (this thing look similar to check fake money)... vet will pun the blue bright light on the skin. if there is florescent blue, means ringworm is there.

that's how i get to know about ringworm although i'm not a vet LOL.
*
Yes. I think that should be the proper way to let the owner know their cat's problem. But this vet doesn't do that, plus i forgot to ask... sad.gif
Now my cat eat the the medicine 1 week already, just check the skin and found still same as previous. Means no getting better and worst. Just remain. I just take the bath for him. The fleas was gone. Just left skin problem now... Hopefully he can recover soon...

it took times to grow back the fur and recover the skin.

and you need to make sure your cat has ringworm only, or parasites allergy. some cats has this thing call parasites allergy, which means they are allergy to this small creatures like mites, fleas, lice, etc. some allergy to food type. both of this, need to check via blood samples if your cat has any.

i'm pretty sure your cat will recover soon... bath frequently with the determines shampoo vet provided. if head cone is needed, put it all time. this is to prevent the cat from licking the fur. the more it lick, the longest period the fur to recover.

Hi Annetize,

Hi, I am currently a user for Blackwood as well as a distributor. I help friends to buy blackwood at a cheaper price. thumbup.gif

Before this, I have been using RC and Iams. However because of price increase I was recommended to use Blackwood by a friend. Blackwood is a premium cat food from US. Since using Blackwood for almost a year now, my cats have put on weight, shed less fur and their poo poo is very well formed and has less odour.

For your information, a breeder pack of 24kg cost RM220.00 however if you pool with a group of friends and share it you can buy 1 kg for as low as RM9.20! brows.gif That's really cheap compared to the market. Blackwood has also packaging in 7.5kg that will cost you RM90.00.

If you are interested, do PM me and I will give you a few packets of samples to try. thumbup.gif

Go to a good pet store. There should be selling catnip. It's kind of leaves cats love to smell, a kind of happy drug for them. I bought a lot of them from Ikano Pet Safari.

Be warned though. Not all cats are influenced by catnip. My Kiki simply ignores it (a great waste of money I think). smile.gif

tail, private part, and back of the 2 legs is the most favorite part for ringworm or any fungal...

you better bring to vet, for check up again.

if you have other cats, bring them too... because some cat will not show any fur drops although they bring the same symptom. if you only bring 1 cat, but not the other cat, the infection will never stop. it will keep continue.

how many times you clean your house, vacuum and mop the floor? you need to do this all the time.

btw, last time, my vet always have next appointment. didn't your vet tell you about the next visit for further check up?

i only have 1 cat (indoor).
Normally i clean my house at 1 week once to 2 week once ..(i know not enough, but too busy on my work...)
Yes. My next appointment is on this coming saturday. (After 2 weeks from my 1st visit)
One thing curious me is how come i already fully follow the instruction (like eat 1 tablet a day, take bath a week once with anti-fungal shampoo), the problem still there? is something wrong at my side to take care of my cat? hmm.gif

it takes time my friend. especially to grow back the fur. i cannot expect, by eatingthe pills and anti fungal shampoo will grow back the fur within 2 weeks. fur grow back can take up to 3-4 months.

the more they lick it, the slow fur will grow. if your cat still licking and biting his body because of itchy (cause from the fungal), then the slower fur grow.

shampoo, my vet told me last time, AT LEAST minimum 2 times a week bath.

and the tablet, 1 morning, 1 night, after food. since she is underweight, so she took only 1/8 part of the table every 12 hours (thats mean 24 hours 2 times morning and night).

so later, when you go to the vet, the vet will check again, to see if the fungal GONE or still there. if it is gone, then you just need to wait for the fur to grow.

again, no magical moment will happen, like fur grow within 2 weeks tongue.gif

it takes time.. like you shave your head to botak, it takes time to grow, it won't grow that fast.

How to recognize female cat has been spayed or not?

1) Ask the previous owner, the owner should know about it. If the cat is feral cat who involve with TNR program (Trap n Release), the ears will be clip - so you will see one short ear.

2) Check her belly if there it is recently shaved. you can see this clearly. It will visibly shorter than other part of the body furs.

3) Try look for scar on the belly. Unfortunately, this scar becomes very difficult to detect if the cat has had time to heal or if her fur is long and dark. Sometimes it disappears entirely.

4) Keep her atleast 1 month, and see if she go ON HEAT. Spayed female won't be on heat.

5) Take her to a vet. If worst comes to worst, you can always take your cat to the vet or pet shelter to determine if she is spayed. They see cats every day and have a better chance of seeing the scar.

----

Basically its very hard to determine what is the maximum age for a female cat can get pregnant.

Harm or without harm can happened anytime at any age. even 1 year old female cat can go to failure to delivery the kittens. so its unpredictable. different cat, different strength.

You will only scared if you have the intention to mate your female cat. that is the RISK all owner should face.

Conclusion, failure to delivery kitten and death can happen at any age. (Same like human).

So don't get the female cat pregnant if you love them. For the sake of LOVE and your $$. You end up paying up to RM1000+ to safe the mother lives if anything go wrong. Else just let them died in peace - Owner will be 100% blame for this.
