wonder if there's any truth to it?

None whatsoever. I'd rather buy and grill my own meat than eat at the ship.

No offense but if you abstained fr Cow, does it matters who has the best steak?

The Ship sucked so badly, I couldn't even believe it.

So far Sage has the best IMO. Pricey, though.

I think doing it yourself is probably the best way to do it. Steak is easy enough to get right IMO, just get a simple cast iron grill and a good source of meat.

Damn, now I want steak for breakfast wink.gif

back in the states where the 'grill culture' is a lot bigger I used to use an actual grill, but here in malaysia I just use something like this in the picture.

season with salt and pepper, grill on high, high heat, use the 'thumb meat' test to see how done the steak is. problem is inconsistency, because unlike restaurants, i only do this once in a blue moon and got no consistent source of good meat, so sometimes it's good sometimes it kinda sucks. lol.

Grilling a steak is not as easy as it looks. First of all layman can really get to buy good cuts of meat as we really don't have specialised butchers in our country. The only one I can think of is in Bangsar Shopping and it is also pricey. You can try Lee's Frozen if you going to have a party as they only sell the whole piece, usually around 4 kgs. Ask them to cut into hotel sizes (230 gms per serving) you get roughly about 9 pieces. Only sizes as such can you get chunky and thick. Less than this your steak is thin.

Then there is the aging process. Aging is the most important process for tenderising! You can age for 2 days but then it kind of tedious to plan your meal 2 or 3 days in advance.

Lastly the heat! It must be very high heat to seal off the juices inside the cut. That's why telling some food eatery rare, medium is a waste of time because their cuts are so thin, the moment the meat hits the pan it is already cooked! Still, my favourite cut is still ribeye or if someone can't make a choice, try T-bone where there are ribeye on one side and sirloin on the opposite side of the bone.

STEAKS, STEAKS I love them but really getting expensive! tongue.gif

Hi Guys,
I went to Maredo's tonight and ordered one ribeye and one T-bone steak. Both were ok, and I ended up paying RM 248 including one small mineral water bottle (500ml) for RM 7!!
Meat was regular... so far my rating would be

1. Alexis (i frequent Garden's branch) and their steaks are soft and yummy
2. Tony Roma's Wagyu (their normal steaks are tough)
3. Mardo's (one thing is that i was absolutely full after i finished eating)

Victoria Station and Ship both SUCK!!! I have been to both once and I never want to go there ever again... If I want cheap steak I usually go to Station One in Puchong and eat for RM 18++ ribeye hehehe smile.gif

By the way, I compiled this long list that i will try:

Coliseum Cafe
Angus Steak House - Pavillion
Maredo Argentenian Steak House - Bukit Bintang
Eagle's Nest at Damansara Perdana
Castell, Rothman Round About
Jake's near Victoria Station at Damansara / also at Starhill
Japanese Steak House at Pavillion
Caliente at SUnway Damansara
Maria's @ Damansara Perdana
Gaucho Grill
Kirishima Japanese Restaurant
Qba at Westin
Nero Vivo on Jalan Ceylon
Chiaroscuro at Jalan Bedara
La Terrasse French Restaurant on Jalan Berangan
Bruno at Jaya 33
Pannaz
http://meatworks.com.my/
Las Varcas Kelana Jaya
http://pannaz.com.my/bbq-restaurant-menu/main-course.html
Daily Grind at Bangsar Village
Monte's in Bangsar
Castell Steak House at Section 16
Pregos
Mandarin Grill (expensive)
Sage

Looking for a good steak house to bring my gf coming week.

Budget should be +- RM300. Any place to recommend with good atmosphere?

Don't have the starwood card, previously plan to get one but seldom went out to have a nice dinner with gf. Busy with work, always outstation.

So far I reckon Lafite's Wagyu Ribeye is the best. Around RM200 per piece(pretty huge portion)
