err, this restaurant? Seems like only sells fish head noodles lol.

For steaks ... for me i don't bother with the so-called middle range stuff (e.g. the ship, VS, etc). For the price you pay imo the quality is not worth it. either splurge on prime/angus/etc once in a blue moon, or just whack some cheap rm15 steak at some random place just to delay the steak cravings from my stomach ;x

Who the heck was it who recommended Rendezvous Steak Garden???

Based on that recommendation I went there for dinner. Here is a picture that best sums up what I think of the steak:

X does NOT mark the spot

That's right. It sucked so bad I didn't even bother finishing it, and instead cut it into an "X."

Gita Bayu is 5 minutes drive from my house! But from the few times I've gone there the guards will insist on calling up the host house for their OK before letting you in leh. Will they let me in if I say I just want to go to the clubhouse to eat?

Wow you guys really know how to enjoy your steak.
For me, TheShip is good enough. Hehe..

It's cos you haven't had anything better. If you're not that willing to spend huge amounts on food, then please don't ever try any of the expensive options in this thread, cos once you do you'll be hooked and won't ever be satisfied for rm40 steaks.

QUOTE(Monya Meow Meow @ Mar 10 2009, 12:27 PM)
After all these years of steak eating, nothing beats the steak at The Ship.
It is just wonderful and for a very reasonable price too  smile.gif

Eh everyone has their own tastes I guess, but The Ship steaks are pretty mediocre imo.

I don't want to sound like a condescending ass, but steaks are different from other food. A cheap italian place has the potential to surprise you with good pasta, but cheap steaks are never good because you can't get high quality meat at low prices.

Have you been to Jake's in Damansara? Wondering if the StarHill is better/worse/more expensive/etc. I recall having normal non-premium rib eye in the Damansara branch already rm1xx. rm381 for 2 is already nudging prime steakhouse prices, no?

Mm I dropped by Angus House over the weekend. I think it's actually pretty good value for money. 300gm Rib Eye is $120 for a set that includes starter, soup, salad, bread, dessert. I had my rib eye medium rare and it was awesome. The gravy might be hit-or-miss for some though, cos it's very Japanese (if you've ever eaten those sushi salads at jap places, the gravy tastes like the salad dressing).

No comment on the wagyu though, sirloin is $400 for 300gm @_@ ... a little out of my range.

is starwood card transferrable?

anyone can loan me the card? lol.. wanted to try PRIME for a long time...

Just purchase it lah. It's actually damn worth. rm620, comes with 1 night stay and 3x free dining vouchers for two --> already cover the cost of the card. Then one whole year of half price food.

Was thinking of going prime this saturday, wonder if they gonna do only mother's day things. Must call up and ask! Need to take my other half there make her happy a bit before I let her know I got an offer to go work long term in HK lol.

@razor > no offense, but this thread is a "steak" thread, and in your restaurant review ... you didn't actually try the steak? hehe.

rm167/100gm - what kind and cut of meat is this? because this *does* seem bloody expensive. that's rm360+/220gm for which it's already the equivalent pricing of Master Kobe sirloin at Prime (undiscounted).

for me, Maria's place is in Damansara is value for money.

uh ... rclxub.gif ... which of you is correct? rm167/100gm is most certainly not value for money by any standards, lol. Unless you're in Japan or something.

Hehe I wanted to go Ruth's Chris when I was holidaying in Toronto couple of years back. Prices weren't actually that bad now that I think about it (rib eye was like cad 45? = ~myr150). But that time still student, couldn't afford it so didn't go.

i am now the mayor of Prime! tongue.gif

tried the september special, wagyu skirt, it's certainly not as tender as the more 'normal' steak cuts, but a lot "beefier" haha (can't think of any other word).

october's special is imperial wagyu wah ... dunno how this compares to last month's blackmore wagyu.

The turnover is important to ensure the meats are fresh. If the meat is fresh, the chef's culinary skill is secondary.

By this logic those sub-par places like The Ship and Victoria's Station should have awesome steaks, but they don't. Just saying tongue.gif

Also, no comment on Mandarin Grill cos it's damn expensive, but Prime with Starwood discount is actually very very reasonable. Cheaper than Jake's, even.

Wanted to go try out Las Carretas last night but damnnnn couldn't figure out how to get to the other side of the road on Jalan Semantan. I came from PJ/BU side so I was opposite, at CIMB, and that area is like all highways so wrong turn = 15 minute detour wadafarkk ... so I gave up and went to boathouse in ttdi instead (crappy food btw).

wonder if there's any truth to it?

None whatsoever. I'd rather buy and grill my own meat than eat at the ship.

back in the states where the 'grill culture' is a lot bigger I used to use an actual grill, but here in malaysia I just use something like this in the picture.

season with salt and pepper, grill on high, high heat, use the 'thumb meat' test to see how done the steak is. problem is inconsistency, because unlike restaurants, i only do this once in a blue moon and got no consistent source of good meat, so sometimes it's good sometimes it kinda sucks. lol.

thumb meat test:
