i think dx1 will sound like edifier s530 spkr since the specs are similar one. hf crossover at 3600hz.

Spec does not really define the sound signature. Is just one small portion of it

yup, what he said. I can understand this as I own both Diamond 122 and Denton 80th Anniversary, one can sound harsher with some less than perfect recording, but the Diamond is more immune to dynamic and power, while Denton is kinda power hungry, it will not sound good if insufficient power feed to it, Denton sound very forgiving while still able to bring the music details, with decent bass punch cool.gif

Yes, suit movie and jazz, basically most genre lah, it's consider a good speakers, just that the craftsmanship is not so good for Diamond 100 series, look for Diamond 200 series, it solve the cabinet issue. Also for movie purpose, suggest you add a sub lol, Diamond goes down to around 45hz, which is enough for most music listening. The sound on Diamond 100 tend to airy, flexible bass, more emphasis on drivers instead of cabinet, so I think the weakpoint on the cabinet. Better you have a look first, Diamond 10 series could be better looking to you.

Just listen to the sound if is to your liking. Nothing in particular. It might suits me and not you. So your ear should be the judge

In my personal view, I will give brightness ratings for Wharfedale Diamond series as below:

Brightness Ratings
Diamond 8 -> 1 out of 5
Diamond 9 -> 0 out of 5
Diamond 10 -> 2 out of 5

Other brands
Mordaunt-Short MS900i series ---> 4 out of 5
Mission M30 series ------> 3 out of 5
Mission MX series -------> 2 out of 5

That's why I am very careful in choosing new speakers now.

My last advice:

1. A bad speakers will ruin your music listening pleasure easily, while only hide noise in poorly recording track

2. A good speakers will make you enjoy music, more forgiving for less than perfect recording and sacrifice very little on resolution and details

For point 2, it's a long verification process cool.gif

Choose your test tracks wisely, good luck and have fun hunting your speakers thumbup.gif

Hi Bro,

May I know what you mean by "sound very forgiving"? What does this mean?

Thanks.

hmm, it may not apply to everyone, really depends how many genre of music you listen to, I'm a bit mixed when listen to music, no specific genre for me, sound great to my ears are good music. Some speakers sound good with vocal & jazz, some good with bass/pop songs, some good at new age instrumental, some good at rock & roll, if a speakers can play all these effortlessly without much sacrifice analytical details, I will consider it a forgiving speakers, or even so some speakers will not sound good without preamp or sound tuning, but a good speakers should sound good if given clean amplification, in that case I will consider the speakers forgiving too, thus save your time to do more works to get balanced and musical sound
