Actually N79 is better. I tested both N78 & N79 side by side and was shock on how fast N79 acquire the signal. The only thing I dun like N79 is the keypad & the navi wheel...very difficult to press & control.

Out of many Nokia N series, how is the N79 GPSr perform ? N78 have the best GPSr, while N95 and N82 are worst, in terms of lock on time. sweat.gif But how N79 do compare to these ?

Each phone is different, I also dont know why, me and my friend's N82 put together and his one locks in 15-30 seconds, mine locks in 1-2 minutes. But if driving, mine locks very fast also.

It has nothing to do with Nokia Map, they are still using the same sensor in the phone. Sometimes GPS never use for a long time, they need longer time to lock signal. This is what we call COLD START. After locking signal for the first time, close Garmin and Open Garmin again, u will find that the GPS locks really fast just in a few seconds.

If I remember correctly, N82 GPS antenna is located at the back, above the camera. However, the phone GSM & wifi antenna is located at bottom, below the battery. So it is quite troublesome to hold the phone without blocking/absorbing the RF signal from the palm of your hand.

if u compare with nokia internal GPS the external one locks in 5 sec after connected to the phone.

Weakness is battery life u need to charge the Phone battery and the external gps battery. When connected u cant use bluetooth handsfree.
