Hey Sifu,

I running into deep deep shXt i think

I'm helping my friend to upgrade his 3g phone 2.1 to 2.2

Before upgrading.
Iphone 3g FW 2.1 unlocked
Not Jailedbreak coz the Cydia and Installer is missing.

After upgrading
iPhone 3g FW 2.2 via Window QuickPwn 2.2
FW from the link on page 1
With Cydia and Installer now

Problem
No service with Maxis nor Digi

I read from some other thread saying that if you finished upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 via Quickpwn and there's no service it means that the phone is unlocked via hardware instead of software. The phone cannot be used except as an iTouch.

Can I downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 so that the phone can be used again.

Really appreciate some light here

Check where the iPhone 3G Part Numbers origin from lor. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

If it's Hong Kong hardwre Unlock, you're so dead.

QUOTE
this will happen to those who thought their iPhone 3G is so called "legally unlock" from Hong Kong, and in actual fact, it is those locked iPhone with turbosim implanted in them and sell them as "legally unlock iPhone"
To check if yours is a fake factory unlock see the settings page and the items should be Airplane Mode, WiFi, Carrier and Fetch New Data. In the fake ones "Carrier" is missing.

Read first post of this thread and sorry, you can't downgrade the baseband. That's why its important to read before you do anything.

1) You purchase the iPhone from where? Send back to the shop or seller for a replacement. Hardware Unlock or using turbosim? Got Carrier word in the Settings page?

2) If it's from Australia, call the shop you bought the phone from and ask for the unlock code again.

QUOTE
Seaedge: one problem guys.. one of my friend's australian set unlocked, then update to 2.2, and now is locked back. does it happen that way?

Stringfellow: This was reported earlier on via Macrumors, that some of the iPhones that are unlocked via unlock codes from telco carriers gets locked back. The best solution is to tell your friend to inform the Australian telco that he had bought the phone from to again forward the unlock codes via iTunes again. Otherwise, they may want you to bring it in so that they can do that again.

This is the reason why Australian iPhones are not high on my preferred list. Having to retrace your unlocking history with a telco is troublesome to say the least.

3) Another option is to wait for the firmware 2.2 patch to be available but that would be next year. No estimation time leh. Could take 2-6 months,,

Hi i've bought a 3g Iphone Factory Unlock from Sg..i've been wanting to jailbreak it but theres a warning statement on quickpawn instruction:[/B]"Important***: Do not attempt these instructions for the 2.2 iPhone Firmware unless you don't care about a software unlock in the future. Using QuickPwn with the 2.2 iPhone Firmware could reduce your chances of being able to unlock the iPhone 3G.

What does that mean??Does it means that my factory unlock will be void??and each time i upgrade my firmware i cant use itunes to upgrade anymore?
Juz wan to clarify sum stuff before jailbreaking my phone.

Help its appreciated..thanks^^

that statement is for those locked set.....coz by upgrade d firmware to 2.2 it will upgrade d baseband of d i3g.... dev team may have found solution for d older baseband but not d newer baseband...that y they come out with d warning....

and this statement is not applicable to d officially unlocked set......for officially unlocked set...u can use whatever pawn to pawn d i3G

Hello I need the pros here to suggest me the best option... The problem now is my mum going to buy me an iPhone in Australia and there are 2 choices for me to choose from :

1) get the unlocked iPhone with 2.2 firmware
2) get the locked iPhone with 2.1 and yellowsnOw it later

which is better ?

If i choose the 2nd option where yellowsnow can make my locked phone to become unlocked, will this be TEMPERARY unlocked ? or PERMANENTLY unlocked ? Do I need to be constantly jailbraking before performing an update ? Or is it that after installing yellowsNow my iPhone is unlocked forever and i save $$ not buying the unlocked unit that will cost me additional $150 in Australia..

PLEASE HELP ! PROS..

also for some information, can i still install yellowsNow even my phone is already unlocked ? what are the extra benefits I can get from yellowsnow that I found no in unlocked unit ?

after restore thru itune....it will go back to original setting... and have to perform d jailbreaking process again....

about finding any trace on jailbreaking....is very subjective lor.....u can just restore n pretend u didn't jailbreak before u send for warranty .

yes. apple can easily detect whether an iphone has been JB before or not. it is entirely up to their discretion to be honest.

Hi Sifus,

I need your help and I can't seem to find it anywhere here. I even tried google.

I recently upgraded my 2G FW1.1.4 to FW2.2. Before I Quickpwn, I backup all my data using SSH & WINSCP as mentioned on the 1st page of this thread:

<Before you proceed to JailBreak, please do a full backup with iTunes or manually backup your files with iPhone File Manager. (Only for Jailbroken iPhones)
Refer here for iPhone File manager recommendation: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/779930
a) Contacts- var/mobile/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb (contain the numbers) and AddressBookImages.sqlitedb (contain the contact pics)
b) SMS - var/Mobile/Library/SMS/SMS.db
c) Calender - var/mobile/Library/Calendar/Calendar.sqlitedb
d) Notes - var/mobile/Library/Notes/Notes.db
- Reboot your phone after SSH.
e) Photo Library - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/687108/+360#entry21110268
f) Maps - var/mobile/Library/Maps (Bookmarks.plist, History.plist and Route.plist)>

The FW2.2 worked well and I transferred back all data.

All work well EXCEPT my contacts. When I copy the old contacts, the "owner" will change from "mobile" to "root" but the "rights" remains the same and after I restart my iphone, the old contacts is deleted and there is no contacts at all (the contacts remain like it was after I JB).

I have tried the following and failed: 1)I have tried giving permission to root thru BossPrefs (Fix User Dir Permission), 2) I have tried adding 1 new contact to the iphone before SSH to create a directory.

I don't know if this is relevant, I noticed that the file for me is "/private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb" with a "private" after root.

Appreciate if anyone can give me any useful advise. Thanks in advance.

First of all ... U should post this in the iPhone Club thread and using the template.

OK back to business, make sure the "/private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook" is set to 0700 (rights), mobile in owner and group.

Set the "AddressBook.sqlitedb" and "AddressBookImages.sqlitedb" to 0644 and mobile in Owner and Group.

Reboot the phone and see how.

Thank you forzzbyte to the rescue.

May I know how to set to 0700 (rights), mobile in owner and group? I checked under properties, all the options to change owner and group to mobile is gray out. Same for "AddressBook.sqlitedb" and "AddressBookImages.sqlitedb", also gray out.
