Sorry if this question sound stupid. Why is it necessary to jailbreak your phone ?

I need some insight from the experience user to what are the essential apps or fix that is needed which require you to jailbreak your phone.

Well, here' the deal.

Jailbreak phone gets to;

1) Add lot's of themes to phone from lockscreen to homescreen. See winterboard thread. Super cun.
2) Disable Edge connection and other connections in the phone.
3) Lot's of 3rd party apps to use and mostly free and good. Example..
a) BiteSMS to forward sms and contacts which is not available without Jailbreaking...yahoo.
b) OfflineMaps.
c) Video recorder like Cycorder.
d) Snapture, one of the best camera apps. better than default iphone camera app.
e) PDAnet to share 3G connection with laptop.
and more...............

Well it's not "necessary" but like TripleH listed out, you get to push your iPhone to max capabilities. There are some long time users in here who do fine without any jailbreaking.

then i proceed with Dev-Team pwntools?

You can download the firmware from the links davidgary73 provided and u can't see the fullbackup method?

You can upgrade your firmware from iTunes and use quickpwn after. Just follow the guide provide lor. Sure can wan. Have fun.

emm...how do i convert the restore file (Winrar) --> .ipsw ?

Your file should be iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw. So it ends with .ipsw

If the if is iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw.zip, just delete the zip extension and remain the ipsw.

hey bro, i just finished restore the phone wit 2.2...
but my QuickPwn22-1.exe is not running ....
it shows "the application fail to initialized properly"

what should i do?

Try installing the new .NET framework and then try QuickPwn again.

hi, i need some help with my iphone.

i bought my iphone about a year ago in kl. it was hacked and all so i can use it. before installing my sim card, the shopkeeper pasted this yellow/orange plastic thingy that looks like a chip, he said this would help my iphone recognize the sim card. after reading through some posts in forums, i guess that the thingy is turbosim, but i'm not too sure.

anyhoo, my iphone was on version 1.0.2 and i never dared to update coz i wasnt sure how to. so today i tried quickpwn 2.2 and updated the iphone successfully with the help from the guide at iClarified. but unfortunately, the iphone does not detect my maxis line. all it shows is no service, and when i remove the sim card it says "No Sim".

is this happening because of the extra thingy on my sim card? is my problem solvable?

might be ur turbosim too old.. cant detect latest fw2.2.. u might need to get the lastest TURBOSIM
