I'm actually interested in the PDC version of the CQ40 as I'm looking for a budget laptop with better battery life, but the "max 2GB ram" spec on the HP site is bothering me as well.
If you put in 4GB and use 32bit Windows you can only use 3GB out of the 4GB.

Max is 4GB. Already stated in lots of post before. To check whether new or refurbished, you can check the serial no at HP website or call HP.

I dont think AMD can run dual channel with different sticks of RAM.
