GUYS! Today I got a suprise package from Netraid and it's my long awaited Gainward 4850 GS!

I got a 1-1 exchange for the new nickel-plated card! And seriously I didn't expect such a shocking event today... gosh I can't feel any better this week than today.

I'd like to extend my thanks to the guys in this thread who shared so much nice information and support till today!

how come can change like that only..
it's for faulty items only or for the old batch?

Mine is the first batch which had problems.. so Netraid did said that he was arranging an exchange program. I send back my card.. and now here it is!

may b if u wait till netraid ran out of 4850 stock, u'll get 4870 instead...................

it can happen, like last time people RMA 2900xt, get bck 3870x2..........

4850 not yet phase out...for 2900XT, it was phase out thus was being replaced with 3870x2 (almost feel like killing my 2900XT to swap for 3870x2 ) if not mistaken it's an Asus card?

I wish man! Hahaha.. I was initially planning to top up to get 4870.. but after weeks of waiting and due to so much financial crisis, decided better save money.
Wow, how much is a 2900xt compared to 3870x2 now?

Added on October 30, 2008, 11:45 pmOh ya, just to share with you guys about the temps of the 4850 GS.. seriously it is a huge improvement of the 1st batch as it was idling 47C at 50% fan speed. NOW its idling at 37C at 50% fan speed. That is holy cow.

Umm what's AC?
What casing you're using?

Mine is 46c idle, full load should be 69c since so far only run the furmark stability test. The casing i use is Cooler Master Ammo 533 with the 2x 12cm fan as flow in and flow out.
So is it normal for my temperature?

I feel its ok for only 2x 120mm fans. If you had CM690, I figured you'll get about the same as us CM690 users.

Maybe you can try modding with extra fans if you don't plan to change your casing?

ATE. And I saw there's many 4850GS at there.

Highly dependent on air flow in ur casing & room temp as well
Do some cable management & add some fans to ur system.

Supposed to be air cond

I initially thought ac = artic cooling HSF or something . Mine idles below 40 without aircond. Fan speed 65%.

maybe oc cpu make it generate more heat..
but i would say it's better than reference cooler..
last time gaming sure warm...

leave it first before some tweak..

Guys, i just got myself an Gainward 4850GS from a forumer here..
It's 2nd hand but still quite brand new coz it was purchase like last month or last 2 months ago i think..
Anyway after receiving it i had a few probs with it, when installing it was no prob but everytime i tried to test its stability using 3dmark vantage it would load the jane marsh bench halfway thru then the computer would restart..
I tried a few times already... I install n uninstall drivers like a few times already..
I always notice that about haf way thru load there would be some artifacts appearing before my pc restart..
Sometimes after the restart at the desktop would appear some artifacts which would go away if i open up a window or something..
I tried downclocking the gpu n it's still the same but when i downclock the mem to 1ghz only then it would run the test stabily..
Is this normal for a GS?? For your info the GPU heatpipe is copper..

humm , your problem is not the 1st batch problem...

ur problem more like not enough power psu problem,

but u r using st56f

It couldn't be the psu prob coz i can use my 4870 no prob..
I run tons of test and played games with my 4870 and never once did it restart or anything..
Don't tell me 4850GS suck more juice than a 4870...

cloudwan, I believe its best you pm and send it back to Netraid to swap for a new card. So far a lot of us had experienced problems with the first batch (copper heatsink) and we have sent it back for an exchange d. I believe you're still able to do so right now.
