I've got a better idea. Turn the backlight all the way down..and then u turn off the lights. Problem solved. tongue.gif
However, having said all the nonsense above, there are certain movies that are "darker/brighter" than the rest even if u're just viewing the end credits. When i had my Sony W400, the black levels were excellent, too bad there's backlight bleed at top corners. Oh well, that's history now. biggrin.gif

Not pitch black la...just need to adjust so its not too grayish. If I increase the contrast and lower the brightness will it do the trick? Or is it the other way round. My Sony black level is good so I try to get something similar with the Panny. Anyway that Sony also got more advance options which Panny doesn't has...Black Corrector, Adv. Contrast Enhancer, Clear White,...to name a few tongue.gif

Try AVS Forum, i got a link to the PG60UR and lots of impressiveness they have discussed over this, than PV80
as most of them 'yakk' about PV80 design and many of the 'wow' over the impressiveness of the PG60UR, but most of them talk about the 50Inch one..
This link is from here though..i save it to my desktop..but not in my laptop

IR means Image Retention, plasma lingo for some temporarily etched image due to difference in phosphor aging.
a) Not so obvious for my case. Maybe coz my viewing area is quite dimly lit; warm white 25W Philip flourescent for living area. Also, did you remove 1 layer or 2 layers of the plastic film from the screen? You are supposed to only remove one layer.

b) IR was pretty obvious, but after switching on orbiter mode and reduce brightness/contrast, it has almost eliminated IR, save for the menu area.
c) This one I am not sure yet on the service/repair side. But those who handle info side sure KO big time.
Regards.

a) Damn, i removed all plastic film ..... doh.gif

b) what is the brightness / contrast settings that u r using bro? mind to share? I had set mine to 60 for both ..

Thanks

I think the PG6000 is slightly different from our PG60UR here. The PG6000 has 4 HDMI v1.3 ports compare to 3 nos. for PG60UR, plus they have the ISF calibrated settings ...

That said, I think the panel and the basic technology behind these two models are the same, so for anyone who is looking for PG60UR, the avs forum is a good place to start.

Yup, they talked about the 50" one a lot. There is another avs thread dedicated for the newer 32" model ... I am kind of waiting for it in malaysia, to replace my LCD ... brows.gif My friend working in UK told me that product is very hot there, often out of stock ..

slk5538,

I dunno whether my setting is applicable to your environment or not coz you had said that you have a lot of reflections, meaning your environment is quite bright.

But anyway, my setting is

TV : brightness=30 contrast=50 (this setting will appear dim to most people as I want to protect my baby girl's eyes)
Component1 : brightness=51 contrast=60
HDMI1 : brightness=40 contrast=60

After the 200hours burn-in period is up, I will revise things upward again. icon_rolleyes.gif Now only done abt 100hours.

Regards.

Thanks bro,

BTW, if you access the service menu, do notice that there is an item labeled PTT, that is the total used hours of your set.

sony's and samsung's latest mid range and above LCD all have excellent black level . almost at plasma level.

by next year most if not all top tier brand LCD have excellent black level including hitachi and sharp .sony is coming out with contrast ratio of 1,000,00 to 1

the only issue left to tackle will be clouding which seem an eternal problem of LCD . with processor improving to 120/150 hz or even 200 hz and ever improvement of their engine and panel this last problem will be solved eventually . 2009/2010 will see LCD technology reaching full maturity with resolution at 3840x2160 and thereafter from 2011 we will see the charge of OLED slowly taking over

plasma will still continue to survive though . heard panasonic is coming up with something that will revolutionize power saving and PQ

lets hope the price of blue ray player will drop fast and especially the price of its software .

once we see pasar malam traders starts to sell real BD movie , thats the time to celebrate and dance . do pray that piracy law dont come down too hard on the chinese mafia in china and we'll see pricing coming down sooner rather than later

sorry to say.. i've read so many reviews over the net. 100hz/120hz doesnt solve the blurring issue of a lcd. most of them said the 120hz at max will create some kind of artifacts and like 'force to move' faster.. they better find some else which is better to replace the motion thingy

wait till plasma says good bye to heat (internal fans) and higher power usage compare with LCD

LCD technology seems more promising in near future
as least sony and samsung are more keen with LCD line

Does anyone know where I can find the following 32" LCD TV models :

1) Panasonic Viera TC-32LZ800 32" 1080p LCD HDTV

2) LG 32LG70 32" 1080p LCD HDTV

I saw the tech spec of these 2 models and they are just what I'm looking for. Problem is I don't see them in any store. Not sure if they are limited to be sold only in certain countries.

Thanks in advance notworthy.gif .

i agree with this statement, regarding the picture motion performance, LCD technology is hard to achieve as what plasma tv performs in the motion picture.

bro, are you sure plasma tv consumes higher power wattage than a LCD tv?

hi bro,

panasonic malaysia doesnt carry 32" full HD LCD tv.

the closest model is 37LZ800 or 37LZ80.
