After read through all the related thread to plasma and also regarding Panny PVP80H and LG60, i have narrowed down the decision based on these two models, based on the budget, value over size and features, ratings, various reviews and also availability. Have made a chart of comparison for 2 cents from forumer here, as well as info feeding to those who needs it. Hopefully there is anyone can comment on which one should be the β€˜ONE' and also if there are better with almost same cost as indicated in the chart. As of now, my favourite will lean more towards LG60 based on
A) Designs - one frame and more modern design (usually only higher end model will come with 1 frame design, Panny's design get a lot of 'yak' from forumer like AVSforum or foreign forum
B) Features - with 150hz, USB in supporting many formats reading, invisible sound

But Panny's PV80H have some advantages that we can't ignore:
A) price decreasing from RM4999 (May) till now RM3799 (Sep), so it will be kept dropping again
B) 5 years' manufacturer warranty, for LG, need to pay extra to get the latter 2 years
C) SDHC cards supporting, although only JPEG, for LG, only USB

Please recommend me a LCD for my living room. Is full HD necessary? What can I do with full HD and blueray out of my current budget? Is 37” good enough, should it be 40” or 42”? Can it input astro, normal aerial line, dvd, cctv, and computer, all 5 together? Budget wise maybe 4k+ ... Thanks.
*
42 should be the one to go, apart from matching your budget, ratio wise, it's more value for money.

For now 32 inch ration has come down to 1:80 (inch versus RM) - even fullHD panel
42 inch ratio has come to 1:100 and now probably 1:90 - for HD panel
but 46 inch and 50 inch the ratio is still 1:120 or 1:150(some) - for HD panel, there for the ratio comparison worthwhile, no matter what the additional features be, stick to the ratio will keep us from spending more than what we should

I still remember on August when I visited a panasonic shop which the salesperson said Panasonic PV80H won't ever drop price, but only be replaced with new models and price remains the same....but when i see the drastic price drop from my notice these few months ago, the price dropping is really a eye popping thing..

the best lcd tv? Philips 52,47,32PFL9703/98 with 100hz and 2ms surpassed samsung's 4ms
*
the response time is indeed wowing, and latest LCD design of Philips really commensurate with their vision of having boom design,
however the PQ and price of Philips are not as good as some of the competitors..say LG for the latest LG42P60FR....
have you compared them both, i have the opportunity to see side by side, as i must say the Scarlet (LG42P60FR) is indeed won over,
philips response time is indeed faster, but if i'm not wrong Scarlet is at 4 ms and i can't see much difference though (human eye have constraints wink.gif)

Do remember you're not getting a full-fledged PG6000 that was sold overseas with the local PG60UR. I have one and its famous isf-cc menu is MISSING in our local PG60UR. I have asked local LG support/customer service and their reply was they want to make it easier for their local customers by not having so many things to set. Yeah right. When asked further, they ignored me. Way to go LG customer service. You know who you are, LG cust service, Ms.Lam.

So beware if you want to go for PG60UR just for its isf-cc menu. Other than that, its a fine product with very good PQ.
Regards.

can you enlighten us on the isf-cc menu? is it for the advance setting?

*
only go for the A650 series...these are the best series recommended by AVSForum, i think because of the 120Hz thing..other series the PQ not as good...i also happen to compare side by side for A610 and A650 ...

Thanks for the info bro. Actually I am quite satisfy with the set I bought .... I actually compared it side by side with the P brand Plasma before I bought it. IMHO, the PQ of this set is better than the latest HD Ready plasma of the P brand and SS brand but lose out to the P brand full HD plasma. But you can't compare apple with orange, right?

What really pxxxing me off is the customer service and the fact that untrue facts are being published in their website.

So, i won't go asking for a refund as i can't think of any substitute yet

Hi, may i know after comparing, what's the aspects of consideration that have made you choose PG60 rather than the PV80H
The PQ itself only ?

For me, the USB drive and also the 1-frame design that interest me most, but can't make decision yet, cause house moving only end of the year, still have time to consider...and more feedback

Now both pricing come to the similar or RM3799-RM3899 (with or without free gifts)

i've actually search all around some of the uk's websites grading about HDTVs.. i did not see any LG model being introduced to people. wonders..

Try AVS Forum, i got a link to the PG60UR and lots of impressiveness they have discussed over this, than PV80
as most of them 'yakk' about PV80 design and many of the 'wow' over the impressiveness of the PG60UR, but most of them talk about the 50Inch one..
This link is from here though..i save it to my desktop..but not in my laptop

One question here..might be a bit silly,

Plasma does have response time ?

Now what i just notice it makes so much different if the response time is high, especially if any of you guys are watching the DVD version of newest HONG KONG SERIES "GEMS...something: ...the initial part where the whole scenes like a dragging slide show, if your LCD response time is low (what i saw was on the Samsung 3 series), the quality is distinctly bad, where you can see stutterness...

And just found out that even SONY BRAVIA W SERIES (from the booklet) the response time is 8 MS, OMG, it's worse than PHILIPS, and LG in this sense, even that it's FULL HD....

Therefore for good TV testing, i suggest you all use the DVD version of these HONG KONG series as a try out to know whether the TV is ok when looking at fast motion images

You are using vga cable or HDMI - HDMI to connect PC to PY800?

Added on November 5, 2008, 10:59 amWant to get another LA46A610 or A650 for new house. Any comment on that?

A650, they won CNET 8 point of review.
Also i have personally scrutinized the quality. Although for transition and wording, the blurring a bit obvious, but overall, the quality is better than the rest of their series...if this is call bad, others are 3 x bad

Anyway recommend those who are buying Samsung LCD to personally tested out with high speed motion graphics, such as the latest cantonese series about diamond which the initial song part, the sliding show will be noticed stutter for many LCD TV, and if your TV can survive from the stutterness, then your TV is the top quality among all

just went to desa home theater in lowyat.

dv410 still selling 450rm

phillips 5996 selling 399 (although the guy said, if take cash, can give lower).

But he recommended to take dv410 cos, when the  coaxial cable pops into the amp, and the hdmi cable pops into the tv, one of the signals will be cut off and it wont be simultaneous (so he recommend pioneer dv410)  cool2.gif  but free hdmi cable of course

How true i dont know.

But what caught my attention was the LG scalett 37 inch. It was very clear, balanced and pretty sharp (compared to the rest). I would say looks even better then the S series. And they were selling 2999 plus S cable free. (and 30rm extra delivery to shah alam).

Anyway just wanna share with u guys. Cheers  cool.gif

PS : Cmon htkaki...lg scarlett 37 inch  thumbup.gif bila mau masuk  cool2.gif

If for RM450 (dv410) better buy dv610 for RM480 at A&L at Amcorp mall.
Bought this from the info by forumer here....quick quick go and see there if still left.

Hi Guys,

I am new here. Speaking about promotion. There is a promotion for Philips 42PFL5403, price is RM6000 less 1600 at Harvey Norman. I am interested in that model but I have found somewhere in googleland that it might have trouble with motion although it claims to have a good engine.

Another alternative for me is Sony KLV40S400. Anyone have any experience with this? Is this 1080i or 1080p? It doesnt state anywhere in the specs online. This one is priced at RM 4599.

I compared the W series Sony 40 inch and it is way better than the S series. Unfortunately the price is beyond my reach.
*
Even W series is horribly at 8ms response time, which is too low...therefore will have problem with motion
then talking about S series, rclxub.gif
