I'd be happy if Astro can deliver a low-compression 16:9 480i signal, nevermind about the HD. Right now they can't even deliver a DVD-quality picture. No use having a 720p/1080i signal if it's compressed like hell.

Then what is the current Astro picture resolution rite now ??

But it looks quite clear in panny plasma. How about the"Big" satelite disc that we use to watch China HK movies so on. I think they are in digital format. I havent tried but wish to try to see the difference in my panny screen.... drool.gif

why do you think astro's broadcast is not 480i? or 576i? those are standard definition. 480 for NTSC, 576 for PAL.

Oh.. Im using belkin gold too. Bought at ALL IT HYPERMART. Price slightly higher than Sri Com, but I would prefer ALL IT anyday for their service. I had many bad experiences at Sri Com.

I know it's 576i, I'm emphasizing on the "low-compression" part. tongue.gif

I'm just saying that it's no point paying a premium for 720p/1080i Astro if it's just going to be heavily-compressed like now.

About the surge protector, I'm using Belkin Gold, bought from Tesco at 219.00. I liked it's RM25,000 equipment warranty, plus free replacement when the surge protector burns out (at least that's what it says on the warranty sheet).

If I remember correctly, 1000.. during a power blackout, the units still hold but I just turn everything off immediately.
In my area (Bangsar), i don't usually get blackouts but I do get occasional brownouts..so I guess a UPS is perfect for my situation.

r u suggesting that ASTRO to go with C-Band ? Then u must willing to pay extra for :
1. Bigger dish
2. High power satellite transmission
3. High installation fee

and last but not least, u must have enough and proper place to put the 1.8m antenna dish (check out the size of C-Band dish at any Gas station)

btw, I'm not an ASS-tro supporter...but I understand their limitation on Ku vs C-Band nod.gif

Bro and sis , i wanna ask some noob question here.

currently looking for a 40inchi lcd tv.

my main question is go 720 or 1080p ?

because my family always watch astro ja , if get 1080 would be a little waste , no ?

but at another side , 1080p image quality definitely is drool.gif when watching blu-ray movie.

another question is , will 1080p tv give blur/bad image when playing 720p movie ?

do you guys think astro will upgrade to HD channel ? laugh.gif

Significance of getting 720 or 1080 depends on your viewing distance? How far is your TV from your sofa? If it is more than 5 ft, not much difference can be seen. For astro, better get plasma. 1080p tv will not blur with 720p movie. But if you really want to get a 1080p, get a bigger size >42inch

8 sockets, 2 of which are rotatable, plus ports for phone line and TV antenna. Doesn't look like the antenna port will fit the Astro antenna though (although I could be wrong since I'm not a cable expert.).

Supposedly, there is a RM25,000 warranty on connected equipment based on prevailing market value of your stuff (less depreciation). And free replacement of your surge protector if a power surge knocks it out. At least that's what it says on its warranty sheet. All claims have to be made though their Singapore office.
