i think i'm the first owner here? just got it today with the rm500 rebate, 1gb ram and 320gb hdd upgrade for free.

build quality was better than expected, very solid to me in piano finish. only problem now is it's kinda hot under the touchpad.

Correct me if i am wrong... I think he got himself the 16 XPS Studio... I read a few reviews and all stated that the 16 one will become uncomfortably hot at the palm rest area....

yup it's the studio xps 16. it's abit warm on idle and get quite hot when gaming or so, anyway it didnt bother much if you use a mouse.

for benchmark it get around 4.8k+ on 3dmark06. the only game i tried is l4d at highest setting it get around 40-60fps and around 20 if turn on 8x AA.

the build quality is a big leap from dell inspiron to me and worth the price if got the rm500 rebate. lazy to take pictures atm. tongue.gif

not really sure what is it under the touchpad that make it so hot, it's not gpu, hdd or ram. laptop cooler should do the trick since there's quite a lot holes under the laptop.

the default spec with 4gb ram, 320gb hdd and 3 years complete care for rm4.8k. wanted to get rgbled screen but i think that resolution is too much for 16".

anyway tried crysis benchmark tool just now. 25fps on 1280x720 and 30fps on 1024x768 with medium-high setting (texture, object and shader high). gpu temp is around 75c when heavy gaming.

Hi. I have been waiting for a Dell laptop with 9600 GT. Instead this laptop comes with a ATI HD 3670. May I know which card is the better one? I am also wondering if anyone can compare this laptop with BenQ S42 or HP HDX 16T in terms of performance since I m interested in gaming...

Thx. rclxms.gif

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT is tailored towards the gaming crowd, according to NotebookCheck.net, it's more powerful than the ATI M86XT.
HP HDX 16t is still a multimedia machine; for gaming purposes I suggest you look into gaming notebooks like Toshiba, Asus or MSI's line.

I'm not a gamer so I wouldn't know but is 75c considered normal temp when gaming? Would heavy Photoshop usage lead to approximately the same temperature? Sounds a tad hot!

You can check the links of studio xps 16 review on first page. The 3dmark06 tested from them on studio xps 16 is almost the same to mine so i assume all the other laptop should have correct result. They did compare it with HDX16T/HD18T (9600M GT)in 3dmark06 so you can get a rough idea.

I think 75c is quite normal for decent gpu in malaysia hot weather since i heard laptop like benq s42 can reach more than 90c when gaming. For me heavy photoshop most of the time will only load on the processor and ram so i think gpu temp wont be that high (correct if wrong).

Anyway here's some pictures i just took. People who like HP glossy design should like this laptop as well.

Can't agree more, the longer you wait, the more the Studio XPS will fall behind in terms of specs; when the demand for Studio XPS decreases, so does the price. So ask yourself how long you can wait?

thanks for pics.
the laptop sleeve looks really really cheap sad.gif
slim AC Adapter = good!!

btw, the palm rest is plastic or brushed aluminium (like M1530)?

your screen is HD WXGA ( 1366 x 768) right?
so how’s the screen? any graininess or light leakage?

could you check the LCD screen manufacturer?

Control Panel > Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor Details > Hardware Ids

my M1530 with LG-Phillips screen will show like this

the laptop sleeve actually is in full black (camera flash), but it did look abit cheap because too thin.

for the palm rest i think is some glossy plastic, something like you can see from hp laptop.

the screen is WLED in 1366x768 and it looks good to me, no grainy or light leakage. it's the one from samsung.
