QUOTE(Eugene91 @ Jan 17 2009, 09:56 AM) Now i saw this at Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop option Yeah, Dell just added that option; it wasn't there a few days ago.256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 9500M-GE with Hybrid SLI® Technology why 256mb? hmm.. should the ati 3670 be better? or is this 9500m-ge combined sli with 9400m?? which would be better? ATI 3670 is available for Studio XPS 16 only. NVIDIA 9500M is the Hybrid SLi option, most probably they combine this graphics chipset with a discreet one, not an Intel GMA due to the NVIDIA® GeForce® MCP79MX chipset; I might be wrong though. |

Wow, now with the Hybrid SLI graphics, the Studio XPS 13 can go rival a MacBook already.

QUOTE(Dackson @ Jan 17 2009, 10:49 PM) hv any ppl buy studio XPS ald ?? The reason why the RAM is expensive: DDR3It's very expensive if want to get the 1X 4gb ram 1066Mhz I probably will go to Dell Stuio XPs. Just want to know who buy the notebook ald ?? If you haven't noticed, not many notebooks in the market install DDR3 in their system even though they're using a chipset (i.e. Intel PM45) that can support it. A case in point will be the MSI GX620, the RAM in this notebook is DDR2 SDRAM, but since it has an Intel PM45 chipset, it can support DDR3; MSI decided not to install DDR3 to cut cost. I'm having a hard time choosing between MSI GX620 and Dell Studio XPS 16; one's for gaming, the other for multimedia stuff. |

QUOTE(n20nine @ Jan 17 2009, 01:55 PM) thanks! that's the first in-depth review of the xps studio 13 i've read hmm.. Inadequate: 1,整機略顯笨重,移動便攜性能偏低; 1, slightly bulky machine, mobile portable low performance; 2,電池續航能力偏低。 2, low battery capacity. I wonder how how "slightly bulky" is that..need to get a hands-on on the machine before buying! |

I am looking at the studio xps 13 ... hopefully the card IS 9500 G ... would suck if it was 9400. 9500G is just slightly under 8600 GT in performance, which i can take it for such a small notebook. Studio XPS 16 is way to large, and only for a slightly better card than xps 15. I used my niece's xps 13 and its just nice .. plus the LED screen really makes everything so CRISP ... major huuuuge difference. BTW, i heard if buy after July 1, 2009, possible to upgrade Vista Premium and above to Windows 7. Not sure if Dell is participating in this promotion though. Ah, here you go:I am looking at the studio xps 13 ... hopefully the card IS 9500 G ... would suck if it was 9400. 9500G is just slightly under 8600 GT in performance, which i can take it for such a small notebook. NVIDIA GeForce 9500M G The Nvidia GeForce 9500M G is the successor of the 8600M GS as it also featuresonly 16 unified shaders (the 9600M series features 32). Compared to the8600M GS, the 9500M G has an improved PureVideo HD engine (VP3), supports Hybrid-SLI and needs less current (because of the 65nm process). In conjunction with the Nvidia 9100M G integrated graphics, the 9500M G supports Hybrid-SLI (HybridPower and GeForceBoost). HybridPower is a technique to choose between the integrated and dedicated graphics core, if performance or battery runtime is needed. This works only in Windows Vista. Up to now the user has to use a tool to switch between the GPUs. Later Nvidia wants to switch automatically in the drivers. GeForceBoost uses the integrated graphics core of the 9100M G and the dedicated of the 9500M G in SLI mode to achieve better frame rates. Link here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...M-G.9451.0.html .... but then again .... So the guys at the Notebook Review forums found it: the Nvidia GeForce 9500M found in the Dell Studio XPS 13 is not a single graphics card, but two: an integrated GeForce 9400M G plus a GeForce 9200M GS with 256 MB of dedicated memory, working in a Hybrid SLI configuration. The expected performance is higher than that of the 9400M G alone and lower than a 9500M GS, so the naming seems right, but maybe the actual performance is not as high as you expected when you saw the 9500M model number. Link here: http://optimitza.cat/news/2009/01/17/the-g...-gs-hybrid-sli/ Terminology it can be confusing, but i believe it is still 9500G, in the sense, as said it is better than 9400G (comparison to weaker than 8400 GT, better than 8400 GS as in Dell XPS 13), but weaker than 9500 GS (comparison to slightly better than 8600 GT, as in Dell XPS 15). So it is basically very similar to 8600 GS, should be. This post has been edited by trancesition: Jan 19 2009, 12:48 AM |

Anyone own this beauty yet?
I've been drooling all over it for quite a while now, especially with the 16" RGB LED screen which would make it all the better for HD viewing. One thing that's holding me back is the glossy LCD that according to quite a number of people, is extremely glaring and almost impossible to use outdoors. Granted the XPS Studio 16 is not meant to be dragged around as it is not so portable, I'm used to carrying heavy laptops around (have an inspiron 9300 at the moment that I bring around all the time) and I use my laptop a lot outdoors. So just wondering if the glare is really bad. I've been to the midvalley dell store but they haven't got one around to demo. Also, anyone had any luck getting a 9 cell battery for the xps studio 16? |

QUOTE(hengwoon @ Jan 19 2009, 11:47 AM) Anyone own this beauty yet? Glossy LCD didn't prove to be a major setback for me; that's because I use my notebook at indoors most of the time, but sometimes while traveling in a car the screen reflects a lot of light from the sky and render the text on the screen difficult to read. You need notebook screens with very high brightness capabilities to combat the reflection from the sunlight, even then the battery might not last for productive work.I've been drooling all over it for quite a while now, especially with the 16" RGB LED screen which would make it all the better for HD viewing. Yes, Studio XPS weights around 2.9 kilograms with base configuration; my Inspiron 6400 weights 3.3 kilograms with 9-cell battery and I carry that notebook to my highschool plus the AC adaptor, at times I find the weight of my old notebook bothers me a lot. Currently there's no Dell Stores in the Klang Valley have the demo unit, a check with a guy working at a Dell Store in LowYat confirms this, they'll have the demo unit by February. There's no 9-cell option currently available for the Studio XPS 16. Added on January 19, 2009, 12:40 pmAdded review links (LaptopMag.com & CNET.com) for the Studio XPS 16 notebook on the first post.
