i think i'm the first owner here? just got it today with the rm500 rebate, 1gb ram and 320gb hdd upgrade for free.

build quality was better than expected, very solid to me in piano finish. only problem now is it's kinda hot under the touchpad.

I use a Targus bag to carry the Studio XPS; bought it at Low Yat plaza.

It's the Voyager Backpack, model number is TSB106AP. This is the 15.4" version, it has a detachable padded laptop pouch which I find handy for transportation and peace of mind.
Too bad the bags are all sold off when I got there on the 28th of January, so I have no choice but to take the display unit; cost me around RM290 @ All IT Hypermarket.
Don't worry whether it fits or not, I tested it on the spot with my new notebook and it fits snugly. You can opt for the 17" version too; it's a little too bulky for my taste.

my problem:(dont want dell replace by parts, wanna ask for a new unit)
1.Top casing + teh leather hv 5 scratches (very hate it)
2.The LCD hv more than one pixelens (pixel problem)
3.palmrest hv scratches and nock
4.edge casing at the DVD driver there.
5.My 6 cells batteries also hv scratches
6.why the window vista can detect 4gb ram but at physical memory it show only 3gb ram or 2.99gb ram only ? 
8.this studio XPS only come with 3 disc ?no remote control ?
9.the system still face lagging problem but is better than studio 1537
10.performance (speed) not sastify me ... abit slow, I expect something higher that DDR3 can go ~.~
11. teh bottom casing not close well !! dont know should i post the photo up to teh forum. why the QC can pass this unit.

The monitor resolution is nice, better than Studio. If use Full Hd 1080p that would be nicer.

The temperature is 40 when normal use it underneath hv coolerpad.
when in high performance is 51 when i writting this !! 45 for harddisc. 38% memory utilization.
when install heavy software is 64++.
even higher when running memory diagnostics tool at 3rd lvl. damn hot ~.~ i think is above 80 or 90 at the left hand
side. right hand side abit cooler.
when playing game , cs teh source 3mins still ok not very hot. no mood try it since this unit hv scratches ...
for studio 10min sc the sources is very hot ald, above 60++ even go 70.

at web, i saw ppl descript stuio XPS,
the whole performance benchmark is arround 6-7k. not very well when compare to those unit using DRR2 only.
the whole unit temperature is 90-116F when stressing the unit.
They say this unit cooling system not very good. not good for gaming bcoz the pamrest very very hot.

The HD screen is nice for 720p, hope cna get 1080p... better than studio even just with partial HD.
hvnt fully check this unit yet... hvnt exam + no mood. Dell spoils my mood ~.~

any ppl knwo where can get everest enginnering software ?? latest edition.

overall the unit still ok for me... hope the system can run  even fast since it's uding DDR3. But it make no big different
for me even this unit use DDR3 with DDR2 .....

@Dackson : you must be very unlucky to get that unit. for question 6 you can only utilize full 4gb ram if you using 64bit bista. and for question 8 studio xps 16 here did not come with remote control, at least for now.

not sure why you get a no brand hdd but mine is a seagate and for the dvd drive it's actually optiarc from sony and nec (can google it). i never measure the temp of the laptop surface before but based from software it never goes above 80c for any of the parts to me without laptop cooler.

@micdy : izzit something like broken sound? you better called up dell and ask for replacement.

i'm not so sure on your problem.. my speaker acting weird also last week, the bass (low notes) is very heavy and the volume is very low even on 100% and it sounds broken when volume higher than 50% on the left speaker. i think it also sound a bit like something blocking cause the sound is very weird comparing to other speaker. called up dell and the technician replaced the whole top panel (the whole thing with speaker, touch pad, touch panel, power button) for me. and now the speaker sound nothing like previous and can go very loud. i did notice they wrap the speaker with some tape on the new one they replaced.

my studio XPS need to replace 7 part ... can consider change the whole casing !!! i wanna ask for a new unit

Hmm, is Dell trying to rush their production? Shouldn't QC weed out all the problems before they send it to the customers?

Any reason why the Studio XPS 16 is cheaper than Studio XPS 13? Don't make sense to me.

hi Dackson..i think the one with RM3999 is with the lowest/basic specs such 720p lcd, no tv tuner, 250gb hdd, 2GB ddr3 ram n etc..while the RM4799 is with 1080p RGB led (which cost bout ~RM600  ) with better ram n hdd...

i notice that dell laptops price is quite hard to go down..had that experience when survey/watching dell xps 1530 price lol (thought the price is lowered but the specs also went lowered)..they mayb upgrade their processor abit but they still maintain their min price..if u try to put Onyx_black spec into dell website i think it still exceed RM6k  ..try put ur specs into the dell website mayb the difference is very slight or no difference at all..

anyway sad to hear your story..if u already fed up with dell i suggest u avoid HP..at least at dell if got prob their customer service is way much more better than HP..try look into hp pavilion thread as they also got quite a few issues..

btw Onyx_black how much do u pay for dell premium care?thinking of extending the warranty after feel the laptop heat (its quite hot)..anyway mayb diz weekend get the Cooler Master Notepal Infinite..anyone here using it for their Studio XPS 16?how is it?
