Did you happen to dive at Phi Phi Islands? Based on South Siam Divers website, they don't seem to dive at Phi Phi (weird). I am going there next year in Jan. My dive instructor recommended that I dive there. I know it's a little more expensive due to the longer boat ride time to get there. But if that place is much better than the other sites. I don't mind paying.

Anybody else here have dived at Phi Phi? How is it compared to the other sites like king cruiser, anemo reef, shark point, racha yai etc? Anything special about Phi Phi that is worth going and paying for the extra cost?

kena tau harga before buying la....i'm looking to change my BCD as well, although nothing is wrong with it. Thought want something smaller as I'm using a horseshoe back inflate with softpack with 55 pound lift. Bought from US plus shipping to Malaysia at USD950. it's a Ocean Master Knight Pro.

can view it at the website http://www.oceanmaster.com/BCJacketFeatures.htm

If you are interested PM me lah. Sure we can come to a agreeable price. Definitely won't be the crazy price that the distributor is selling here.

Agreed. I paid 3500baht for 2 dives@phi phi island from Ao Nang, slow boat (2hrs 1 way) with lunch and fruits, and i think diving in Perhentian is better!
But i don't regret it coz i really wanted to dive and i get to meet people from all over the world on the boat.

Hi everyone, I'm planning to go phuket during mid december with a 5D4N trip with my friends.
However, my friends want to go for 2 island trips and I don't want to.
So I'm thinking of diving instead of going for the 2nd island trip.
The travel agency offered me a day trip with 3 dives at King Cruiser, Shark Point, and Koh Dok Mai at only 3200 baht inclusive of full set equipments.
I currently have an Open Water Diver license, but when I browse through the web, it seems that an Advanced Open Water Diver license is required for those dive sites.
Anyone knows the requirements for those 3 dive sites?

Check with the travel agency to double confirm. Sometimes if you are an Open Water but have logged many dives, it should be no problem.
I did dive at those 3 dive sites in August and it was quite a easy dive for me. Although the sea was quite rough but not much current underwater.

There are many places to get it done. You need to consider whether you want to do your theory on mainland then go to island, or finish the whole course on the island. And also when you want to do it. Monsoon season is coming soon so East coast will be off limits. You can always walk in to any dive center near your area and enquire.

Monsoon is coming. Weather is gonna be erratic already. Perhentians should be in its last call by mid Oct.

I would say the more the better. I did 6 day dive with only 2 dive per day.

6 day dives : US550
Boat Dives : US35 for 2 tank dives.
Damages : (+- US850) 14 Dives.

Stay for 10 nights at Hilton Maldives. Will be back to South Ari Atoll in 2013.

Hilton Maldives, way out of my budget. laugh.gif

As for others who wanna dive in Maldives, a few of my friends just came back from LOB at Maldive last month. It seems it was around RM5-6k for the LOB (10 nights or so), full board including dives.

I'm finally getting my diving license next year around May and would be going to Sabah in Sept to dive (with a few dives in between the months I hope).

Some of my friends warned me that its too early to go to somewhere so nice to dive as you wont appreciate the normal places once you've gone to the best.

How true is that? Do you guys get bored or stop diving at a spot after diving it over and over again? I somehow feel I wont but I've yet to get my license and dive before.

once you have tasted something sweet you will never go back to something bitter

as a new diver, you won't be able to perfect your buoyancy skill. you will definitely not enjoy those small micro worlds but you'll be able to see the big things but still you will not enjoy your dive as you will continue to struggle with your buoyancy.

in sabah, you can see the best of both worlds. big and small creatures are available everywhere but mostly like you'll be impressed with the big stuffs instead of the small stuffs.

with your limited skills and got pampered by the liveliness underwater in sabah, you will never see other places the same because other places especially in peninsular lack the liveliness and the big stuffs that you see. so that is why you won't love the underwater anywhere else when they don't have the best of both worlds.

But the underwater is forever changing so wouldn't I see something new in each dive? I agree on the buoyancy part. I hope I have a natural born talent for it.
Guess I made the wrong decision but I'll have to stick with it.

For new divers, maybe everything is new because you don't get to see everything yet.
But after while, you'll noticed its all the same species.
The only thing different is the landscape, livelihood and the healthiness.

Well, if you have the financial capabilities, there is no such thing as wrong decision for you.
There are far more better underwater world out there besides Malaysian water.
