I'm thinking of getting open water with my friends, anyone know any nice and cheap places to get it? i heard perhentian corals are dying and around tioman is a good place to get and pricing is not as expensive as perhentian..

regarding the 200m swimming.. can i relaxingly backstroke my way till the point or is there any time limit?
do i need to prepare my own wet suit?

thx in advance..

Woot back to this thread to do some research after spending all my diving savings the last time i was researching.

I decided to take SSI since some say it has better cover of teaching in the techniques of diving.

Anyone can intro me to a responsible school around PJ area with reasonable price? or are we not allowed to ask about diving schools here?

Typically, ~RM1.5k would be the price to expect for "confined water in KL, open water in island". I believe you can get below RM1k if you opt for the "do everything on the island" approach, although you might not be comfortable with rushing through the course.

Personally think that the difference of few hundred ringgit is worth paying for you to master the basics in the pool before heading out to the ocean.

Some people say that 1st dive in the pool is not a good 1st time experience and the wow for the 1st dive in the big blue sea is more worth it..
and from last time i check confined water is cheaper then doing all in the island..

yea.. no food and lodging included can go to below 1000..
i saw a few also.. even with confined water..

dammit.. now i am thinking what to do... confine water 1st or go to the island.. padi or ssi.. headache headache..

Hi ericcc.. is seamonkey located in the a clubhouse opposite Ampcorp mall or is it a private pool?

Was thinking of going there to swim + my OW in the near future but some of my friends say its only open for the club members.

I'm finally getting my diving license next year around May and would be going to Sabah in Sept to dive (with a few dives in between the months I hope).

Some of my friends warned me that its too early to go to somewhere so nice to dive as you wont appreciate the normal places once you've gone to the best.

How true is that? Do you guys get bored or stop diving at a spot after diving it over and over again? I somehow feel I wont but I've yet to get my license and dive before.

once you have tasted something sweet you will never go back to something bitter

as a new diver, you won't be able to perfect your buoyancy skill. you will definitely not enjoy those small micro worlds but you'll be able to see the big things but still you will not enjoy your dive as you will continue to struggle with your buoyancy.

in sabah, you can see the best of both worlds. big and small creatures are available everywhere but mostly like you'll be impressed with the big stuffs instead of the small stuffs.

with your limited skills and got pampered by the liveliness underwater in sabah, you will never see other places the same because other places especially in peninsular lack the liveliness and the big stuffs that you see. so that is why you won't love the underwater anywhere else when they don't have the best of both worlds.
*
But the underwater is forever changing so wouldn't I see something new in each dive? I agree on the buoyancy part. I hope I have a natural born talent for it.
Guess I made the wrong decision but I'll have to stick with it.

For new divers, maybe everything is new because you don't get to see everything yet.
But after while, you'll noticed its all the same species.
The only thing different is the landscape, livelihood and the healthiness.

Well, if you have the financial capabilities, there is no such thing as wrong decision for you.
There are far more better underwater world out there besides Malaysian water.
*
Nah i don't have the financial capabilities. I'm just sacrificing other needs for diving. Been trying to get a license since 2010.

I guess I can go a few years later and get an awe once more.

Thanks for the info rclxms.gif

btw ask your fren dont bullsh*t... is better than emptiness, some place r so bad that there r no fish, no eel, no crab, no sh*t
sabah is the only place the fish are still alive, other place are heavily affected by El Niño, La Niña (i assume u mean sabah = sipadan)

the only thing u need to know, if u r aiming for sipadan... u better be FIT or be an adv diver tongue.gif
---
if u only hv 2-3trips per year... u wont get enuf. hehehe...

Thanks for the info.

2-3 dives a year might be enough for the time i have on hand i guess. Might increase when I know more people in the diving community.

Actually I have a question that has been in my mind for quite some time.
How much do you guys spend on diving each time including accommodation and food? + equipment rental?

getting my license soon (haven't looked for a place to do it) and was thinking of going for dives every month after that. But only tioman/redang/perhentian which is worth it to go right?

Hi Guys.

Looking for a partner for OW License as most places books twin sharing rooms.
Doing it at Seamonkey in PJ with promotional rate. Only catch is we need to finish it by 31st March. Was thinking of extending another day for extra dives. so total is 4day 3 nights at Redang. Anyone interested please PM me and I shall share more details.
