Laguna Redang charge RM200 for 4 dives; RM600 for 6 dives and so on. And best part is can share the dives. laugh.gif
That's how I get RM50/dive and it's boat dives without equipments as well. The rest of the hotels along Long Beach at Redang charge the same as Redang Bay. Somehow Laguna charge less dunno why. And we know the dive center pretty well so we get free shore dives too!  tongue.gif

Phuket was not too bad. The vis was quite good when I went. Current was a bit strong and didn't see much but service was excellent (cause all matsaleh there). The corals are very much more beautiful and colourful than what we have in our local dive sites.

Yes, Laguna Redang also the cheapest of my dive so far smile.gif

Phuket/Phi-Phi/Similan/Burma area are good for end year.

Been researching... in terms of open water , NAUI is the cheapest followed by SSI and PADI being the premium..

Probably for open water, we don't really have to invest that much.. only when it's advanced level, choosing the right tutor should be more crucial..

Sorry, my opinion would be vice versa. Should invest as good as you can for OWD. Once you have good basic, you don't need to fancy much getting certified. And for advanced, its just more into some guided fun dives with skills.

Well you should get the best which IMHO is PADI. Easy access to dive centers worldwide. PADI courses will set you back around Rm1100-1600 Depensing on where you stay and who you sign up with.

NAUI still not so recognize i suppose? I do have to agree though PADI and SSI are much more popular than NAUI..

If really we were in the dive site and they specifically mention only PADI or SSI acceptable, even if you have NAUI license they will not allow you to dive?

Based on my experience, it's important and very crucial to get a good tutor when you learn the basics. This will ensure that you know what you are doing and also make the whole diving experience more enjoyable. Diving is not a cheap sport but it's fun and addictive. It can also be quite dangerous if we are not careful. So I believe it's always good to get a strict instructor.

I did 5D/4N in Anilao a few months back and stayed with Balai Resort.
When I was there, the conditions were super calm, most of our sites had almost no currents.
Lots of small stuff to see, very very colorful down there.
IMO, good place to learn for newbies. But not sure if they do certification dives there or not.

---

For you folks that have your own equipment, where and how often do you send it in for service?
I got most of my stuff new last year straight and I understand that it should be serviced every 2 years or so, but not quite sure where to send it in to.

Also, apart from the BCD and regulator, anything else needs to be serviced regularly?
How much should I expect to fork out for servicing?

You can dive everywhere because NAUI also are the certified diving organization.

It cost me about 200 for servicing in authorized dealer.

Pulau Sembilan dive is run by Quiver Dive Team... you should check out the groupon. they do offer some interesting deals once in a while...

i think they should be active at Pulau Sembilan now that the East coast is coming to an end.

Hm, but Quiver is the only dive center that operates there.
