QUOTE(kimseng @ Mar 15 2010, 02:48 PM)
all the 5 star is just an extra rating a resort gets by paying extra to PADI.
While Dive Centre vs Resort = Availability of accommodation, or island based operator.
Instructor Development Centre (IDC) is a resort/dive centre that offers instructor level courses.

as a general idea, those with 5 star ratings are usually a bit more posh... but expect to pay posh level prices as well  biggrin.gif

don't worry too much about the agency which you opt for. PADI, NAUI, SSI, SDI, BSAC, CMAS are famous international organisations. you won't go wrong with these. no dive centre will refuse you if you have a certification from the above agencies.
more importantly get the right instructor  smile.gif

Got it. By other means, search for non 5 star rating for bargain price? Any recommendation?

depends on where you want to go or what you want to do?
i can give you recommendations based on my personal experiences only.

I want to take Open water course either at Perhentian or Tioman. I can spend whole 1 week there and if possible straight to advance. Give me recommendation based on your experience and I'll do my homework on that.

Hey guys, my wallet was stolen recently and inside was my Advanced PADI Diving License. Can anyone advise me on how to go about reapplying for another card?

Yes, you can directly contact Padi Australia. If you need their Certification Division Coordinator email, PM me.

Anyway, the price are not the same for both island and different operator. Depend on what you need and I would say you get what you paid.

Tq putraskyline. But i saw many promote phentian. Why ar?last time went both for snorkel i think prefer redang hehe
*
Ermm...why ar? Haha...I think most resort in Redang offer good snorkeling packages and cater more for family and relaxing trips on the Island while Perhentian have more smaller resort with reputable Dive centre. Btw, I made my Padi certification with Quiver until Rescue and entry level for technical diving with BnJ Tioman.

You mean private course or you want to travel solo? If you travel solo, mostly they will combine with others.

I have fabulous dive with Aquamarine Diving Bali on their 10 days safaris. Their service really superb, but I want to know is there any M'sia dive centre offering premium service?

Definition of "Premium" : Everything they do it for you including cleaning your equipment after each dive. What I do is only jump.

^Berjaya resort in Redang.
Everything they do for you. They give you each a water bottle and an apple for each dive.
They even washed, dried and packed my dive gears into my bag when we dived on the last day as we had to bath before checking out at noon.

But then again, we were the only two divers during those few days so we had extremely good VIP treatment. Whole fishing boat was ours. During inter-dive breaks, just lay on the deck and suntan, very nice. tongue.gif I don't know if it's during peak seasons though. Their per dive prices isn't that expensive either.
*
Thats great. I'm planning another diving session on May either Redang or Tioman. Lurking for exceptional service Dive Centre before I book an accommodation. Do you book Berjaya Redang online?

Another question : Do you know any other great dive centre at least you dont have to set up equipment and carry the whole things into the boat?

Didn't manage to see Mola-Mola because its not their season. But around Nusa Penida, I spotted many boat-sized manta.

two thumbs up for diving! cant wait for my next trip..dont know when..so hard to plan ahead this half of year.

i would say most dive centres wont assemble your eqpmt, at most they will load the tanks on the boat.  IMO its better that way cos we get to really check our own eqpmt esp if its the rental ones.

the dive centres operating out of KK -TARP would be pretty OK if u looking for full service, just hop on boat, then lunch at the island. try Sabah Divers, Scubs Zone, or Diverse Borneo.
*
But I prefer they assemble and what I have to do is only checked everything is fine. tongue.gif

I want to get a pair of fins. What brand and model do you guys recommend? Open heel preffered but not priority. And if possible name the shop selling them and the price. Thanks  smile.gif

I believed fins are depend on individual preference. Last month, before I dive at Bali I'm doing a research on type of fins that are good control and maneuverability. After read up review on forum and some articles end up with Scubapro Seawing Nova and my friend with Mares X-Stream. Both of us are upgrade from Mares Superchannel and Mares Quattro. Both of new fins are great and I would say its stress free. I could feel different from the upgrade especially on speed after 1 full cycle but frog kick feel a bit weird haha...Seawing at RM650 after 15% (Sealantis) and X-Stream RM510 30%(Scuba Dynamics).

Alright will put those into consideration. Thanks. Does sealantis only sell scubapro fins?
The key point here is to find a fin that is all rounder/efficient for me but i prefer open heel without bootie. Strong legs or not when you have to swim faster without efficiency i think thats when more air is consumed.
*
Sealantis are only authorized distributor for Scubapro so mostly they sell Scubapro product. I think for fins, the shop at Bukit Jalil has wide variety of fins with friendly sales people.

I have to agree on its quite good when doing course but hell no when I pay them for a leisure dive.
