talking about events: it is harbourside festival in bristol this weekend, went there for the whole afternoon and ate plenty of food (ratatouille taste good) and hot air balloon festival coming up soon sometime in mid-august.

Damn, I miss the green parks in London...

i can't wait to go back malaysia, UK sux boring like hell.

Dear all,

I'm going to work at Wimbledon, London soon next year for 1 year. What is the cost of living over there? Accommodation is provided by my company (not sure what type, mostly is service apartment, I think...) and I also got 40 pound per day (end up 1,200 per month) as my expenses allowance.

Is 40 pound enough for the two of us over there (I will bring my wife too but she is not allow to work)?

A friend of mine had once told me (few years ago or was it last year, jayhan?) that if its over £1000 per month, one is able to live a comfortable life even in London.
I kinda forgot if he did told me that or was it another person, but that was told to me before all these global price hike

yeha agree with that...1000 pounds per month is more than enuf for a basic living..but it depends on individual..everyone spending habits are different le... i have fren who earn 1500 per month..but still not enuf...coz he is heavy drinker and heavy smoker..everynight can spend up to 70 pounds on drinks only...

satay house? tried it before i came back, its near hilton in edgeware rd station. its a little obscure place but i was told its been there for ages....

btw, plane ticket isnt that expensive right? if you get it at a good time you can catch it for about 5-600 pounds?

Haha, I spend a lot of time and money hunting for food around in London because there are quite a lot of good food here. For Lochfyne, I initially intend to go there this week with my friends but one of them doesn't take seafood so we're trying out a Mongolian BBQ in Angel. If you're in London, give me a buzz and we can try the Loch Fyne seafood platter!!

You guys are staying in quite central area =__= I'm at north yorkshire, scarborough. Speaking about seafood, Ahem....... We've got one of the best Fish & Chips here........If not, some local produced like woodpigeon, etc......and a michelin starred restaurant that doesnt burn a hole in your pocket

I think the seafood should cost about £25 minimum. I would suggest going for satay house as the seafood could turn people off and I didn't think the environment would be suitable to be noisy as well

Besides, I think Satay House is halal?

think satay house is, coz i saw a malay guy as the chef there when i was there. i can check with my friend.

If the Berkeley Square you are talking about is the same one I have in mind, it's quite an uptown and posh location.

You might want to stay off places like Southeast, e.g. Peckham but as long as you stay sensible, London ain't such a dangerous place.

What sort of advise are you looking for? If you have not got someone to show you around London, give me a buzz when you're here

I don't really know as I haven't really been traveling a a lot inside UK.
If you like very 'English' places, Bath would be a good place to go. If you're more into scenery, I heard Lake district is nice, Cornwall is not bad too ( but it's relatively less convenient to get there ).

Not sure about the prices though.

Agreed above. In fact, every small town in England is scenic. Lake district is aced, I had just spent my weekend over there in Windermere, one of the largest natural lake in England. Lots to do there, however, it could be a little expensive in terms of accomodation. Cornwall is a posh place, for posh OAPs. ha...... Bath's another good one, I used to spend my summer holidays there. Further downsouth, towards the west, you could think about poole, dorset where it has spectacular seascape & sunset (the renowed lulworth cove & durdle door), etc.......If you're thinking about Scotland, you better go far up north, toIsle of Skye, Shetland, or the highlands on mainland like Inverness.

not sure about air fare. roughly 4-5k return? it depends on where you want to go. I would advise you to make a stop in one of the cities and travel around europe much cheaper and more things to see

1 week travel around UK? you must be kidding me... the travel time from london to cambridge is about 1 hour via train some more.. and there's so many place in uk for tourist.... walk around london also need 2 days to cover most of the place like london eye, london bridge etc..
1 week it's bit impossible, 2 weeks probably enough but it's bit tired.. 3 weeks will be prefect..

i think you need around 4-5k for air-ticket, accommodation probably 2k, food will be cheaper probably 1k for week...

oh btw, mas fare is quite cheap nowadays, only £470 for return... last 3 weeks it's more cheap le, £430 return... haiz... i only can see, cannot buy...

besides, if you include all charges, like luggage fees, this and that, it maybe will close to others airlines... probably less a little bit.. i willing pay a little more for a more comfortable flight (and a secure flight hehehe..) 13 hours in the flight, it's a nightmare if u are not happy with the flight...

anyways i am back in Malaysia for a few months. its been long since i posted on this thread.

Emirates can be quite cheap sometimes. i bought my ticket like 2 weeks before departure and it only costs 450 pounds return. not too bad for a last minute booking. the last time i booked MAS or other airlines last minute it costs like 600-700 pounds

I prefer 777 which is the large comfy aeroplane. The Emirates Airbus caused me backache because the chair was so hard and sharp or maybe it was just my seat that was weird i have no idea, but 777 rocks! =)

I was there last weekend and the prices are reasonably cheap compared to Restaurants like Satay House or Kiasu etc
etc.
For example 1 pc Roti Canai is 2.50 instead of a bombing 4.50 in Satay House.

The food tastes delicious not awesome but delicious enough to make you feel like you're back in Malaysia.
